Unison is a San Francisco based company that is pioneering a smarter, better way to own your home. If you believe that marketing I have a igloo in Phoenix to sale to you. Interest rate is 0%, but 3 points, appraisal and title / closing costs billed. The most outrageous is Unison shares in property appreciation or loss in value at time of sale. Typically houses go up hundreds of thousands after many years. It is clearly a smarter way for Unison to take some of your equity without foreclosure. Caveat emptor!

"2nd appraisal necessary due to low value of the first appraisal."

I had questions during application process. Terrible communication and not clear about company goals. Doesn't seem to help consumers.

What a scam! Rather than allow me to replace my roof, they paid down the principal on my original loan.

I've worked the last 15 years as a professional freelance musician and teaching artist, and had never met with a financial adviser, so I came in quite nervous, though eager to learn. Within minutes of our first session, she laid out some excellent core tenets for me to follow, assessed my financial situation, was realistic and transparent, suggested several easy steps for me to start. She did all this while being supportive and encouraging - allowing me space to drop any guilt or shame for having "started late" on things like building retirement savings and investments. She was professional, knowledgeable, kind, and followed up immediately with a write-up with action items for me. Needless to say, I feel infinitely more confident and clear on next steps, and I'm excited to continue working with her. Do yourself a favor and hire Amie for a financial planning meeting! It's one of the most important steps I took in adulthood and you won't be sorry.

My wife and I engaged Amie for financial planning help to get a sense of how far we are from…read moreretirement. We found her super nice to work with, but we also ended up feeling that the service she provided was too simple for our needs. I think the level of detail in her planning would be appropriate for someone who is new to the basics of financial planning, and could be the right choice for clients who might get overwhelmed by too many details. But we ended up not feeling confident in some of her advice because we wanted to get at the underlying details. Here is an example. Aime provided us with a financial calculator to predict whether our portfolio was sufficient to generate sufficient income for retirement. This calculator was based on a single predicted rate of return in the market. We have since learned that such calculators ignore a significant factor, called "Sequence of Return Risk", which are accounted for by other calculators. When I brought this up with Amie, she said she had no objection to us using other calculators, so long as we didn't get overwhelmed. There were a couple of other examples where we would have appreciated more detail. For example, she recommended a 100%/0% stock/bond allocation. Since this is substantially different from typical advice, it would have been nice to hear more justification than she provided. Anyway, I ended up feeling that Amie is a great resource for beginners to get their finances in order. But for people further along, where there are significant risks to making mistakes, the simplicity of her approach may be insufficient.

They are also known as Ameris Bank but they don't service the loans. The actual loan ended up being serviced by Amur Equipment Finance out of Nebraska. The scheme started with a telemarketing call from an account executive called Matthew Kruger to which he guaranteed a competitive interest rate of 6.6% to 7% in providing a 5-year loan. See the text picture from Matthew. Balboa ended up adding a Per Diem charge of .03333% to the monthly payment. The monthly payment actually put the interest rate at 13.423%. My business credit is A-rated so I would have never taken this loan if Matthew would have been honest. I addressed the issue with a Branch Sales Manager Brendan Gibbs to which he continued to defend what is Predatory lending and issued no resolution. This was never explained to me when I signed the lease, and my salesperson, who no longer works there, never told me about this. They claimed to have sent me a reminder letter, but I have no recollection of seeing it. No other leasing company I have worked with have used such deceptive tactics, or tried to force me into an extended term that I never asked for or expected. If the call was based solely on the first agent, I would score it at a -1000. I called concerning a failed purchase with a company that both Affirm, and the company, show as available for Affirm card payments. The agent became very snippy with me and told me no, you cannot use Affirm to buy groceries, even though the major grocery chain was on their list of stores available for purchase. The store also showed Affirm as an accepted payment method. When I asked her to please stop talking over me and raising her voice, she raised her voice and snipped back that she was not raising her voice. Did I mention that she did not greet me at the beginning of the call, and all I heard was loud noise and chatter in the background? Her tone the entire time was snarky and aggressive, and she possessed zero problem solving or de-escalation skills. I was polite, even when I asked her to please stop raising her voice at me. I then asked to speak to a manager or supervisor. She stated that I could not, and to call back and get someone else. I asked, "really? you don't have a single leader that I can speak to?" She again said no. I then stated that I am a call center supervisor (truth), and that this was the worst customer service I had ever experienced (also truth). She then relented and asked me to hold. About five minutes later, she came back and explained that she had a supervisor or the line. The supervisor, Rafael, was calm, and asked me to explain what had happened. Rafael was easy to talk to, and explained why Affirm could not be used at this particular location. He also explained that he would send me an email link that would walk me step-by-step through the process of setting up an Affirm loan without attaching it to a specific retailer, which I received and was able to complete. It's concerning that I had to ask three times to get to someone else to help. The first agent I spoke with should never, ever work in customer service. Imagine if the caller felt too bullied by the agent that they just hung up, or if the caller were elderly or otherwise could not get the agent to listen to them and address their needs. Beware, and be prepared to say "no," and ask for someone higher up the chain if the customer service you receive from Affirm is poor or unhelpful.

An account was opened in my name without my consent, multiple loans were created fraudulently, and despite providing proof and reporting identity theft, I am still being held responsible for a loan I never authorized, opened, or benefited from. Affirm's response to my complaint was dismissive, vague, and failed to address critical evidence of fraud, including impersonation attempts and fraudulent account activity. Their customer service insisted I was responsible while refusing to provide verifiable proof, and their internal verification process remains completely opaque. I would not recommend Affirm to anyone, and I'm warning anyone who values their financial security: this company does not appear to take identity theft or consumer protection seriously.
