Have you ever watched a Hallmark channel movie and saw those cute coffee shops and say to yourself "Gosh I want to be there" well here you are...I found it. We did get lost and I had to call for directions because you can't really see it from the street and the sign isn't that big. It's on the second floor but the entrance door is on the first so you have to walk up some stairs, When you walk in it is such a mellow vibe in there. There were a few people in there studying or reading a book. The walls are FULL of books every type of book you can imagine they have. There is a TV where and some couches where you can just sit and sip on your coffee. There is an outside balcony which has lights and on a nice cool night its a great area to sit and enjoy. We each ordered a coffee and the only issue I had I like my coffee really hot and it was luke-warm. The ice coffee was good because my kids did not complain about it. read more

This place is definitely not for me. It is dirty and very run down. You walk up dirty carpeted steps to get to the second floor establishment. All the flavored drinks are made with syrups. I had a tea and they did scoop the tea leaves out of a jar and put in a bag and stapled it closed. The drinks are one size only and are very large. It was very quiet on the Saturday afternoon we visited. They had no music playing, and it felt like a library. There were a few people on laptops playing video games. There is old worn dirty furniture to sit on. It looks like furniture from a dirty college party house. There is a balcony you can sit on with a view of the parking lot. They advertise that they have bands and comedy nights. With some updating, it could be a really cool place. read more

I just had the drip coffee and it was phenomenal! They have a TV that you can watch movies and different channels which I loved! Must have closed the business, as of April 2025, based on fact I called two days in a row, today being a Friday at 4pm so prime time, and no one answers phone and voicemail says, "Sorry, mailbox is full." Unfortunately, it's hard to make a living owning an independent coffee house. Another one in a cool location did okay during the peak of post pandemic discretionary spending, but as inflation hit and spending declined, it too closed about a year ago. read more

Uhmmm can we talk about what a hidden little gem this place is !!!! Stumbled by this random door that said unground coffee. I'm a sucker for unique coffee shops but this one was on another level. You open the door and you're greeted with funky carpet and walls painted heading up to the next door. You enter the second door and you're overwhelmed with the coolest setup. It's like a cozy living room with books and couches and little nooks to just hang out in. They have a unique coffee menu that you can do iced or hot coffees. I had the banana split over ice and my sister in law had the peanut butter and jelly (hot). It was delicious ! Kevin was super sweet and he's been friends with the owner for awhile and was telling us more about how great this hidden hideaway is ! Nice ambience. Unique with like a Grandma's living home mixed with a old swap shop flow to it. Has a raggedy coolness to it. They play movies at the front where there are a few old-school sofas. Great little spot for boardgames and has a nice patio outside. I'd like to comment on the food menu, but unfortunately they have a $10minimum for cards...but their menu is made out of items pretty much from 2.50-5 bucks and the higher end is really not something you need for one or two people. So, I'd have to buy something for two to four people just to pay with my card at a coffee spot, which doesn't make sense, because you likely are just going to grab a drink and hang for an hour or two... Lastly, it seemed like the worker was kinda worn out from some people trying to bring food in the place too, so she was kinda short with me. Okay, so I feel like at first glance you come into this place and immediately want to say, "not today, Satan" to whoever brought you here, however, give it a chance and you'll see that behind all that, well, stuff, is a great cafe with some really great coffee. Picture it: a 90's dorm room. Your nana's kitchen. A garage sale. They all got together and formed a business. That's what the inside of this place looks like. Old couches. Used books to read. It's like Central Perk if Central Perk sat dormant for ten years. But while it's garage-sale chic, it's definitely charming. It makes you feel at home if you don't mind that type of atmosphere. It's doesn't give a crap what you think of it, and that's what really makes me love this place. So we sat at their bar area as my friend and I were doing some work. She went to order some coffees for us. Note: there is a minimum for credit cards which is around $8-$10. I ordered an iced latte with almond milk and she ordered their peanut butter coffee. She kept telling me I had to try it. Literally you guys, it's coffee with a huge hunk of peanut butter inside which you swirl around. Completely makes me believe in heaven it's that good. My latte was amazing. I couldn't tell if it was the coffee or the milk that I loved so much, but they both blended so nicely together. I could have chugged it, but I'm not greedy and I assumed refills were not free. It's quiet inside which I also loved so we got so much done while we enjoyed our coffees immensely. Listen, if you're a Starbucks only person, this isn't for you. Can you open your mind to try something new that might put you out of your comfort zone? If so, give it a shot. They serve food but nothing super filling - tater tots, pop tarts, ramen cups, etc. Their coffee and tea drinks are great, and there's always tables with plugs available. Cozy, home-y feeling. Just like an evening at your grandparents' house, or at least what I feel it would be like if you had grandparents. Sure, the furniture is worn, and knickknacks adorn the space at nearly every surface you see. However, I appreciate this unique spot for its welcoming atmosphere in what seems like a never-ending sea of expensive, superficial hives for likeminded people. I can't say much about the coffee - it's basic. It does the job. Then again, all I had was a latte, so I can't speak much for the creativity and dimensional complexity of other offerings. The older gentleman that attends gives a stern impression at first. Perhaps he is just a seasoned service industry worker, but I get the impression he is opinionated and confident about who he is. Being here reading my book and seeing other people interact with him led me to see beyond my initial judgement. He held conversations, laughed, smiled and shared opinions about pop culture references his customers made. Just an average, experienced older fella offering a safe space for people. All in all, I would recommend this place to a wandering traveler like myself. Definitely refreshing amidst the sea of "luxury" and consumerism in the area. read more

