    Eggs and Onions!

I've been going to this kosher-style dairy restaurant for decades with my Toronto family. Service is good and fast, the bagels (and my eggs and onions) are really good, and so are their ruggela.

I've been wanting to try United Bakers for a while, as it came highly recommended by many people. I stopped by for a late lunch and were seated quickly but I see why there can be a wait on busier hours. They have a good system in place to keep things organized. My friend and I shared the platter with one scoop each of egg, tuna, potato salad, and coleslaw. The potato salad and coleslaw were good, nothing too exciting. The egg salad was a little bland, but nothing a bit of salt and a tomato couldn't solve. I didn't try the tuna but it looked nice. We also got a latke each. It was okay. I think latke style is up to personal preference and I prefer a crispier one. I also got a strawberry milkshake which was yummy and for only $3.99 I was very happy with it! Overall, the vibe is good and the food is good. I hear the Mac and cheese and pea soup are just try items, but they're not my preference. It was nice.

As one of the oldest restaurants in Toronto (since 1912!), I could see why this diner is an institution in the city and has stood around for so long. Everything from the ambience and service, to the food taste and quality, was 5 out of 5. This restaurant has been able to maintain the old-school diner feel (with the booth-style seatings) without feeling 'dated'. Despite having been around for over a century, it has a somewhat modern and well-kept feel: clean, bright, and spacious inside (with lots of tables and seatings - which might not seem like so from the outside). The front of the restaurant consists of a large take-out counter with ready-made foods (salads, sandwiches, soups) and homemade baked goods that you'd typically find in bakeries (freshly made bread, bagels, sweets). There is an accessible and gender-neutral washroom at the back of the restaurant. Service was very friendly and quick. All of our food came out within 5 minutes. Everything tasted delicious and homemade. I loved the Jewish specialties here, such as Gefilte Fish, Kasha Varnishkes (kasha & bowties on the menu), etc. Dishes that we tried: 1) Shakshouka (eggs poached in a sauce of tomatoes, peppers, olive oil, onion, garlic, cumin, and paprika) - The runny egg yolks and tomato sauce were perfect for dipping the pita bread into. 2) Gefilte Fish (poached mixture of deboned fish and matzo ball, commonly eaten during Sabbath and Passover) - Loved the very soft, velvety texture that reminded me of steamed eggs (but firmer). It contained vegetables (carrot or pepper) inside. 3) Rainbow Trout (topped with toasted almonds and mushrooms, served with bread, cucumber, and tomato) - Favourite dish! Loved the crunchy toasted almonds and mushrooms. 4) Kasha & Bowties - Also commonly known as Jewish Kasha Varnishkes. It consisted of kasha (buckwheat groats), bowtie pasta, sautéed onions. Loved the chewy texture of the kasha, in combination of the somewhat crunchy bowtie pasta and smooth sautéed onions. 5) Shuk Quinoa Salad (quinoa, kale, broccoli, bell peppers, chickpeas, seeds, olive oil, lemon) - Simple and healthy. 6) Israeli Salad (chopped cucumber & tomatoes) - We got this as an add-on to the Rainbow Trout. Nice, light, and refreshing. 7) SIDE: Sautéed Vegetables It's no wonder that this restaurant has so many regulars that keep coming back. We'll certainly be back again!

After the Second Annual Lawrence Plaza Chanukah Extravaganza's Community Candle-Lighting (sponsored by The Song Shul, with community support from UJA Federation of Greater Toronto), we were peckish and decided to have some latkes at United Bakers Dairy Restaurant which is over a century-old. Since 1912, it's been a Toronto tradition, where you'll see family, kids, parents, bubbies, zaydies, friends and community members gather and greet each other with smiles. After being seated, we ordered a bowl of Beet Borscht, Smoked Whitefish Salad Platter, a 2 Eggs All Day Breakfast and Latkes. They ran out of Pea Soup (it's Old World recipe is a family favourite) and Sesame bagels today. We were lucky enough to watch the staff light the store's electric Menorah in the window after sundown, while reciting the blessings. It was a simple ritual, yet a nice reminder of displaying hanukkiyot for publicity, solidarity and the Miracle of Hanukkah. Hanukkah Sameach!

Tuna melt on croissant with coleslaw

Went to united bakers for father's day lunch, and despite it being busy we got a table right away! There's a lot of sitting inside, it's much bigger than it seems from the outside. Everything was so good. Especially the tuna melt on croissant, yum!

    The cheese blintz in question.

I wanted to buy four pieces of cheese blintzes and they wanted to charge me $32! The size of a blintz is regular size, not even a large size. I have noticed the prices have gone way up but the quality has gone down. I really don't like to be gauged! I appreciate the response from Nathan L. However, a cheese blintz is $7.99 a piece Not $6.99 as you stated. Also, calling them "artisanal" doesn't make them more expensive!

Great classic Toronto resturant. Amazing blintzes! Great tuna melts! Epic! Amazing service too! Plus, the fact that this place has been in business close to 100 years lends a epic feeling to it's atmosphere. It's a classic! A must try! Go in person if you can!

100 years of European tradition in North York.

