When traveling to Sioux Falls 2 times a month we like to thrift. We normally would go to goodwill, 605, etc. but we found this on google and visited it on 9/9/22 for the 2nd time and would have added this as a normal stop as the prices are decent, however after the experience today we likely will not return and would recommend others not visit as well. When we entered there were 2 individuals at the counter chatting with the clerk, an additional staff member was going back to a makeshift room in the back, maybe to council 2 males that went with her and we began shopping. My wife suffers from PTSD and as we were shopping there was a child banging something non stop on shelving for the toys. It was loud and the mother was still standing at the register chatting with the clerk. Rather than address someone else's child my wife banged loudly on a shelf hoping to get her attention away so she would stop. When we moved another shelving unit closer the little girl said that "I hate her" and my wife asked me in a hushed tone "Did you her say I hate her" to me. There was an older child standing nearby (I'd guess 15-16 yrs) and asked "what'd you say about her?" I realized at this time that the mother had left another daughter to watch the younger. My wife replied "She said she hates me" and teenager said "So what's it matter?" We walked away at that time and continued shopping dropping the matter so far as I was concerned.
15 minutes or so later I got in line to pay for items and my wife went over on the other side of a clothes rack continuing to browse while we waiting for the line. At this time the 2 woman was chatting with the clerk STILL! It could be he was really friendly but I got the idea he was a friend outside of work or related to them. There were in fact 5 in line counting myself at this time, 3 deep and then there are 2 round table, another woman was in between them in front of me another on the other side of the round table and of course myself. As we were standing there the teenage girl came over to her mother and then the mother asked where are the kids and then "daughter said "playing hide and seek" While I cannot say I heard the entirety of the conversation as I was a bit away I did here her say that woman, point at my wife and claim she yelled at her younger daughter. The mom said "What" and started talking between her, the clerk, and the heavy set woman that was standing with her. I heard the clerk say "Whatever, I just don't want to have to call the cops" thereby indicating it could escalate and he did nothing to even try to stop it at that point. The woman waited about 40 seconds and then walked over to my wife and stated "Did you yell at my daughter" I say stated because it wasn't a question it was a statement with aggressive intent. My wife is 4' 10" and is a small woman, this mother was likely 5'7 and outweighed her by 60+ lbs. My wife told her no and she continued to be aggressive and my wife very loudly said "Why are you yelling at me" At this point the teenager (who is about her moms size, maybe a bit bigger) came up right behind the mother and said "You don't talk to my mom like that bitch" and then "I'll beat your F**king A**!" and then the last rotund woman came over who was again much taller than my wife and must have outweighed her my 160LBS walked over as well as I also walked over and was telling them to leave my wife alone. The clerk was saying something as well and my wife set the things in her hand down and walked to the front down saying loudly "We don't need to buy stuff here" I set my stuff down and the picture began to fall, I took the time to catch it and be sure it wouldn't fall and break then followed my wife out. The clerk then followed us out and said we couldn't come back in the store. My wife asked what do you mean and he stated that WE started the fight and he would call the cops. This is beyond ridiculous, he heard what the teenager said, watched the mother walk over and confront my wife and did nothing to try and stop it and then accused us of starting the issue without knowing anything. I don't know again if it's because these are people that are in a lot or his family but they were clearly tight based on what I witnessed.
My wife did call the corporate office and was still upset and crying and was told that the person that answered was a secretary and that someone would call us back. We never got as call back so it appears that the corporate group is complacent with this behavior. Maybe there was some video recorded they wanted to review first and if they contact us back with a good cause for not calling us back the same day I am happy to change this review to reflect as much. read more
