Small shop right on the mall being hit hard by people looking for ice cream. One guy behind the counter but he was super efficient. Small seating area out front. We were here on Saturday 9.20.25. I am not the hugest fan of ice cream. I get it out maybe 1-2 times a year if that. I had a big chocolate craving (as per the usual) so I ordered two scoops of Death By Chocolate in a waffle cone. Has anyone ever given a bad review to an ice cream shop???? Don't count on me to give one now. There are 48 flavors of hand dipped ice cream plus sundaes and soft serve in this small shop within a small strip mall on Washington Street. No, we didn't try every single one, although we would have loveeeeed too, but there were quite a few that were intriguing. We sampled a few flavors before settling on a scoop of the Blueberry & Cream and Black Raspberry Blast on a sugar cone. Not sure if it was 5 star ice cream, although I'm sure our kids would say so, but it was good ice cream. Fruity, flavorful and refreshing. On a warm summer day, it's just what the doctor ordered. We did have one observation though on our day there - the 2 gentlemen working behind the counter didn't seem like the most enthusiastic ice cream shop employees ever, not to say you need to be, but they were quite stoic in handing out ice cream to happy customers. I give it four stars, my husband gives it 5. Can't give 4.5 so 5 it is! I thought their moose tracks was great! We both did. You could tell there weren't a bunch of additives etc. it was very melty. We had some other ice creams in town as well and they just weren't this "real". It's a cute little place in the alley. The guys weren't rude but weren't necessarily as friendly as some of the other shops. That's why I wanted to give 4. I've been to Washington Street many times and never stopped by for Icecream here. My experienced friend recommended the homemade waffle cone/ if u get two scoops you get to try two flavors. This Icecream was huge as it should be for 9$. I opted for monster cookie and s'mores. Monster cookie was a vanilla type base that seemed to have a lot of peanut butter stuff. I normally don't like peanut butter in Icecream but this was really good. The s'mores was delicious and I enjoyed the chocolate pieces. This Icecream is smooth, thick, creamy, dense and has a great mouth feel. I recommend Uncle Charlie's. Enjoy in season, I believe this place is closed off season. My friends and I had a terrible experience here. We waited almost 20 minutes while the employee continued serving other customers and never acknowledged us. We weren't sure whether there was a line or if we were supposed to order at the register, so we politely asked. Instead of answering our question, he gave a dismissive response and then had another employee serve us. While we were being served, that same employee came around and said, "Get out of my store" in front of all of us. We were shocked and confused because the comment appeared to be directed at us. What made this experience especially upsetting was that we watched other customers get served while we were ignored. As a group of people of color, the way we were treated made us feel singled out and unwelcome. Whether intentional or not, the employee's behavior was rude, hostile, and completely unprofessional. Didn't love however that there was a customer directed line that some other customers and the ice cream scoopers didn't exactly follow so I got cut off twice. I gave my Uncle Charley a Charley Horse. It was the least I could do. You don't want to know what the most I could do would be. I'm not really a fan. The line was too long in season and when I was in Cape May off-season they only had three freezer-hardened flavors left. Pretty expensive. I tried a couple of them and neither one was particularly good. She told me that all the best flavours are available in the summer and that's why they sold out sooner. Funny that they keep the ice cream shop open into Fall just to sell the batches they already made, even when they're not fresh at all, but without making more batches of the popular stuff. These ones they were selling at normal high prices did not taste fresh at all. Leftovers from quite a while ago I think. So I can't give them a 3 because of this business practice. We wanted to get ice cream after our delicious dinner at Taco Caballito Tequileria and our waitress recommended we head over to the Washington Mall for Uncle Charley's Ice Cream. We miraculously found easy parking and headed over to the little alley in chi Uncle Charley's is located. Despite the sign on the outside to the store which says "we serve one family at a time, all other please wait outside" - it was clear there were many unrelated families inside the ice cream store, not socially distanced, ordering their ice cream cones. It didn't feel safe frankly for us to go in (although we did - and tried to get three ice creams for the kids as quickly as possible). The ice cream was very good, but the lack of COVID safety at Uncle Charley's made the experience much less sweet. read more

My friend and I decided to head down to Cape May to see the sunset and witness some cool shooting stars at night. My trip could not be completed without visiting an ice cream shop in lovely Cape May, ice cream is always a MUST for me. This was the first time I tried Uncle Charley's and I'm happy I did. Although parking could be a little tough sometimes, the yummy ice cream makes it worth it lol. This was during the week of Labor Day when we went, they were only taking 1-2 families at a time I believe, so it took a little longer to get to our ice cream. I got my usual chocolate and strawberry and sweet mother of hazelnuts! It was delicious! The strawberry taste was amazing and the chocolate flavor is making me want to drive down again at this very moment just to get a scoop lol. I got Java Chip and Black Raspberry Blast (basically black raspberry with chocolate chunks in it). The ice cream was a bit soft, so you have to eat it relatively quickly. A party of four ordering different ice creams will run just over $20 for good quality ice cream. First visit was not crowded, good spacing for Covid, etc. Second visit was a bit more chaotic, with a long line, but they moved through it fast and for the most part, patrons we're adhering to the mask rules & spacing. Tried this place in Cape May as it had the longest line (compared to Kohr's and Ben and Jerry's) and was homemade with 48 supposed hand dipped flavors. The line moved very quickly and they had a lot of servers behind the counter which was great. I ordered the Java Chip and Vanilla Peanut Butter in a waffle cone. The java chip was nothing special but the vanilla peanut butter was GREAT. HIGHLY recommend. Disappointed though because of the price ($8!) and the fact the server gave me a waffle cone with 2 significant cracks.
