You know those people who when they have their baby shell out hundreds and hundreds of dollars/euros to have a photo session à lá Anne Geddes for their child? And then the pay through the nose to have exotic baby announcement cards including one of the photos from said photo shoot made that they send out to every person they've ever talked to in their entire life? And you know how that announcement card is grey and blue/pink (or maybe green if they are trying to be "artsy") with a black and white photo and a flowy script with an endearing quote about how babies are joyous enrichment to life? And when you get that card in the mail, you are cajoled into believing that their child poops daises, only makes that cooing giggle sound when awake, has never woken up during the night, and has been pre-admitted to Harvard at birth? Ya, so, this café is that birth announcement. This is where you go with the incredibly generous family member who set up your kid's trust/college fund. It's lovely. Which is great. I should totally be into it. But, I'll admit it. I felt a bit unfit for the challenge of having a kid and being a mom that would spend time here. I don't think I'm frilly enough. It's all so cute and delightful, and so not me. That said, the play space for the kids is great. Probably the best I've seen at most of the other similar cafés. And they totally win in the cleanliness category. So, if you're less judgmental than I am and are up to the challenge of looking like a put together parent with a child who does not have snot dripping from its nose and doesn't act like a screaming banshee, this is the place for you. Maybe someday I'll play dress-up and go back just for fun. read more
