I must say that during this experience with Overlook my mom was treated with the highest level of professionalism, respect, dignity, and compassion. From the ER to the standard in patient rooms to the CCU she was fortunate to have been treated by amazing individuals including Doctors, nurses, aides, meal providers, maintenance, etc. I do have to reference several professionals that had a major impact during my mom's stays which were: Dr Jessie Wilt, one of the best professionals that i ever met in my life, with unlimited knowledge, respect, compassion and really just an amazing human being who truly cares! Nurses; Sidneia, Olivia CCU, Justin CCU, Megan CCU, Rae Mauro, Emily C., Sheryl, Jamell Quiles, Erika and Faith. To these individuals especially and to the entire staff and organization of the Hospital I would like to thank them for everything that they did to make my mom's last days the most comforting possible! It's no surprise that Overlook is ranked as one of the best hospitals in New Jersey -- the entire Atlantic Health System is outstanding. I will be forever grateful to the Overlook Breast Cancer Department for discovering my breast cancer during my routine yearly mammogram. I am thankful to the oncology team to be here. Every department and office experience were lovely and knowledgeable.

Was seemingly lied to and belittled by every ER doctor here. Was told by a Dr Kelly " oh you feel like you can't breathe, What do you expect me to do there's nothing, what what" As also told by a Dr Kelley that four broken and possibly infected teeth would not cause breathing problems because respiratory is not connected to mouth at all (lie?). Dr. Womack and Dr Grayson repeated this. Dr Grayson also snapped and said heck if your teeth are bothering you see a damn dentist. We don't care about that here. Was told by a Dr. Silacci " your trouble breathing and heart problems are not the concern of this hospital." Was told by Dr. Davis "why are you expecting us to help you, how dare you expect us to fix your engine when this place is for tune ups. (Doctor likened patients to worthless pieces of scrap metal.) A nurse one time even put the pulse oximeter on my middle finger, showed me my own middle finger, laughed and then exited the room. Very bad. Hospital says that they will help you regardless of who you are or your ability to pay. They will not. I've had trouble doing things all my life. No one is really going to care what is really going or why something happened. Just shut up or TS. Things never really do get better as they say. Don't come here expecting them to save your life because they probably will not. Only worse. Don't know a place that is good to go as the healthcare I experienced in the area has only been bad. If you can't go elsewhere or fight for yourself....thats all she wrote. Even though you try to do what they day, you never really do get what you need. So keep that in mind as well folks. Whispers of gay conversion therapy also reared its ugly head. Didn't know that was still a thing. Yikes!

Emergency room lacks professionalism, skill and compassion. Male nurse on duty 11/18/25 (evening…read moreshift) violated infection control protocol by not washing or sanitizing his hands before putting on gloves to draw blood. Additionally, he left a used syringe and vials with blood on top of a med table. An empty vial was observed logged between the gurney pad and metal frame. Also, he stuck bloody tape to the gurney's mattress cover. His technique for drawing blood was sloppy as blood spewed all over arm and blanket when he removed the syringe. This nurse failed to introduce himself upon entering the room and appeared to be disturbed. It appeared that the blood samples collected were compromised due to his poor handling of the vials he collected............ This was evidenced by the Lab who notified me 2 days later that the blood samples had been contaminated and results were not possible. Needle caps and used cotton gauze were o served on the floor. A section of the room's wall had holes possibly due to the removal of equipment. The clock on the wall needed a new battery or repair as it displayed 7:00 for the entire 3 hours we were there. The letters of a sign posted on the wall to indicate the duration of certain standard emergency room procedures were faded beyond legibility. This is obviously an urban/inner-city hospital in need of a massive overall and an injection of millions of dollars and retraining of professional staff. Considering reporting deficiencies to NJ Dept. Of Health and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

The care staff was not trained and the environment was very dangerous for my child. There was zero available parking everything was broken from the moment you stepped inside the facility from the waiting area to the rooms. The staff was dismissive and the Dr.'s incorrectly billed my child's account as out of network forcing us to enforce the NSA federal guidelines for network coverage during a hospital stay. I am convinced this was done intentionally hoping we would just pay a bill out of pocket that we never should have received for inflated "out of network " charges thousands of dollars more than what the rate should have been. Unfortunately, we had no choice sending our child here as it was an emergency but if you have a choice stay clear of this facility it is worse than you can possibly imagine! The area is also a very dangerous place so you run the chance of needing a hospital if you visit loved ones at night in this area! We witnessed a car jacking and gang activity just walking across the street to the facility! I truly believe this entire network should be shutdown and relocated to a safer more accessible location.

