Absolutely loved the chicken breast sandwich I got from this spot. Very reasonable price, bread was perfectly soft, and the flavors and textures were phenomenal. Plenty of seats around in the market, too. Super glad I ended up choosing this spot, would absolutely return!
I think I've found my new addiction. It's called the tunacado sandwich (their latest drug here) and it's been haunting my mind day and night since I first tried it. I've consumed it 3 times in the last 3 consecutive days, and the craving IS. NOT. ABATING. I really should try to cut down and control myself but the dealer is so sweet and nice and made me feel like family when I met her. Honestly, this thing is quite healthy with a great balance of protein, veggies, and carbs, plus it's been extremely helpful for my mental well-being. Other than short term drowsiness and long term weight gain, the side effects are not too bad either. All things considered, there are much worse addictions and everyone needs a vice, so I'll be keeping this as mine for a while longer. Disclaimer: The above is only half serious, please don't report this place.
The Chef's Choice sandwich is always my go to here, filled with delicious toppings like pesto, avocado, crispy onions, and juicy chicken, and super filling!
I was walking up Yonge Street and wanted to grab a quick lunch, so Grandma Loves You seemed like a perfect choice. (I'd been wanting to try their food for a while.) I was tempted by a bunch of their offerings but I had to go with the Chefs Choice ("Grilled chicken strips, avocado, tomato, hot pepper, fresh onion, olives, crispy onion, pesto sauce and Grandma's homemade hot sauce"). (When in doubt, always go with something featuring the restaurant's name or the word chef in it.) It was ready about 10 minutes after I ordered it and it's a solid sandwich. Though none of the individual components are anything too special (i.e. I'd be very surprised to learn that they cooked that chicken themselves), everything works quite well together. It's just a solid, flavorful sandwich. (The doughy, chewy bread wasn't great, though, since it meant the components kept getting squished out of the sandwich. A soft roll would've been far more appropriate.)
Bustlng location doesn't take away from the warm hill vibe the place has with it's indoor and outdoor seating.. Large menu offers something for everyone, savoury and sweet options. The family vlends their Armenian roots with their Iranian and German culture.and the result is some original flavour combos and high quality German Rye and fresh bread for their sandwiches, and and hot dogs.
The service was so friendly that it seemed like I was just part of the fam the moment I stepped in. Friendly faces all around. I was walked through on the selections and even some great recommendations! The place is welcoming and bright and the chairs are comfortable. I decided on an iced coffee with caramel, french dog, German ham salad and I had to try that white chocolate cranberry cookie. The hot dog had me wanting to stand on the lovely chairs and yell "Viva La France!" The hot dog was amazing and the combination was smart. The melty Brie took it home for me. The salad was delicious as well. That cookie was just the perfect finish for the meal. You must give this place a try.
Best sandwich shop in Toronto! My go to is the spicy ham and cheese sub! It is so delicious (crispy onions are soooooo good!). Service is also great staff is very knowledgeable about the menu.
Made a visit with a friend yesterday (Saturday) evening at 5pm. There were 2 people ahead of us waiting on their orders. It's tucked in the inner corner of a plaza, steps away from what seems to be a brand new Starbucks. A block away from Rosedale Station. Inside there's very limited single person high seating, 4 bar-style stools if I recall correctly. Came because of the hype and definitely felt grandma's love. I ordered the meatball & cheese, and end to end of the sub was a huge meatball? Meatloaf? It tasted great. I've been craving a meatball marinara sub from subway for a long, long time. Unfortunately, this was not a good replacement and did not hit the spot - this one was a bit salty with the vegetables not helping to balance the flavour. But, it was still good and a great portion. I don't really buy sandwiches so I think the portion:price ratio was good (I ordered the 6-inch). Would LOVE to come back and try their hot dogs and other sandwiches.
