Union Square Park is like a little piece of Europe in NYC. Accessible by car, bus or train in downtown Manhattan. You can stroll through, sit & watch what's going on or eat your lunch. There's always some type of amusing performance going on, , skateboarders, all types of vendors, Farmers Market in the Spring, Summer & Fall & a Holiday Market with lots of kiosks & vendors during the Winter Christmas season. I live in the neighborhood. For first timers, nice place to visit for an hour or so, but Washington Square Park is much nicer and more buskers. The Farmer's Market is really the only draw for people who live in Manhattan and/or to hang out on a park bench and read a book. read more

A nice park with lots of space to sit and relax, people watch, enjoy a meal, and enjoy the NY life. I came with my baby and husband and we had pizza together and listened to some local bands perform at the park. We appreciate they had bathrooms around the corner and they were as clean as park bathrooms usually are. read more

About time to write a review! :) LOVES: - the Greenmarket: with lots of fresh produce, meat and dairy, baked goods, condiments, seasonal wine, cider, syrup, flowers, etc. with products all sourced regionally in the NY metro area. Where chefs, locals, tourists, and everyone in between come to procure foodstuffs and ingredients. Open Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat. - the digital clock on the southeast corner: called the Metronome, from 2000-2020 it counted forward like a regular clock and backwards for each 24-hour interval down to 1/10th of a second. Since 2020 it's served as a Climate Clock, counting down at current emissions rates, how long it will take to burn through our "carbon budget", or how long we have left before hitting 1.5 degrees Celsius in global warming, which signifies destructive and irreversible climate impacts. - special programming like art and cultural festivals, including music and dance performances, food & drink festivals, occasionally parades that pass thru. I love that they have annual programming for dance groups of different ethnicities and backgrounds to perform. - people watching: it's a sociological survey to grab a coffee or drink, sit at a bench and observe loafers, loungers, rally attendees, work out buffs, chess players, break dancers, lunch breakers, skate boarders, artists, shoppers, vendors, and passerby. QUESTIONABLE: - the state of subway and general cleanliness of the surrounding area. NYC just isn't the cleanest place, unfortunately filled with many people who don't care for their community cleanliness. Undoubtedly not the worst area, though hardly the best. - the amount of green space for a park--to me it feels somewhat lacking especially since the north end of the square is essentially a large parking lot. There's always something going on here-- whether it's guys dancing in the front, someone doing some public speaking, people playing dominos, kids playing, a farmers market, etc--- this park has it all. It's located near several businesses, you may be here taking a break or taking in the sights. They constantly have people cleaning up and attempting to keep things orderly. read more

Right now they have the Union Square holiday market with lots of food and gift vendors. I purchased a "positive fries" from a vendor with knitted items and thought the price was reasonable. The only thing I don't like is all the pigeons walking around, you could trip over them. But it is NYC so city pigeons should be expected. read more

It's a busy park with playground, open grass area, benches and dog park. They have green market almost every other day. I dont like the park that much. I can smell weed and urine. Homeless scatter their belongings. The environmental service crew is great at doing their jobs but it's really beyond them. read more

Well I've hung out here for years and it's an interesting place pretty much no one bothers you but you see a mix of middle class, rich and poor hanging out. Not as many homeless as before, people with dogs and some weird characters. It's nice to come and feed the squirrels and have a bite to eat. The free market is good too. read more

I stopped by Union Square for the first time in years when I traveled to NYC for a spontaneous solo weekend for Labor Day last weekend. The Union Square Greenmarket is open Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays year-round from 8am to 6pm, and it's definitely worth checking out. Great produce, beautiful flowers, and delicious food (if you're there for a meal rather than shopping). A great selection of vendors and you can find so much. I think it was one of the first farmers markets I ever visited when I attended college in New York years ago, and I still love it today. I definitely recommend checking out the market at Union Square if you're in the area on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday! read more

Growing up this Park was a mess before renovations improved the area drastically. Attended a few HEAVY METAL concerts in my youth at the PALLADIUM (1927-1997) which was down the block from UNION SQUARE. This is a review of Union Square in the evening. My daughter and I walked through around 6:30 pm. On approach, it was lively with music and food stands, ranging from Mexican to Filipino to boba. However, once we entered the actual park, we couldn't get away from the smell of weed, and then I started noticing the mice! At least I think they were mice, because they were small and cute, but that could have been me high on secondhand smoke. We counted at least six big and small scurrying every which way...nobody else batted an eye! Honestly, I was underwhelmed by this park. Maybe it would have been better in the day? read more

