Easily the best authentic Chinese restaurant in Bloomington. The inside is spacious and has some roundtables for bigger parties. The server was quick to take our order and the food came out at a reasonable time. Food: The sweet and sour pork is so crispy and the sauce is well balanced. Normally, restaurants skimp out on the meat to make it crispier, but not here. I also really liked the fish stew. The fish was tender and the soup was a good combo of sour with a numbing spice sensation. I've also had the peking duck here, no picture, and it is great. Uncle Wangs Alley is easily one of the best options for Chinese food in Bloomington- especially if you're looking for Cantonese-style dishes. The food here is consistently excellent. Everything I've tried has been flavourful, well-prepared, and feels much closer to what you'd expect from more authentic Cantonese cooking compared to a lot of other spots in town. Another amazing delivery dinner from Uncle Wangs Alley! Everything was spectacular. We had a dinner of mostly appetizers plus fried rice for a celebratory dinner at home. One of the things that I absolutely love is how well the food is packed. So many places pack it up so that the bottom of the bag is soggy with sauce or grease. Uncle Wangs wraps cling film around anything with liquid, and it really means a lot to me. It's like they were thinking "What would I expect if I were the customer?" when they wrap it up. The third chinese restaurant we visited in Bloomingtoon. It is quite a roomy place. It is a typical chinese restaurant where you see mrnu with a picture on the wall. We ordered sliced pork belly with garlic sauce. Very nice presentation.The pork belly tastes dry, and the raw garlic is very strong in the sauce. It is good but not as good as the one we had before. Sweet and sour pork is ok. The pork is crispy, and the red sauce is good. It is just that the pork might need better seasoning. The stir fry cabbage with chili was recommended because they ran out string bean, but it is not good. Not much taste. Sichuan pepper fish stew is yummy. It has mung bean noodle, bean sprout. Overall, it was ok dinner. Pricewise it is similar to other chinese restaurants. I can say it is not cheap. I believe there is an extra charge for credit card transactions. read more

We arrived just after 5 & were only the 2nd table occupied. Over the next 40 minutes 5 additional tables filled up. We ordered the green beans to start. They are fantastic w/ mushrooms, ground beef, chilis & sone other yummy spices. I love green beans & these are a 5 out of 5. We order the sweet & sour pork as well as the eggplant w/ garlic sauce. The pork was thinly sliced w/ the breading being just right. The sauce is very tasty & the presentation is excellent. 5 out of 5 The eggplant dish is to die for. There are two menus here. Ask for both. Tonight we had the House Tofu, dry chili green beans, and sesame noodles. All three were excellent and we had to take half of it home-- the portions are huge. The Tofu was Szechuan style, onions, green peppers, and some great wedges of dusted tofu. Delicious! Of many Chinese dine-in restaurants, Uncle Wang's is unpretentious, has great service, and is reasonably priced. It leans towards the spicier Szechuan and Hunanese versions of Chinese offerings, but also has really good Chinese American standards if this is your style. You don't hear the English language here much, an indication of its popularity with international students from China and SE Asia. Really good and earns its five stars, a rare rating for me. Never had chinese food like this before. The dish that really blew my mind was the spicy fish-I think there was a lot of szechuan pepper in the broth 'cause I never knew your tongue could be numb like that in a very different and odd sort of way. The fish was excellent, probably something simple like a tilapia or some other white fish, but done very well. Next came the shredded potato and garlic dish. Very garlicky, potatoes were ok but this was not part of the hit parade. The eggplant was absolutely delicious, a great tangy sauce, lots of garlic and chiles and the right amount of heat. Finally, the other star of the show was the fried oysters. Hot an crispy, nicely spiced with slices of green chiles and cilantro on top. Again, I have to say I've never had chinese food like this before. This is a hole in the wall but well worth it. The portions are also super generous, and served family style, the four dishes were just about as much as we could eat-we took a bit home in the end. Not everything came out at once and we did I'm get egg drop soup to start which was also great. Service was normal for a hole in the wall. Try it, you won't be disappointed. read more

