I enrolled my child in the Little Dragons Taekwondo program to enforce not only what he was learning in kindergarten but, more importantly, what he wasn't learning in his first year at a K-12 school. My son needed a system of principles to use as his toolkit in dealing with everyday school life and expectations. He was feeling overwhelmed by class activities that weren't necessarily to his liking and dealing with feelings of not having enough playtime and movement throughout the day, especially as an energetic little boy in a small classroom. Equally important, we wanted our child to learn self-defense so he could learn the skills of leadership and denounce the behavior of future bullies he may encounter. Master Danielle and her team have been important advocates in this process, from reaching out to teachers as important and resourceful support personnel to developing strategies that work individually with my child to meet his needs with clear goals and expectations. As a parent, you can always consult with Master Danielle for a progress follow-up and expect a prompt response with the utmost care and concern. She has worked extensively with many children from all different backgrounds and educational needs and has a talent for compassionately observing and identifying both strengths and weaknesses to create her own plan of improvement. UMAC also has a school pickup program, and this is a fantastic option for parents, working or stay-at-home with other little ones, who are seeking additional support for after-school care or a schedule that organizes their child's time effectively while prioritizing both school and martial arts learning. Parents and children will become like a family of their own, and the excitement when everyone sees one another for instruction is heartwarming! Martial Arts training is only as effective as the trainer. Master Ed at UMAC Goshen (Soon to be UMAC Middletown) excels at his ability in Martial Arts, but equally excels in sharing that ability with his students. We tried a number of Martial Arts Schools over the years and my painfully shy son needed an instructor that could teach well, but also pick up on his personality and needs. After he attended a birthday in October 2017, I signed him up. He didn't go willingly the first day, but I knew by his reaction to the party that it would be a great thing for him. I was right. Since October my son has learned to feel good about himself, to find confidence and strength in what he is capable of and to feel proud about his accomplishments. Having an instructor that accepts, relates to and understands each child's varied abilities, strengths and personalities means everything. I have to call this family of martial arts masters the Incredibles. I've watched them consistently grow in knowledge, skill level, teaching ability and love for the members of their school. They are always looking for better ways to improve their members lives and experience at their school. We enrolled our son in the Dragon's class at the Warwick UMAC after a friend mentioned that her son was enjoying the classes. We have been very pleased with the instructors and the structure of the class. Our son has really enjoyed it and has been engaged from the very first class. The instructors are friendly and take a genuine interest in the children which makes it easy for them to want to join in and do well. My six year old son LOVES coming here. He is very energetic, and he has so much fun during class. The instructors are so incredibly kind and patient with him. The values that they teach and go over every class are so important to instill in a child. My oldest son previously attended camp at UMAC and now takes martial arts classes 2x/week. I wanted to train with him, so I enrolled and have been taking classes for the past month as well. All of the instructors are excellent! Master Danielle and her staff are incredible at teaching children - they make learning FUN and engaging. United Martial Arts Center is an awesome place to connect with your inner you! The martial arts training is combined with meditation and stretching exercises that help develop the mind as much as the body. I have been training there for about a year and a half. I have lost over 70 pounds and an steadily regaining muscle strength. I look forward to training after work each day more than anything else. My daughter is 3.5 years old and has started practicing taekwondo this year at her preschool with Master Nicole. She loved it and wanted to do more. Since breaking her first board and earning her white belt she has been hooked! This week she will be earning her yellow belt. UMAC of Warwick is a great part of the community. Our child has participated in the summer camp program, the classes as well as the "school is closed what do you do with your kid today" programs.