I love Union Square, everytime I go there. Wether it's just browsing through the vegetables, fruits, breads, honey or herbs markets, it's a delight to see the freshness of it all. The wonderful Whole Food is across the street from the park along with amazing stores that everyone loves. Union Square is always crowded. I've gone to see the Thai Monks for a couple of Saturdays with my aunt Sue, who had invited me to go with her. They were situated behind the small gate that gave them space in the park, on the west side. These Thai Monks has a title "Walk for World Peace." They had walked from Miami, Florida to Niagra Falls already and are planning to walk in the Scandinavian countries. So, around 11:00 am, the 6 Monks would line up to received food from the attendees. It was put in the large bowls that they carried. Then they can eat after the prayers. After that, the attendees may eat. Omg!! So much Thai food, that was brought by each attendees, were delicious. Everyone relaxed and chatted with one another after the meals. Funds were raised by the attendees for the Monks. It was a great event. read more

We stayed at a hotel in the Flatiron District and wandered over here several times, once on a walking tour and then on our own. There was a wonderful farmers market and art market going on, one day we accessed the subway stop to get on a line we needed, and there always seems to be a protest or gathering going on. Beautiful park along 14th street... there are plenty of nice restaurants and street markets to make for fun fanfare for everybody. The magnanimous statues around the park add to its appeal to make it more than just a tiny city park. It is also in a nice part of the city. Expensive, but nice. Gramercy and Chelsea are close by if you are looking for quaintness. Summer times make for fun times here if you are looking for that. I just returned from a work trip to the Big Apple and what can I say except, "I love New York." There's just something about a park in the midst of a city you have to appreciate. There are vendors here and musicians and protests and runners and chess....It's spring, so plenty of fresh colors are popping and trees are budding. It was warmer in the morning and the temperature was comfortable to walk around without a coat. I'll take all of that! I find myself here quite often these days. It's a great spot to meet up with friends, have a protest, attend random events that occasionally pops up. Remember when Pokemon Go first came out? Yeah I was there standing with the thousands of others. There's nothing quite like people watching and maybe witness some awkward dates. Besides that, the greenmarket is hosted here where you can get some fresh produce from local farms and other businesses. You can try to out hustle a chess hustler. There doesn't appear to be a dog park, but looks like they're in the middle of finally constructing one. There's even a kids playground in the North. So this place will have it all. Union Square Park is a small park that is pretty close to a lot of different shops. We walked to this park because we wanted to check it out before we headed to the Flat Iron Building. There is also a Nordstrom Rack quite close to this park. Whole Foods, Vans and even SEPHORA. Plenty of shops and cafes as well. So overall if you want you'll be able to walk around the area and find something to do. The park itself does have benches and you can see plenty of people passing through it. Having parks in the cities are wonderful and also just feels nicer. Even though this park is small I think it's still good that they have it here. You can't have too many parks in a city. Union Square is a pretty cool part of the city, although it seems to have never-ending construction work which still seems to be going on now, which appears in photos from even five years prior, it is a rather nice place to spend some time and is also home to some big brands including Whole Foods and Vapiano, although the latter really is pretty poor compared to branches across Europe in Netherlands and Germany for example. A rather small park right in the centre with a statue too, which is still a pretty nice area despite it lacking anything too special which gives it a USP to stand out compared to the vast number of parks around the city. It does have its' own subway station, sharing its' name which makes it pretty easy to get to from around the city. A small park which is central to public transit and a load of shops and restaurants, it does get busy, however (but where doesn't in New York City?!) 3* read more

Making my way to the strand bookstore I hoped on the subway and this station was the closest to that area. As I exited the train there was a young band playing music inside the station. It was nice to listen to and you couldn't help but to hear it as it echoes throughout the station. They gathered up a nice size crowed and many people listening along--some were dancing. Everyone had a smile on their faces--perhaps it's true that music heals all. While all of that was going on inside there was more entertainment just outside the station. Another large crowd of people watch a man put on a show with help from the audience. There were about five people in the middle and I presume he was going to attempt to jump over all of them. I missed that part as I didn't stay too long in one place. Although it can get crowded it is a very nice and clean place to be. There are also steps that anyone can sit down and have a picnic as there is a whole foods directly across the street. read more

There's a market usually on weekends. A lot is happening in and around. It's located above the train station. This makes it pretty easy to get to. Broadway runs along the east. Well I was justa walkin' down the street just havin' a think & envisioning Androids fighting as my tendancy is to swing a right outta the train & drop in at Forbidden Planet. But before Flash Gordon there was George Washington whose bronze statue stands proudly in the very center of the park. The first statue erected in New York City, the 14th Street viewing point is clearly the best option. As you approach, look just beyond the statue to the horseshoe run of trees as they provide our first President with shelter, replanted just a few years after the statues inception. Planted by --- Olmstead himself, the architect of Central Park in roughly 1845. So much more history surrounds Union Square with four too five towns all converging expanses ending here. read more