"A champion of hospitality" is the word that describes this place for me. Once you interact with Sarah the owner, you know what I mean. Welcoming, commitment to making their customers happy, unique/superb food, and super reasonable price for the size and quality - all makes sense that Grandma Loves You has been raved by so many people! I went shortly after they opened for the day. I saw several people already there before me, picking-up orders and eating/waiting for food in their outdoor eating space. I got: - Spicy Ham Sandwich - French dog - Meatball and cheese sandwich. Spicy Ham Sandwich had generous layers of ham, tomato, Jalapeno, Crispy Onion, fresh diced red onion, lettuce, and homemade hot sauce. The bread had crispy skin with a light & fluffy interior that absorbs the ingredients' moisture and flavor without getting soggy. Biting into it, I knew that this place knows the best bread-meat-garnish ratio and texture contrast. The Meatball and Cheese sandwich used a different bread - a softer one that embraces tender meatballs, the perfect amount of homemade tomato sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato & fresh onion. Again, this bread did not allow these rich ingredients to overwhelm the bread's quality. Harmonious. I enjoyed the different textures of the bread that they use. The French dog - OMG as many other reviewers say, is innovative and opens up a new hotdog world. Generous amount of brie with blueberry jam - OK I see brie and jam everywhere, but with wiener sandwiched in a croissant? Never thought of that and it was so good! While I was waiting for the order outside, people started to line up and the place got very, very busy! But when my order was ready, she came out with my food so pleasantly. When she saw I had no big bag, then she went into the busy store again to get me a bag for take-out. GLY is a small place in the corner of a busy plaza, without no fancy signs or interior decorations. But you are guaranteed to have a superb meal and customer services that make your day!
Came on a week day during lunch and it was busy! Which is a great sign except for the wait. Took about 20min to get our sandwiches and they tasted great. We tried the chef choice which was their signature hot sandwich and the spicy ham and cheese. The chef choice came with chicken, avocado, bacon and all the veggies. The spicy ham and cheese was good too. Came with a bunch of crispy onions and it wasn't too spicy for us. We enjoyed the ham and cheese more. Overall we would come back and try the other items on the menu. They have other interesting hot dogs and other hot sandwiches that look good!
This review is similar to my recent Yelp elite experience here, except that I bought a chocolate banana red fruit croissant. I felt grandma's love when I dropped by this eatery just after noon today. I love grandma right back! I haven't dropped by the Summerhill area for years. I have had Grandma Loves You (GLY) flagged on my to-visit list for a while. It was a dream come true to finally come here today. Driving southbound along Yonge Street, I took one look at the small parking lot in the tiny plaza where GLY was and knew that there was no way that I was going to find a parking spot there. There are essentially three spots for customers. Instead, I parked on Gibson Avenue, which is the street south of where GLY is. It was free. I do appreciate growing up in Toronto and learning how to parallel park in tight spots in the Beaches. That experience instantly came in handy when I parked here. I walked in and was warmly greeted by Sarah, one of the co-owners. She took my name down and was so nice. She said to help myself to a drink because it was a hot day. Wow! It was such an unexpected gesture. The perk was to pick up two hot dogs: - French - Sweden You could make substitutions. I wanted to give both a try as a newbie. I have yet to have met a hot dog that I didn't enjoy eating. Sarah asked whether I wanted the French hot dog in a regular bun or croissant. OMG! Croissant all the way! She said that she'd bring the food out to me and that I could find a spot outside on the patio. I found a table and my food came moments later. The place was busy at lunch time, but the wait wasn't horrible. The French hot dog looked so classy and amazing. The hot dog was yummy and juicy. The slab of brie was generous and paired so nicely with the naturally sweet blueberries. The croissant was flaky and perfect. It was excellent! I couldn't eat the Sweden hot dog because I was stuffed from the French one! Instead, I had it when I got home. The crispy fried onions were awesome on it! It was divine. Huge fan! Sarah came out to chat with me. I loved how she wants to make sure that you are enjoying your meal. I tried to tip her and she didn't want any of it. This moment felt like being with family. I managed to get my tip in by buying a chocolate banana red fruit croissant that Artin, the other co-owner and Sarah's hubby, brought over to me. Delicious! I don't think there's anything on the menu that sucks. There was a single chocolate chunk cookie in the display case, which signalled to me that this place makes excellent goodies. A few months ago, my friend and I asked whether we could be adopted on GLY's Instagram account. I felt that I became an adopted member today simply chatting with Sarah. She has such a warm spirit and such a giving heart. I was honoured to have met her today. I had an excellent first-time experience at this eatery today. I can't wait to return and try more yummy sandwiches off the menu. (268)
Grandma is weird, and I dig it! While the dogs themselves are just ok (would have liked them a bit fatter and more juicy for that price), Grandma shows her love with everything else that's on them. Hotdog in a croissant with blueberry jam and brie? I dunno why, but it was delicious! How about overload a hotdog with sweet mango, contrast that with sweet chili sauce, and drown it in goat cheese? Yes please! After my wife and I wolfed the dogs down, we sent a couple of pictures and descriptions to friends, and all of them were like WTF. And we assured them - sounds weird and wacky, yes, but everything worked really well and tasted wonderful. Thanks Grandma! ps: As we were getting ready to leave, we saw they also have daily one-off specials. The Japan dog on Thursday piqued my interest. I asked the lovely owner what that was about, and she said it was hotdog with teriyaki sauce, avocado and seaweed. Yup, will definitely be back.
