The Rutherford school has two studios, a small -- but well-loved -- living room-esque waiting area for parents, and a changing room for students. The no-frills annual concert allows students at all levels to show their families what they've learned in class, and everyone gets to take a bow. With big names like Ben Stiller, Edie Falco and Jennifer Jason Leigh, you'd think that it'd be a slam dunk. Sadly, that was not the case. It was one of those performances where I was screaming internally, "OMG THIS SUCKS!!!" and was afraid I may actually stand up and burst those exact words out. My brother and sister in law never come out with us. They actually did that night and I felt really bad. Halfway through the performance, I looked over and my sister in law had fallen asleep on my brother's shoulder. My brother had that glazed over stare that just screamed, "Is this over yet???" I am a huge fan of Ben Stiller's movies, but this live performance was such a huge disappointment. If not for the big names, this play would have been shut down after a week. I not only want my money back, but I want those two hours of my life back.

Ben Stiller is great with his show tunes and side comments. He really draws you into this character of Artie. Jennifer J Leigh is also awesome with her looney character of Bunny, who is all over the place and really brings the punch lines. I am glad to have seen this performance with these powerful actors, it really is an experience of what broadway shows should be. I also loved that the theater was intimate and the set was such that it gave the actors and the audience a feel that we were all in this together.