There is really no other word to describe undergounds coffeehaus but gross. The entry way of dirty carpeted stairs ascending you up to the coffee house is your first clue. They look like they have been there since the dawn of time and never cleaned. Signs on the door stating no "illegal substances allowed we R watching you" clue you about the demographic attracted here. You walk in and just see STUFF everywhere. The entire place is cluttered and is anxiety enducing. I also saw several people obviously burnt out and zonked out on the couch. I ordered a latte and asked if they had almond milk in which she replied only soy milk. Ok nbd. I still had hopes this place could turn out a solid coffee. We settled into a nook area and it was oddly religious. Several pictures of Jesus and one of the last supper. As we were waiting for our drinks we overheard conversations of patrons sharing their best places to sleep overnight in their car to avoid stabbings/robberies/police. Usually I get headaches due to lack of caffeine but this drink brought a headache on. Truthfully with one sip I wanted to spit my latte out. It was cold and basically the weakest coffee drink I have ever experienced. Drip coffee from a diner that has been sitting all day is better. I violated one of my cardinal sins and did not finish this drink. All in the Jesus nook. Oh LORD! This hidden gem was surely quite the find. A few days ago my wife decided she needed a reading spot. Something unique and maybe bohemian. Maybe resembling the Friends central perk cafe where you actually want to chill inside. So I decided, what the heck. Google is my best friend. Thanks to Google I found this peculiar little spot. The inside gives you the vibe of bohemian punk and comfort of someone's home, without it being someone's actual home. Most of the furniture was mismatched with gave it a very authentic feel to it. They had a TV playing old school cartoons which surely entertained me while my wife was reading. Had lights you were able to turn on and off to accommodate what you were doing. As a someone raised in New York City I will say, it made me homesick. We decided to have the cappuccinos and an order of the cheese tater tots. Yes, weird mix but our stomachs are tanks. The cappuccinos were foamy and smooth enough with or without sugar. Huge cups that gave you the feeling that you just needed a blanket and cuddle up in one of their many couches to feel a wholesome vibe. The tots were awesome and not at all greasy--a huge concerns for us when it comes to tots--or soggy. The service was chill and straight to the point. Still friendly and since it's a chill spot, only one barista was there. He was all that was necessary. Overall, we will be coming back many many times and recommend that you check it out if you're in the area. Maybe even if you aren't, I mean we drove an hour from Miami for it so maybe you can too right? read more