Ok this is the best sandwich I've had in Toronto. The flavor burst of Avocadoes, fried chicken, crispy bits and also the juicy sauces. If in around St Claire, I'm coming here without a doubt. If you are looking for the biggest, most flavorful and delicious sub you have to go to Grandma Loves You. I literally have nothing to say bad about this place, because that is how much I love their food. The menu is huge with so many varieties of subs/sandwiches to choose from, truly all of them are the best. The staff is so kind and are very welcoming, they allow you to modify the sandwich in case there is anything you don't want on it. There is also a lot of seating for you to come in and eat as well, incase you did not want to take out. Now onto the sandwiches! I kid you not, the bread here is the most softest, fresh bread which also does not get soggy with all the toppings/sauces that get put on it. And then all the toppings that get added are super fresh. These sandwiches truly are addicting but also worth the money! I will always go back for the Chef's Choice sub which comes with: Grilled Chicken Strips, Avocado, Tomato, Hot Pepper, Fresh Onion, Olives, Crispy Onion, Pesto Sauce & Grandma's Homemade Hot Sauce. Grandma Loves You has been on my radar for awhile. I've seen pictures of their croissants and they just look delectable and ready to bite into. When Yelp had an Elite experience to try 2 hot dogs, I jumped on the chance to go so I could also try their croissants. My partner and I came after work and got the 2 Yelp experience hotdogs (check out my review there for a review of the dogs...all I'll say here is that they aren't your average hot dog!) At the counter, they have a little tray of donuts. I was a little sad because I thought I had missed my croissant opportunity, but was so happy to learn that they were available, just not on display b/c they're made fresh to order! We ate on their adorable little covered patio out front. The croissants were brought out to us, and although we took them home to eat, I snuck a peak. They looked SO GOOD! I got the German chocolate and banana, and my partner got the pistachio, honey and banana. This wasn't on their menu and was either new or a special, I can't recall. When we got home and had our sweet treats, I was so happy. It was the perfect amount of sweetness. The croissant was light and fluffy, but didn't just fall apart when you ate it. The fresh banana was such a perfect combo. It brought be back to Europe, sitting in a fancy little pastry shop. Check out their website. I loved hearing the story about the owners having a Grandma Loves You in Europe, and then moving their family to Canada to open the Canadian one. I had the luck of being invited by my more elite other half to enjoy some fancy hotdogs here. We cycled from the west end of the city so we were hungry and there was plenty of parking ;) We walked right past the place a couple of times because we were looking for "Grandma Loves You" but the sign features "European Deli" in bigger letters and so like a couple of dummies that' s all we saw. We had two styles of dogs, The French and The German. The German was classically dressed with mustard onions and a crisp fresh layer of sauerkraut. Very yum. The French dog was another story. It came on a croissant, and was dressed with thick slices of brie and a slather of blueberry jam. I am a fan of sweet/savory combos so this was super tasty. I wouldn't say the combination of tastes melded into a singular experience - it is more like the sausage, brie and jam wrestle for supremacy in your mouth. One moment it's salty hot dog, the next it's sweet jam, the next it's creamy sharp pungent cheese. The people who run this place are super friendly and take pride in what they are serving. We are definitely going to drop in and sample their other wares soon. read more

Came here with a friend because truthfully... I wanted to order more menu items and needed someone to help me eat it :") This place has been on my list for a long time as I see so many great photos on Instagram. Instagram photos seriously SELL ME on going to new restaurants. My friend and I tried the French Dog and Sweden. Sweden Dog - the fried onions on top were plentiful, light, and crispy. It was a delightful texture to go with the ultra juicy hot dog. There were also thin slices of pickles to balance all the fried onions. I normally dislike pickles, but I think it went very well here. French Dog - my friend tried to remove the brie cheese, but since it melted, he was forced to eat it. He was glad he did! At first he was hesitant and thought the jam + brie would be a weird combo for a hotdog, but we both LOVED IT! This hot dog was actually my favourite of the 2 because the melted brie was so creamy and blended in with the jam. It wasn't "too sweet" or "fruity" at all. The cheese and jam really melded together to make the juicy hot dog even juicier. Overall, I definitely believe these are the best hot dogs in Toronto. I wish they were closer to where I lived so I could come more often, however the trek is worth it. I look forward to coming back and eventually trying their whole menu. I went to a Yelp event here a few months ago and couldn't stop thinking about their sandwich. This time I tried their chefs choice which is a hot chicken sandwich with avocado, onions, hot peppers and sauce. It was delicious. I do prefer the cold cut one though. Nevertheless the sandwich was loaded. I got a 12" which is plenty for lunch and dinner. read more