The ER experience was one of the worst I've ever had. Registration didn't even happen until 3 hours after we arrived, well into the visit. My son provided a urine sample that sat on a table the entire time and was never tested. While one nurse was a tad bit decent, the rest of the staff showed a shocking lack of professionalism and basic respect. Staff members (including security) were standing in the hallway laughing, having personal conversations, and at one point I heard someone ask a coworker, "Are you ready for your next victim?"--completely inappropriate in a medical setting. The cleanliness was unacceptable. I noticed red spots on the floor and brought it to a staff member's attention, concerned it was blood. I was told, "That's not blood, that's pizza sauce," and they walked away without addressing it. The bathrooms were in terrible condition! We saw urine on the floor, backed-up toilets, and even spider webs in the corners. The place smelled like old urine! There were patients in the hallway in beds because I guess they ran out of rooms? No privacy whatsoever!! It also felt like care was delayed due to a shift change--we were left waiting until the next staff came in rather than being properly attended to. Overall, the level of care was extremely poor, and my son's issue was never fully addressed. The most alarming part came after we left: I realized in addition to my sons discharge papers, I had been given another patient's discharge paperwork, including highly sensitive information like EKG and chest X-ray results, bloodwork, address, phone number, date of birth, medications, reason for his visit and medical history. I contacted risk management three times and never received a response. This experience was unacceptable from start to finish. I would not return here under any circumstances. Please, if you have a choice, go somewhere else.

It has been a year since I was carried into the Mountainside ER by the EMT and 4 Firemen, who I want to thank again! I was involved in a snow blower accident where by the commercial snow blower kicked back and then landed on my right knee. The pain was incredible, I could not move my leg at all and if it was moved even the slightest, the pain was enough to put me in shock. Well, once I was carried in ER. The doctor on duty scheduled a x-ray. MRI's are not available at this ER. Crazy! Also there was not orthopedic doc available. The tech came into my room and asked me to come with him. Ok, really. I told him I could not move at all. So he said oh, I wasn't told. He then left and came back with a portable x-ray device. The angles he tried to move my leg, when I say I would of rather had my teeth pulled out with no novocaine then this pain. After that was complete a 1/2 hr later the doctor came to see me to tell me he saw nothing on the x-ray. I was shocked. He told me to follow-up with a orthopedic doctor. The nurse came in with a full leg brace. She asked me to lift my leg so she could put the brace on. WHAT WEREN'T THEY UNDERSTANDING! I could NOT move my leg. Finally she tried lifting my leg and straightening my leg to fit in this brace thing. Screaming like I have never before. The PAIN I would not invite on anyone! Once my leg was in the brace, she asked me to get up. I still didn't get what was going on. I COULD NOT MOVE! The Nurse and my wife then help me off the stretcher. I wanted to shoot myself in the head at this point. No matter how I describe the pain I felt to you all. It is not even close to the real pain I felt. Well fighting through it, with the nurse and my wifes help I was standing up straight. Now what I said. The nurse wanted my to lower myself into the wheelchair. Now again, any slight move the pain was overbearing. So frustrated at this point I dropped into the wheel chair. SCREAMING ! The pain beyond what any human could take. I said get me up! GET ME UP NOW ! Well sitting was not happening. To now make this long story a bit shorter. I took baby steps to my car that my wife went to get. We have a SUV so she was able to help me get in and lay flat. Once home it was a Sh$# show. Getting out of the car. Up the steps. Well of course the pain got the best of me and I fell from the pain and then laid on the ground for over a hour saying don't move me. Friends came later and got me into bed. I schedule a appointment with a orthopedic surgeon. I had to get there which was not easy. Here is where the story gets interesting. HE LOOKS AT THE XRAY AND SAYS HERE IS THE ISSUE. YOUR KNEE CAP (PATELLA) IS UP IN YOUR THIGH AND YOUR PATELLA TENDON IS COMPLETELY RUPTURED IN HALF. YOU NEED SURGERY ASAP. THANK YOU MOUNTAINSIIDE HOSPITAL FOR making me endure the worst pain imaginable and THE worst experiense of my life. I will never walk right again because of you. : (
