(In my defense, I am carrying an iced latte.) This is not your typical suburban mall. There are no fluorescent lights illuminating a food court full of teenagers eating pretzels. Instead, you'll find restaurants, cafés, valet parking, and enough designer stores to make you briefly consider whether you, too, are the kind of person who needs a silk scarf. The Short Hills Mall somehow manages to feel both luxurious and welcoming. Whether you're there to buy a designer handbag or simply wander around with a coffee and people-watch, there's something lovely about spending an afternoon here. Five stars for allowing me to feel rich for a few hours.

It has a nice mix of luxury brands along with more affordable options. I especially like the Macy's here, it's never crowded, as well as Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel. They also recently added little words project (love this store and its mission to spread kindness ). We also came for their Christmas Santa photos, and it was a really nice experience meeting Santa with the kids. The only downside is that I wish they had a food court. It would definitely make the shopping experience easier, especially when you're there with kids and want to grab a quick bite. Overall, I like coming here.

Ahh, this strip mall has been around for a really long time, even longer before I was born in the…read moreextreme early 90s. When I was a little toddler in Garwood, my dad would take me out here just to walk around. There was an "open space" area with visible steel structures where I used to just run around briefly during those times. Today, that "open space" is still there. This strip mall has two anchor stores. Since the early 90s, those anchor stores were Walgreens and Kings. During the 90s, they had some other notable stores that I remember either going into or passed by when I was little. Those stores included Radio Shack, Encore Books (I bet a lot of you during those times remember this store!), Dress Barn, an Eye DR place, a liquor store, and a laundromat. The roof tops on the strip mall were green, and some green circles were visible on some parts of the strip mall as well. The parking lot is huge, and reasonably sized for all of the patrons here. The parking lot is also for patrons only, since they don't like commuters parking for the purpose of boarding trains. In the 90s, the parking area revealed a lot of old, faded parking stripes and designs, which proved that the parking layout was different long before I existed. But fast forward to today, the old parking decals are long gone, and the lot itself is quite smoother than before. Today, the stores that are still in business since the 90s include Kings, Dress Barn, an Eye Dr place (with different name), and a laundromat. Encore Books was gone and the space was probably taken over by Pet Valu. Walgreens moved further down the road, and Crunch Fitness took their former spot, thus making them an anchor. The liquor store got replaced by GNC. The steel structures were covered up in the "open space" area. The roof tops are still green today, as well as the circles, except for the one circle on top of Investors Bank. Not sure why that was painted with a different color. Overall, this strip mall serves the purpose of catering to the patrons in a very small town. I've never had an issue with parking here at all. Walking from one end of the strip mall to the other is pleasant. But be patient when trying to make a left turn into the strip mall from South Avenue as the opposing traffic can be very hectic at times. Cheers!

Weekends are absolutely packed here, but during the week is the best time to go cause you can actually take your time and avoid the hustle and bustle of all the people. Another thing to mention is that a movie theater is right out in the back so if you wanna go check something out in theaters, everything is made very convenient for everyone.

At the very least, you stand a chance at getting decent deals and more bang for your buck! Outlet stores like Adidas, Nike, Coach, etcetera have usually have worthwhile bargains throughout the year, maybe even especially during holiday season. Parking is never scarce, but it still depends on what days/times you go. Not a big fan of their food court, but there is an adjacent movie theater.

Many unique or otherwise Restaurants have made their home here like Van Gogh's ear cafe, Noodle Fan, Dava Fusion and more. Then there are Main Stay's like Brooklyn Pizza which has been around for years successfully and Magic Fountain Ice Cream which also has been around since I was a kid loaded up in the summer with people. Venturing further down Stuyvesant (where Union Center is located) away from Morris Ave. you'll find even more restaurants such as one of 4 of the Burnet BBQ locations, which has great Portuguese food. Parking is not as bad as some other strips similar to Union Center, but of course not perfect. If you're looking to try some unique spots to eat and hang out, Union Center is a good choice.

All in all it's an upcoming place to shop and hang out. If you haven't checked it out then you should swing on by and give it a look.

Also a Whole Foods, so it's a good one stop shop if you shop at these stores and live or commute nearby. There are a ton of great stores outside of the plaza as well, a Barnes and Noble, Target, Hand and Stone, and plenty of good food options are all within a 2 mile radius. The stores are all fairly new and well maintained and the plaza can get a bit busy but there is plenty of parking. It's a good place to shop if you're tired of the mall or don't want to deal with the crowds at the mall. 5/5

It doesn't have the very high end stores that you'll find at Short Hills, but I usually b-line for the Nordstroms. Parking is plentiful and easy, stores are clean and organized, they have an AMC Dine-In movie theater. And I really have never seen it too packed! All in all a good mall and a good place for window shopping, actual shopping and all other shopping days.
