To put in words how much I love this place. Oh boy. I come here at least once a week. They have an enormous collection of books--newer ones, classics, a mix of all different kinds. They have video games, CD's, DVD's, Vinyl's and for each item, you're only spending between $2.50-$4.00 The owners/staff are always helpful and kind. I couldn't recommend it more. It's rare that I visit and don't leave with at least one or two really cool finds. Can't say enough kind things about this shop. Every time I come here I feel like I'm in a small little bookshop in Paris on a rainy day. Perfect environment to get lost for hours walking the isles and browsing. The prices are fantastic too. If there's a book or film you can't find just ask the owner, he's wonderful and very helpful. I discovered this bookstore a few weekends ago when I was on the hunt for a used bookstore in the Fort Lauderdale. It is a small shop located in a strip mall right off of US-1. There is parking in the front or along the side of the building. This bookstore has a large selection of used books including new books and books in almost every genre you can think of. The pricing is very affordable at around $3-4 per book. I was able to leave with 5 books that I was really interested in, including a newer release that I was VERY excited to find. Masks are required and signage is posted to maintain social distancing. The space is small but for most of my visit I was alone while I was browsing. The owner was very friendly and held my books up front for my while I was browsing so that I didn't have to carry them all around. I will definitely be back to check out this store again to see how the selection has changed and hopefully find some more books! As with all used book stores, each trip is a treasure hunt to see what you can find! read more

I love visiting independent bookstores whenever I travel. Big Apple Books was one of the stores that I found while browsing on Yelp and decided it would be the one I'd visit. Let me just say, this has to be one of the best (and most dangerous in a good way) bookshops I've been to. I walked in and heard Keely Smith playing over the speakers and saw books, CDs, and LPs everywhere. There is not a corner that is without some sort of media. The books are organized by subject and arranged alphabetically. There is a good mix of newer and older books, so if you're like me and into 20th-century fiction, this is the place for you. The prices are pretty good, as well. As I recall, all my books were $4/piece, so I left fairly happy. read more

This is my all time favorite used bookstore. It's stocked from floor to ceiling with books. It's small, but there is plenty to look at. With old legendary classics, kids books, self help, and so much fiction, there is something for everyone to discover. Books are between $3-5, I usually am able to walk out with a huge pile. My favorite thing to do is grab a coffee on a Saturday afternoon, and spend a few hours rummaging through everything. They are open until 5pm, so make sure you get there early enough so you have plenty of time to look around. They also have records and DVDs for sale. Lots of tv show box sets which are always fun to own. Make sure you do not miss the backroom. I almost did my first time there. Big Apple Books is a cute little book store on Federal Highway just .1 miles north of Commercial Blvd on the south side of the road. It's in an obscure, little plaza. If you blink, you'll miss it. It's  jam-packed full of Books, CDs, DVDs, LPs, and games...just about anything that you can think of. And even though it's jam-packed, it's well-organized. It's cute and it's cozy. The selection is excellent! I made some money on some old books, CDs, and DVDs and I am going to donate the rest. Next time I'm going to spend a little more time there. This is a gem of a bookstore. Small, quaint, with a very good variety of books, music and DVDs. The owner is awesome and always has really good music on the record player (yes record player). I've found myself going there by myself and disconnecting from the outside noise. Give it a visit. You will thank me. This is a hidden gem of a used bookstore that is plentiful and filled with lots of treasures. The books are reasonably priced, and many are in near-mint condition. I was even able to find a few classics that were early editions. I shop here for vinyl records as well as books for teens and adults. The first time we went, my teenagers stocked up for some vacation reading. I picked up a couple classic records and found the authors I was hoping for. When they did not have two particular authors, I inquired if they stocked them. Thankfully, staff listens to customer requests: My very next visit, I discovered a great selection by both authors! The staff is friendly. They play vinyl records. They constantly restock their books and albums. My husband and daughter's only frustration was that many books are in boxes.(Maybe a purge is in order). But if you ask, the salesperson will help find stuff. Dont let the exterior dissuade you from entering. This is a great used bookstore that also sells CDs, DVDs, games and vinyl records. Most of the books are sorted by genre, but of course they have so many books that there are also some in boxes on the floor. It was tricky to find what I was looking for. The condition of the books vary, some are great, some not so great. Since I've bought an e-reader, I've really missed books and it was nice to peruse all the books at Big Apple. This little book store is jam-packed full of books, music and movies. Service is always friendly, the selection is varied and interesting. I love used book stores in general, because I'm a pretty hardcore reader - and the best part of a book store is instant gratification. You walk in, look around, and leave with a book. How awesome is that? I stop by here occasionally because it's close to work. I am mostly a science fiction reader and while their selection in this area isn't tiny by most standards, I've read so much it's often frustrating to look for new stuff, but I usually find at least one or two books. The last time I stopped by, I spent some time browsing the entire store and I found a couple of pretty cool things. It's definitely worth your time to look around and not just arrow straight to whatever section is your preferred flavor! read more