THIS PLACE IS FILTHY!!!! There is hair and dust everywhere and no sign of a clean AC vent or open window anywhere to ventilate the stale cigarette and moth smell. It smells like cat litter and looks like it needs to be featured in the show Hoarders. I ordered a coffee and sat in the only wooden chair in a corner (all the couches scream bugs) to drink my latte but couldn't stomach sitting in this place or drinking coffee from somewhere this filthy. The crowd this place invites is pretty sketchy. To top it off, the guy at the counter was "not taking orders" and not helpful at all. I almost asked him why they're still open it he's not taking orders. Luckily, there was a nicer gentlemen who was picking up his shift. Didn't drink my coffee, gave it back to the barista and had him toss it after sitting in the Jesus shrine for 20 min looking for a different coffee house to do my work. Underground Coffeehaus is full of goofy, geeky, semi-hippie, tattooed wannabe bikers, quasi intellectuals and other stereotypcials, which if one may insist might by image include me as being a shoulder length appearing left over from the 60's long hair. You'll find just about every species of human kind here at any hour of the day with the possible exception of a Republican or right wing conservative that are more than likely up the road having a love fest at a local Chick-fil-A. Underground Coffeehaus (phonetic German?) is a place loaded with books, games, some drums, a few weirdo what not trinket type of thingies and of course various coffees, waffles, tatter tots (5 or 7 varieties), key lime pie, cookies and other nibbles. Though it says "Underground," this underground is on the second floor with an outside balcony offering a very pleasant view of the small garden like center strip mall, which is lush with a variety of pleasing to the eye vegetation. On the funny side, I was carrying a certain barrowed ultra high tech appearing laptop well disguised in an old classical Underwood Typewriter case. Though I didn't hear any snickers when I opened the case, when my programs came up I was suddenly approached by two obvious geeks who in unison said something to the effect of "Holy freaking shit! You're using a quantum computer?" Anyway, they were only half correct, but seeing their mouths salivating, their fingers twitching to touch my keyboards and in fear that I was going to bear witness to a couple of sudden wet pant orgasms, I politely told them "yes," and "so what; it works for me" as I casually closed my phony, or what wasn't a so secretively disguised computer within a typewriter case. All in all, if you are into a coffee house scene somewhat reminiscent of the 70's East Side Village scene, this could very well be the place for you. It's certainly pleasant enough. read more

I was brought here by my friend Hilda, she loves this coffee shop and it seemed like a fun place to unwind after a big lunch. I ordered a Chai tea and she ordered a Grasshopper Latte with a couple Spicy Mexican Chocolate Snickerdoodles. We sat there chatting while watching SPACEBALLS, which was an awesome blast from the past. I have been coming to Undergrounds since 2008 when it was at its original location on Oakland Park Blvd east of Federal Hwy. It's one of the coolest hangouts you can frequent whether you're looking for coffee, tater tots, or just relax. Few "coffee houses/bars" have the type of look like Undergrounds where it feels like it's been there for decades. Undergrounds is like the secret clubhouse with its patchwork interior of cushy nooks and outdoor balcony to hangout, read a book, do work, or hang out with friends. Here, you can come as you are. Great drinks, great people, great vibe and atmosphere with no pretense or bs. It's why I still frequent the place all these years later. read more