Enjoy the most delicious and authentic European-style bread and pastries of North York. United Bakery is family owned and kept 100 years of traditions. My favourite is the apple ball. Imagine a large and perfectly ripened apple wrapped in a crispy pastry. It's the ultimate casual treat paired with a good cup of coffee.

You can really feel the care and personality behind the space, which added so much to the overall visit. We tried a variety of items, but the Pizza Caesar Wrap was easily the standout and our favourite thing we ate. Crispy, cheesy, messy in the best way, and packed with flavour. Even better, $3 from every wrap goes toward supporting Daily Bread Food Bank through their $30,000 fundraising campaign, which made ordering it feel even more worthwhile. We also really enjoyed the Spicy Ham & Cheese, which had the perfect balance of spicy, creamy, salty, and savoury flavours. The Gourmet French Hot Dog was another highlight with its sweet and savoury flavour combination wrapped in a buttery, flaky croissant. The Four Seasons sandwiches were a fun concept inspired by the Blue Jays, and while the Chef's Choice wasn't our personal favourite, some people at our table enjoyed it more than we did. For dessert, all of the cookies were freshly baked in-house and surprisingly good for a grab-and-go style spot. The double chocolate chip was rich and soft, and the white chocolate cranberry and macadamia cookies were both solid classics. The iced matcha latte with oat milk paired especially well with them, and the iced vanilla latte was smooth and easy to drink. The space itself is bright and open with big windows that bring in lots of natural light during the day. Seating is cozy, but the layout still feels spacious and comfortable overall. Overall, a playful comfort food spot that offers catering with genuinely friendly service, creative menu items, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to come back.

I got 3 sandwiches for me and my family (4 people including me). What we ordered: Mona Lisa: 8/10 For both of the sandwiches the bread was very fresh and delicious! They make them fresh for each order and you can taste the quality. The flavours in the Mona Lisa worked really well together, I loved the truffle cream and burrata. Torino: 7/10 This sandwich was also good, but the I felt like it was lacking something, especially compared to the mona lisa. The spicy eggplant just tasted like plain pickled eggplant and wasn't that spicy. I feel like both sandwiches were a bit salty due to the prosciutto, and were missing some sweet or acidic element. I added some balsamic glaze and hot honey at home which was great! The portion sizes are HUGE, the 4 of us were quite full after splitting the 3.

Opened in Feb 2025, the sandwich shop is set to expand opening a second location near Dundas and Ossington sometime this year. They are open daily from 11am to 5pm where you can pre-order off Ambassador for pick up or opt for delivery with Ubereats. When Ariete E Toro first opened last year, I recall seeing the long lines as it became super popular. Fast forward to a year later, I finally tried Ariete E Toro recently. The storefront is on a side street off of Yonge St. where it is take out only. They do have a bench near the window/entrance of the store but usually it's utilized by people waiting for their sandwiches. In the summer though, they have a small patio in front of the shop with some tables and chairs. Menu wise, Ariete E Toro has a variety of sandwiches with ingredients that work well together. You are also able to build your own sandwich if you'd like. They also have beverages like soda and water as well. The store boasts that all their ingredients are high quality. An average price of a sandwich is around $17. I decided to pre-order 2 sandwiches for pick up. These are the two sandwiches I got: - Enzo (mortadella di bologna, pistachio pesto, stracciatella cheese, chopped pistachio, lemon and basil oil). - Rogo Rogo (prosciutto cotto, 'nduja cream, smoked provolone, caramelized onion, arugula, and brown butter vinaigrette) Entering the store to pick up my order, staff were amidst completing my sandwiches. There was already a regular there chatting with staff. Service was quick. My sandwiches were packed and I had half of each at home. The size of the sandwich was pretty big! I could only finish 3/4th of the sandwich. Both the Enzo and the Rogo Rogo were tasty but the Enzo stole the show. The moist bread with the mortadella where the pistachio pesto and hint of stracciatella cheese along with a slight crunch from the chopped pistachio made for a perfect sandwich (I do prefer the bread a bit harder and crunchier though but the texture of this one was still good). I was sharing the sandwiches with my partner and as he opened the packaging he noticed a piece of hair in the sandwich. I would have given a higher rating on Yelp but finding someone else's hair in your food is off-putting. I do hope that if I return next time (either to this location or to their new location near Ossington/Dundas) that we won't find any surprises in our food. Overall, delicious sandwiches in Midtown Toronto, however, we did find a piece of hair in our sandwiches which.... kind of makes me hesitant to return. **Update** - I wrote a review on Google where the owner personally asked me to email them to rectify the situation with the piece of hair found in my sandwich. The owner apologized and stated that he was actually the one who personally made my sandwich that day (sliced the deli meat, etc.). He also made sure that he would speak with the bread manufacturer to make sure that they were aware of the situation as it may have come from the bread as well. He also gave me a refund for one sandwich as well as a $25 credit for if I wanted to give the sandwich spot another chance (the sandwich is too good to not go back!). That is what I call great customer service - making sure that an apology was given and that customers are happy. Would happily return again for their tasty sandwiches!!

Presentation: Each sandwich comes in a snazzy box perfect for keeping the sandwich intact Space: Clean shop, more of a take out spot, with just one bench by the windows for seating Service: Quick and efficient - no line when I went right at opening on a Sunday.