I have been going to this little gem for over 2 years now and each time I stop in, they never fail to disappoint with some great finds! Awesome selection of vinyl and CDs, as well as DVDS and various genres of books. Be aware that with the DVDs, if you get a season or series, they charge per disc...so you might be better off just getting a brand new one for the same price at Walmart. They also charge per disc when it comes to vinyl records (i.e. double discs). Sometimes you can find books that haven't even been cracked open! Books are $2 for small paperback, $4 for large paperback and hardcover, $2.50 for CDs, $2 for DVDs, $4 for Vinyl Records. I do recall that they do have occasional sidewalk sales and record sales where the vinyl is $2 each! Awesome little place!!! read more

Even though it's a used bookstore, the quality is so high you couldn't even tell. They have the most amazing vintage and rare versions of classics. I have a few issues with this store. The first is the system they use when you bring in books to sell to the store. There is no trade-in system. Instead, the proprietor offers fifty cents for a hardcover/trade paperback and twenty five cents for a mass market paperback. This offering is rather insulting, and I'd rather donate my books to Out of the Closet or Poverello in lieu of a tax deduction. I get much greater satisfaction knowing my books will benefit charity than receiving chump change. The store sells hardcovers/trade paperbacks for four dollars and mass market paperbacks for two dollars. As a result, you get reciprocal value for a "trade-in" at 1/8 the value of a similar item being sold in the store. As a result, the trade-in value is unfair and does not remotely correspond with the market value of items being sold in the store. Second, when items are brought in to be sold they are highly scrutinized by the staff. The main culprit of this scrutiny is the employee Greg. He nitpicks, makes faces, huffs and puffs while examining materials. Greg, this is a USED bookstore. Take your pomposity to the return desk of a Barnes and Noble or Books and Books. As a corollary to my second contention is the fact that the inventory in this store is small. I love literary fiction, but this store doesn't have much of it. I'd say that a combination of the scrutiny over incoming materials, in conjunction with the staff's lack of familiarity with authors that aren't Stephen King or Michael Connelly, results in a flat and limited offering on the shelves. This store is close to home so I pop in frequently. However, I frequently leave empty handed. I frequently find better and less expensive books at the local thrift shops, and any obscure book I can easily find on Thriftbooks.com (with free shipping, a search function that doesn't require searching shelves and cardboard boxes, and prices that are no greater and oftentimes less than Big Apple, this has become my go-to). I only go in on sale days these days, but even then I leave disappointed. Happy Reading! read more

4 Stars for the amazing amount of versatility. I'm a big fan of recycled books and have popped into a few used bookstores before but this is definitely at the top of the litter. Everything is sectioned off so it's easy to find the different books and sections. It is a little cluttered, but that is as expected for a used bookstore. I'm a germophobe but had no problem perusing books for literally 4 hours. When I first walked in, I wasn't immediately greeted and the lady at the front seemed to be involved in conversation, probably with one of the regulars at the store. This is perfectly fine with me because I don't like to be bothered when I look around. As everyone else left I felt a bit awkward being in there alone because there was no music playing but that quickly changed when she greeted me and then asked if I needed any help. I told her I was just browsing and she was very understanding. She could tell that I'm the kind who does a lot of exploring on my own and like the privacy and let me know she was there if I needed anything. I have a weird thing where I can be social but I prefer being left to my quiet exploration time so bonus points for that. She also started playing some classic music that I like and it made a relaxing experience. They also do have vinyls (LOVE) and DVDs. Those were unfortunately a little harder to dig through as they didn't seem to be organized in any certain way. I'm a sucker for records so that was my only qualm because if I had stayed, I would've been there for another 4 hours digging through them. From what I understand, you can bring your used books, DVDs and vinyls to sell as well. I like the give-back to the community. There is a pricing sign and I guess I misunderstood it because I assumed paperback was $2 but most of my books ended up being $4. It was a little confusing to understand, hence why I took away one star. 4 Stars because I'm a fan and will be going back. I walked about with about 5 books and was not disappointed. read more