The server/host wasn't the friendliest; this is a coffee house that sales snacks but not actual food so go there full or plan to go eat something before or after. I knew it would happen....eventually. I came to Undergrounds after the great reviews on Yelp. I had just visited another coffee house and I was SO excited about the awesome coffee (and beer!) scene up in the BPB. When I got there, it was odd. I felt the place to be....."dirty". Not that it wasn't clean but it's just so darn cluttered. The counters have a ton of things on them (most for sale), there are games scattered about, books, and other nick-nacks. This just gave a feel of disorganization...and just wasn't "comfortable" for my taste. We ordered a cappuccino and a latte. The gentlemen behind the counter seemed flustered and had a hard time putting together our order. He made various trips to the fridge to get stuff? He was also not very well put together, looking like he just rolled out of bed, and certainly not very welcoming. We grabbed our coffees after a fairly long wait (there was no one in front of us, it's just like he forgot how to make these two coffees.) They came in over size mugs - I hadn't given up hope yet. We sat outside (inside was way too cluttered to sit, enjoy a coffee and chat.) We sat, waited for it too cool a bit as we chatted about how frazzled the "barista" was and then sipped our coffee. WHOA that was disgusting. It was water with a faint hint of coffee. I have had better coffee at chain dinners where the coffee sits on a hot plate 12 hours. We litterally left the whole thing there and made an exit. Before we did the wife needed to use the little ladies room. They ask you to keep the key attached to the door knob - OUTSIDE?! WHAT?! Is that a security risk waiting to happen or what? How is it nobody knows about this place? Oh, that's right, it's dead in the center of a difficult-to-access strip mall just before the ass-end of Oakland Park Blvd, the windows are tinted dark and it's so tiny you'd think it was an extension of one of the other local shops. But sometimes the most overlooked nooks and crannies can hold the most valuable treasure. When you get into the parking lot of Undergrounds Coffeehaus you will immediately be presented with a dilemma: how to park. If it's a busy night there may only be parking at the beginning of the street, and as you mosey on down you will eventually be forced to pull a U-turn and go right back to where you started and find a spot again. Then you'll need to either park on the south side of the lot or cough up change to the meter gods, or suffer their tickety wrath. You may find what appear to be bums hanging around outside on a bench - well, they may actually be bums or they may just be regulars stepped outside to smoke or converse. But a nod's as good as a wink and in you go - into the inside of someone's cramped apartment stuffed full of wondrous goodies, art, toys, food and friends. (Heh, if only my apartment was this hip!) Lining the walls are a treasure trove of books, games, musical instruments, electronic amusements and artistic trinkets and paintings. Stacked at the door and the bar are fliers for local artists, bands, community events, zines and businesses. Comfy chairs and end tables form the hills and book shelves the mountain ranges of this cozy landscape. The power outlets are plentiful and the wifi is free. And the people! Hipsters, punks, bikers, yuppies, hippies, art students, businesspersons, kids, grandparents, fetish models (with clothing on of course).... They're all here. I think i've even seen a Republican in there. This is truly a melting pot, and nobody cares who you are as long as you're friendly and have some mulah to spend. This shop could easily be added to a list of no-money fun, but you'll probably spend at least a couple bucks before you leave - there's just too much great stuff to buy! Their theme nights can be downright addictive, from their Go nights to Jaws movie marathons to the Zombie Pajama Parties to Stitch 'N Bitch (a monthly female-centric craft-fest) you can't not find something fun to do here. Art shows are a common sight and most of the art and trinkets hanging up are for sale. Hell if you're bored just grab a book or a game or strike up a conversation. Did I mention NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT THIS PLACE?! Oh, they also sell coffee and tea here too. From standard black to peanut butter cup latte's and earl grey to custom mixes of loose leafs, they've got your caffeine (or decaf) fix on lock. They also have various snacks such as cake, pie, gourmet tater tots, pop tarts and granola-y bars. The prices are cheap enough for any college kid to have lunch & dinner here with enough left over for a taxi. Granted, i'm really biased because i'm a regular and by now have met most of the other regulars and staff. But if you're looking for any kind of independent fun place in Broward, this is one of the only ones left. read more

I've been eyeing this place for awhile and finally decided to check it out on a Friday night. It was a charming and quirky place upstairs with books, lights, and all sorts of things going on everywhere. It's definitely not your average cafe-- it's more like you're at someone's house. It's a place where people go to socialize, play games, watch TV, and a few even study (although I don't recommend it because the noise can be distracting & there are only a few small tables). Even so, I like this place because it's unique and a good place to hang out. Why two stars? I was expecting high quality coffee from a place like this. This place has a lot of character, as well as its fair share of characters, and every visit is a new surprise. It seems that there are many regulars hanging out, which is evident by how well they get along with the baristas. It's almost easy to feel like an outsider, especially if you don't bring your own friend along, but I was only there to work. From what I have seen, they also have some great themed nights each for specific crowds, and it's really awesome to see that they cater to a variety of different people. There is no shortage of hangout activities here, and I feel that this would make a great first date location - in the evening with the older/non-highschool crowd.
