Things I liked: very clean and well appointed rooms, comfortable bed, secure keypad entry and exit, and very good breakfast. Things might be a little different if you rent the whole house, though for our stay, the kitchen was open for breakfast only 8:30-10:30 AM. But there was a coffee bar always available, with a couple tables and plenty of chairs inside and out for a carry-out meal or just to read and relax. Our host Ron was very friendly, super helpful, and offered a wealth of information about the area. Ask him about the wine trail, and he will get you pointed in the right direction. The Staymaker/ Journeyman Distillery is right across the street, so this was a great home base for walking the town, and a central location for drives to wineries and/or Lake Michigan beaches. It truly felt like you were in a home and not simply renting a house that only consisted of the bare bones essentials. There was great attention to detail, and all of the beds were super comfortable. There was the cutest little grocery store within walking distance where we got coffee, fresh squeezed OJ, and breakfast sandwiches in the morning. Meg was so accommodating and friendly throughout the entire process. I would definitely stay at any of her properties in the future.

She has mastered the art of being there when you need her while also giving you your space if you need it. The entire house had a nice, laid back charm with all of the modern conveniences that you'll need. I loved sitting on the quiet back porch, while my teen daughter enjoyed the free wifi to do whatever she needed to do. The evening appetizers and wine were lovely, and she even offered tea or lemonade to my daughter. In the morning, we came down to fresh brewed coffee and coffee cake to munch on while she made our breakfast. Nancy was the perfect host, she gave great recommendations for enjoying the area, and even gave us great tips for visiting Chicago when we left - she is a former resident.

We spent many hours outside on the screened in deck. A personal fire pit was available for our use. The swimming pools & lake provided a respite from the heat. It is hard to find a place to go to getaway from home in the middle of a pandemic. After a few…read morehours of searching, my friend and I decided to spend 3 nights and 4 days at Lakeside Cabins Resort. The cabins have a full kitchen and the location is only 1.5 hours from my condo in Chicago. The prices were more affordable than Airbnb and Vrbo mostly due to lower cleaning fees. The grounds also have nice amenities (pool, kayak/ stand up paddle boards, volleyball, catch and release fishing, basketball, shuffleboard, firepits, etc.) We picked Cabin C62 because of its patio/deck space and lake views. The cabin is somewhat dated, but it was very clean. You do have to bring towels, linens, shampoo/conditioner/dish soap, paper products, etc. which makes for more packing/ planning but we expected this so it wasn't an issue. The sleeping lofts can be used by children or adults. I had no problem going up and down the stairs both during the day and in the evening/night. The only "problem" that we ran into was that our DVD player was not working when we tried to watch a movie the first night. We reported this to the front desk and they purchased a new DVD player and delivered it to us in a timely manner so we were satisfied. The staff was very friendly. We were able to find more than enough to do and were also able to relax. The property is very kid friendly and not loud at night or early in the morning which is exactly what we were looking for. After my rental experience, I am considering purchasing and building a new "tiny house" on the property. I've always wanted a second home, and this is a very affordable way to be able to do so nice and close to home! I plan to visit again next month with my husband for another short getaway. A+++++ experience!

The company provided a detailed manual of instructions, attractions, and notes (Wi-Fi, lock box) prior to check-in. We were also surprised with some sweet treats and a bottle of wine upon arrival. The Black House on Beech is a small stunner called The Starling. Perhaps The Startling might be more apropos because it is a 2-story 3BR, 2BA house on a small footprint painted a pure matte black. Inside is modern and simple, decorated in black and white. They've considered every comfort -- there's a sauna, a hot tub, fire pit and hammock-- outside. Connect to the house Wi-Fi, watch a movie, play some tunes on the turntable, challenge your companions to a few board games--inside. Or walk a few minutes to Staymaker Restaurant at Journeyman Distillery, stock up on staples at Froehlich's Kitchen & Pantry, or enjoy a casual lunch/brunch at Oaks Eatery. This is a fine getaway for a small group or family. We only had a small mixup with the Wi-Fi but they were very responsive and this was cleared up right away. All the amenities at a small and quiet oasis. We didn't use the sauna but will be ready to try it on a return visit.

I can't say enough great things about the entire experience--my friend loved every moment of her celebratory vacation!