Grandma Loves You is located about a 3 min walk from Rosedale subway station where you can find the shop in a corner of a small plaza with a Starbucks and Pizza Hut. Although I'm pretty sure this shop gets overpowered by the coffee shop next door, don't underestimate their offerings. I've actually passed by Grandma Loves You many many times and never realized it was there until now. So glad I was able to try 2 of their gourmet hot dogs for a Yelp Elite event (and saw other Elite Yelpers as well!). I stopped by Grandma Loves You on a Thurs afternoon after work ~5pm. The shop is simple and Sarah, one of the owners, was incredibly welcoming and friendly. I felt as though I was talking to an old friend that I came by to visit. She discussed all the hot dogs available and told me about their top selling dog, the French dog. She was even nice enough to think about how I wanted to take my Yelp pictures (so nice!). Due to pandemic restrictions, Grandma Loves You currently has a small makeshift patio in the parking lot with umbrellas where you can enjoy your hot dogs. The hot dogs take ~10 min to make where Sarah will bring them out to you. Overall, the hot dogs were unique! I opted to get the French dog and the USA dog. The combination of the sausage with the brie cheese and blueberry jam in a croissant bun definitely is new! Something I've never tried before. They also traveled well as I returned home to eat them. The sandwiches and hotdogs here are European themed, which is a very unique to the regular types of sandwiches you can find in Toronto at Druxys/Subway etc. The hotdog flavors are so unique like the German Dog, Italy Dog, Greek Dog, French Dog, Sweden Dog etc all containing the flavors country they're honoring. The ratios are probably one of the best parts the sandwiches. It isn't a bread overload, there's a hefty portion veggies and protein with each sandwich, and sauce to accent. What alot of people prefer is the hot dogs, and although the flavors as previously mentioned are very unique and tasty, the only reason I didn't give 5/5 is because the base hotdogs are all the same regular weiners. Some other gourmet hotdogs have different protein and meat based sausages/weiners which would push these over the top. read more

Finally checked out Grandma Loves You and i have to say I LOVE YOU TOOOOO! They have some really good stuff, from fusion hot dogs to huge sandwiches to all kinds of baked goods! What i ordered: Japan dog French dog Chocolate bar milkshake The Japan dog is the newest addition to their grilled hot dog menu. Made to order grilled beef dog topped with cucumber, avocados, seaweed and sesame seeds. The teriyaki sauce and wasabi sauce adds the perfect touch. And the French dog OMG. Brie cheese with french jam in a crispy crossiant/bun (your choice). I cant even choose a favourite between these two!!!! Last but not least, choose ur favourite chocolate bar and turn it into a milkshake. Wraps up my delicious meal. Gotta come back and try the other sandwiches next time! read more

After the Yelp Elite event, I had to come by for more! The sandwiches are amazing. This time I ordered the turkey bacon and cheese, as well as the gourmet French dog. The turkey bacon and cheese was packed with so many ingredients! The gourmet French dog was the first experience I had with a sausage in a croissant. And it worked so well! In between some Brie cheese and blueberry jam.. so savoury and sweet at the same time. Every bite was satisfying here. read more

They have European-themed sandwiches & hotdogs. Had the French Gourmet hot dog (gourmet hot dogs come in a croissant they bake). It came with brie & blueberry jam. It came with a crazy amount of brie & the jam was tasty. The sausage was great too. Got given a chocolate chip cookie. It was good: rich & chewy, with a lot of chocolate chips. The stuff on the boards is their popular items, not daily specials (as the days of the week would seem to suggest). read more

Sometimes it's the simplest foods that taste the greatest. A hot dog or a sub sandwich aren't usually thought of as luxury or comfort foods, but they're treated as such here. Over multiple visits here, I've had the chance to try two hot dogs (French and Swedish), and two subs (German ham and cheese, Italian salami and cheese), each being unique and absolutely delicious. The hot dogs take you to different parts of the world. Ever thought of putting blueberry jam with brie on a hot dog and using a croissant as the bun? Try it with the French, and it won't disappoint you. As for the subs, they're simply loaded and very flavourful. You'll be full by the time you finish the sandwich, but yet you'll still be left wanting more. This is a place you need to try if you haven't already.
