The farm itself is tucked away on an unexplored part of Old Court Road that I never knew existed. Dennis, the store manager, offered a tour of the grounds where farm animals are raised onsite. Check them out, as they sell meats, egg and other dairy, produce, and the honey I was searching out. Great quality goods that I would encourage you to consider. They're a little pricier than grocery stores, but as we are seeing these days, you get what you pay for.

Sadly, seems the manager failed to accept my attempt at a good-natured suggestion some weeks ago--after a bit of unnecessary wrangling that included being told that apricots don't have pits, that you need to watch what you eat, and that it was my fault (which got me really annoyed and playing the attorney that I am)--to add "caution, contain seeds" to the label.

They had been to a wedding where they were served Dangerously Delicious Pie, a DMV classic. On Main St just west of the B&O Museum, we passed the Old Ellicott City Farmers Market in Tiber Park. And there they were: Dangerous Pies!!! I dropped everyone off and parked about a quarter mile away in the big lot west of Old Columbia Pike. It's the biggest parking lot nearby, and free :-), or you can hunt through a couple of other nearby smaller free and paid lots. There's around ten vendors, fruits and veggies of course, flowers, fresh-baked breads, and fresh-roasted coffee beans and beverages. We got sandwiches from Le Table: a classic ham gruyere béchamel Croque Monsieur on soft sweet brioche, and a turkey egg cheese on flakey buttery croissant. Also a tender bacon egg and cheddar breakfast crepe from Crepe Shoppe. All of them were made with tasty fillings and fresh bread. We got a thick soft chocolate-chip oat cookie from Bitty Bread. And then our real target, the pies! We had tart sweet yellow (not-bright-green) key lime in a "yummy yummy" crumbly crust, and sweet apple in a flaky-crust as good as my grandma's (almost :-). Pies as good as they remembered from the wedding. Pie pie pie pie pie! We hadn't been to this market before. I think it started just last May! It's nice when guests remind you to visit cool local events like this. The Old Ellicott City Farmers Market runs Saturdays 9-1 until Oct 25th.

Most of the foods are produce, but there are a few places that sell meats, cheeses, and eggs. In addition to that, there are some vendors who sell soaps, honey, prepared foods like granola, and occasionally someone is selling wine/beer/mead. My son and I like to get pastries from Garrett, the Parisian pastry chef. Daunted? There's usually an info table with people sharing recipes, gardening tips, etc. At least some of the vendors accept food stamps, but I'm not sure if they all do. Short on cash? There's a stall where you can buy tokens with your card and use the tokens to purchase at the stalls. It's a small, but great farmer's market!