The best way I can describe it is like what you'd see and experience at a yard sale, or the salvation army or red cross donated books section. The store is small, and the selection is very poor. Mostly second tier hardcovers, yesterday's New York Times best seller list, bland... The books are on tabletops or in boxes on the floor -- for a place this small, floor to ceiling zig-zag shelving would be a must, but they don't have enough books to fill the small room, so I suppose that's irrelevant. Books are *very* loosely organized, with a general "fiction" section, for example. Virtually no sci-fi, fantasy or thrillers, and if you're a collector or bibliophile just completely forget it. They were extremely friendly, I must note, and although that is certainly welcome in any store, my main concern is with the merchandise. I can't comment on the pricing because I didn't see anything of interest and walked out (prices are not posted on the items). I'm new to the area, but what I've found so far, for general book lovers, I recommend Second Edition books in Fort Lauderdale, and for fantasy/sci-fi and vintage/collectible fans I recommend Volume One Books also in Fort Lauderdale. read more

Big Apple carries every kind of book you can imagine. The place is quite small but if you have time and patience, you just might come across what you are looking for. Unfortunately because the place is so small and they have books coming in all all the time, they are everywhere. In boxes, on shelves and on piles on the floor. This can be quite frustrating if you just want to look for a particular type of book. They also sell CDs and records at great prices which is awesome. A lot of the time the records aren't always in the greatest condition but I've found quite a few that I've been quite happy with. I have been going to this book store ever since it was in another location and the sales were a $1. They have now moved to this location on Federal Highway just North of Commercial and sales are now $2, still a bargain. If you are looking for a particular book they will do their best to direct you to it but that is not how I approach my shopping. I love that there are books in boxes everywhere. It's like a treasure hunt. I always find something unexpected and perfect. While I peruse the books my daughter raids their CD's and horror movies. We never leave without a pile of goodies. On our last outing I found the perfect Christmas present for my dad and my daughter found a CD she exclaimed that she has been looking for for twenty years! (she's 17 so I don't know, I think she was just really excited). Staff is super friendly and always ready to discuss books and movies with us. If you want to know when the $2 sales are just sign up for their emails. They will also buy books, records, CD's and movies back from you or give you store credit. We like to pair an outing to this store with a trip up the street to Richie's Italian Ice (Commercial and Powerline), for the perfect weekend afternoon. read more

Big Apple Books has a huge selection of books, but since its in a pretty small location not all of the books and movies actually fit on the shelves. Consequently, you'll find tons of books and DVDs in boxes along the walls and bookshelves -- the upside being that you never know what you'll find! The staff is friendly and the customers are usually a pretty interesting & friendly bunch too. Small bookstores tend to attract a pretty wide array of quirky characters. I've found a lot of excellent books here, and it's one of my favorite places to shop for gifts for other readers. If you go in searching for a particular book, you may or may not be able to find it...but if you go in with a more general goal of finding something about a particular topic or two, you'll almost certainly find something that looks good. Stop in often, because there's always new stuff coming in & the good books go quickly! Everything is priced at $4 or less, and during their frequent sales the price comes down to $2. Even at $4, the price for a book is about the same as the lowest price you'll find on Amazon for a used book when you factor in the shipping cost. The advantage of buying here is that, A.) You're supporting a locally owned business, and B.) that you get to read your book right away! read more

Buyer & seller beware. This store has no sense of organization, consistency, holding to commitment, or customer service. There is no rhyme or reason to what they'll buy from a customer. Their inventory is organized chaos. The condition of their products differs vastly on a case by case basis. Not all employees of the store are empowered to offer the establishment's services. When you try to use the check-in coupon, you will be informed that the owner might not accept it. If you don't want to accept a yelp coupon, don't offer one. My first visit didn't go well but I gave them another chance and am glad I did. The first visit we were not greeted upon entering the store and the music was way too loud. We were grudgingly helped by someone after fumbling around for a bit....and had to seek help. Next visit....I was greeted immediately. I poked around for a bit and then asked for help and received friendly help. I was mostly shopping for kids books. The big thing that bothers me is the lack of organization....especially in the children's section. You just have to browse to see if they have a book you want....while there are sections, romance, mystery, etc....things are only roughly alphabetized and there are TONS of books on the floor in boxes willy nilly.
