The Elefante music repair shop promises 24h response time to give a quote. I have an instrument that needed an urgent evaluation with a few days. I have dropped my instrument for evaluation/repair on Monday, I didn't get a response in Tuesday, and I called again wedn and was told I will get a phone call on the same day. Still didn't happen. On Thursday morning, called again and was told they will call back on the same day, and still didn't happen. The front desk again told me they will call me on Friday. When I asked how I can believe him when I have been lied to three times, he said he wasn't sure if they will be able to call me on Friday. Elefante has failed their promise to customers three times in a row, and I feel the company is just telling lies in order to get the customers to hang up, rather than to help solve their problems. To follow up, on Friday Elefante called me in the morning and informed me their technician was not available in the past days. They apologized and had my instrument inspected right away. I am appreciative of this communication at last. However, please be aware that some instrument may incur delays depending on their technician's availabilities. This is why I am revising to 3 stars now from 1 star before. read more

Such a heartless business. Their summer camps are WAY out of my price range so even though they advertise in my kids' school (is that legal?) they weren't on my radar. However, they provided rental instruments for said school so I had to sign a rental agreement wtih them if I wanted my daughter to play (we didn't and don't have the cash for a new violin). When the pandemic hit, we had a particularly difficult time and the violin sat forgotten in the front hall under the kids' unused backpacks and lunchboxes. We just had a lot going on, our household being multi-generational and everyone's stress going in every direction. I got a notice that Elefante was going to send my account to collections and I BEGGED them not to do this. I emailed, I called, I said we were in financial difficulty, I asked for either more time or some kind of help, and they just ignored me. Finally I was able to return it and they HAD sent it to collections. I said "Can't we come up with some kind of payment?" and the guy behind the counter had this mean little smirk on his face and was like "you are free to make any arrange ments you want with the collection agency." He also told me they had a policy of picking up instruments from people who couldn't get to the store. I felt like Adam Sandler: "Once again, information that would have been very helpful TWO MONTHS AGO!!!!" (from what I can tell this was a total lie.) I just think there have to be better places for the public schools to use for arrangements like this. Taking advantage of pandemic to fill their coffers with late fees seems completely heartless and not a little predatory. Only deal with them if you're a billionaire with a monocle and a man-servant who can drive the town car over to pick up your rented Stradivarius. read more

I signed up my daughter for lessons for 2 months (8 sessions). The lesson was for 30 minutes but she was always done 5-6 min early. When it's only 30 min long that's a big difference. When I mentioned it, my daughter noticed that her teacher's attitude changed. Now she doesn't want to go anymore. read more

My kids have done many of performing arts classes & camps at Elefante and they have all been fantastic. They love it there. The performances are always impressive, and the staff is friendly and very qualified. I find the prices to be perfectly reasonable if not on the low end compared to other programs. We have also rented instruments from them with no issues. Great company...can't wait to see what they offer next season. read more

I could only comment on the materials they sell at this store. Very knowledgable and friendly service. Has a homey feel as if you're visiting your friend's family. I might look into music lessons there for my children. read more

My daughter plays the violin at school and the flute for her school band. Her flute needed repair. We dropped off the flute that evening and Elefante gave us a free estimate and very reasonable repair cost the very next day. Customer service was pleasant and answered all our questions. We bought an extra shoulder rest to show our appreciation. read more

I could not be more unhappy with this business. We have rented and purchased instruments from elefante for 10 years. This past year the schools closed and the rental instrument for my youngest could not be returned to the elementary school. We got an email saying to return it during their limited hours (no evenings) at their store no where near our home. We called and explained we were both healthcare workers and did not get out of work before 3pm (when they close) and they are a distance from our home. They said not to worry about it and to get it to them when we could. They sent us to collections! No letter, no email, no phone call warning us that what they told us by phone was not true. I am so disappointed in this establishment. read more

This is one of the nicest businesses run by the nicest family. I have both taken classes, gotten music supplies for multiple instruments, repairs, and have worked at Elefante Music in the past and I most certainly really appreciate and value the people there. They are extremely fair in pricing, if not giving you a complete bargain, and when you bring your family to the store, it's really like you're joining their family too. read more

They close early and randomly, make sure to call before making the trip. usually friendly but last time I called, the employee was very condescending and unhelpful. so now I use another music center where they are open during posted hours and where customers are appreciated. Also my son hated the guitar lessons there which he felt were really boring. read more

Caution - they try to bill you more. I started my lease in May for four months, they were supposed to contact me in Sep to let me know about the new lease. But want I got in mail was a past due notice in Oct automatically enroll me to the monthly plan. When I called, I was told to give a credit card for a monthly $24.50 payment. I knew there were cheaper semester long commitment and bang, the lady on the phone said she was doing me a favor to let me enroll in that plan?! (which is only $12 for 10 months). If I had other options I would never go with them. Mindful how they try to trick you and rip you off. read more

I am so happy I sent my son to Elefante music school to take piano and clarinet lessons. Not only did my son enjoy his instructors, but he learned to love music and was motivated to be a better student. The teaching environment was positive, nurturing and motivating. I have nothing against the public schools music program, but taking lessons at Elefante gave my son an advantage that the public school could not do. Thanks to Elefante, my son has played with the NJYSO, Regional Band, enjoys writing and arranging, and is currently the music director for a local school musical. Not bad for a high school freshman. read more

Unfortunately, this was the lowest review that yelp would allow. Please drive a few extra miles to more reputable businesses. I tried to have my son's instrument repaired here. As promised, they did call me with an estimate telling me the cost to repair the instrument, however, I was wise enough to get two other opinions from their competitors. Not only was Elefante dishonest by saying that the instrument needed a lot of work done, but their estimate was 9 times the price that I paid. I ended up paying $60 to repair an instrument that they acted like they were doing me a favor working on for $550. It is disheartening that most of the schools in the area recommend this place. I called them to complain, and I was promised a call back from the owner, but I was completely ignored. Maybe this review will get their attention. They actually attempted to place the fault onto me claiming I must have misunderstood the quote. A.N. put it best in their review, because I felt that they were very condescending and unhelpful as well when they replied to me in this fashion. In addition, I have their technician on my voice mail stating how much the repair would cost and what needed to be done to the instrument. I would happily play it for them if they ever returned a phone call. This is no way to do business. Do yourself a favor. If you must go there, get a second and third opinion elsewhere. I hope you can prove me wrong, and they clean up their act. read more