I would like to suggest that the menu be updated for the tofu and mixed vegetables. I cannot eat spicy food, and the menu did not indicate this dish is spicy, so I was very disappointed to open my take out and see it was full of spicy little flakes of hot red peppers and even big chunks of them. If I had seen on the menu this was a spicy dish, I would have ordered something else! read more

The service here was amazing. We were greeted right away and brought soup and chips immediately. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful the entire time. Mapo tofu was peppercorn heavy which I prefer in this dish. Ground pork within gave good textural accent. Spice level good and not overly oily which can be case with this dish. The cabbage stole the show. Very light sauce with crunchy cabbage mixed with peppercorn, chili peppers and green peppers stir fried then served in bowl over open flame to continue heating up and flavoring dish through meal. I wished I could give this restaurant zero star. Management was very rude to employees. Owner was yelling to the waiter at our presence because of the mixup in our order and we refused to accept the wrong food. Food is nothing authentic about. $18.95 for a "Fried Squid with garlic sauce" with only tentacles in it is a crime. We don't pay $20 for eating tentacles squid at a restaurant. There are dishes on the menu but you can't order it because they don't offer it at present. It's not a nice peaceful atmosphere for a night out. We're not coming back wasting our money to support a mean employer. This is not China. You can't treat your employees as such degrading. read more

3 friends & I dined here for the first time on 01/23/25. We pre-ordered the Peking Duck. The food was terrific, but the highlight of our visit was our server. This young woman not only took care of the numerous table guests but also handled the brisk carry-out business. She was friendly & informative & never showed the least bit of frustration with trying to keep all guests happy. I'd never had Peking Duck, but my friends were thrilled with the dish. Our server pointed out some new ways to enjoy it (sugar!), which even my friends found of great interest. So I got mapo 麻婆豆腐 tofu, and it was very very tasty but definitely very 麻 like it literally numbed my mouth and looking at the reviews it seems like a Sichuan restaurant so that makes sense. I kind of wanted to give 3 and 1/2 stars because there were only two waiters and the food took like AN HOUR to get to our table, the restaurant seemed a little understaffed so maybe it was a one time thing but I don't know. I had dinner with my friends here. We ordered three dishes, and yes, they tasted very good until I found this thing from the beef hot pot. When we almost finished eating, I chewed something very hard, and I even thought it was my tooth since it hurt. I spit out and tried to figure out what that was. It was small, black, and very hard. It was obviously a plastic part from their appliance or something, not the food ingredient. The server went inside the kitchen with the part and the dish, and they offered a dessert, which we refused. We wanted them to take our dish out, but the chef insisted and said no. He did not come out and check, and he did not apologize. What if we already swallowed microplastics and our teeth just missed other ones? What if I hurt my teeth? I wanted that black plastic back, but the server told me he had already thrown it somewhere right after seeing the piece and said it's a PEPPER. Does it really look like a pepper? He was yelling and shouting the whole time until we left the store. He mistreated the serving girl, too. This was what one of my Chinese friends understood while we were there: "I am not going to return the money for this dish, that is ridiculous and just unreasonable. If they want to find the piece of thing again, ask them to come find it themselves. I don't want them to come to the restaurant again. Remember their face and don't let them come again" Why couldn't he just admit and apologize? I am not going back to the restaurant, I feel sorry for the server, too. This is our new favorite Chinese restaurant in Bloomington. I especially love their Hunan chicken.

Food was amazing, Mapo Tofu & garlic eggplant were delicious. Need to hire more front of house staff, server was overwhelmed with customers.

Son and I went in for lunch on 1/5. Beautiful on inside in my opinion. Ordered rangoon, tso chicken, sweet and sour crispy pork, and house fried rice. Then the complimentary egg drop soup with fried wonton skins came, oh so good and a great start. I am not a huge rangoon fan as son is, but these were the best I have ever tasted! The crispy pork was the star today, just the right balance of sweet/sour, and fried and breaded great. nothing but delicious meat and sauce (no veggies) in this dish. The Tsos was very flavorful and has its kick at the back of the bite. Fried rice good but I am a fried rice junkie and have other places where i enjoy more. Love this place, I always order vermicelli noodles with pork and I love it everytime. Not sure about the rest of their menu but it has a nice interior and the staff is always friendly. Definitely stop in if youre nearby and in the mood for Chinese!!! read more
