It's very clear that the staff there are all genuinely passionate and knowledgeable about woodworking. I love that they always ask, "What project are you working on?" Maybe it's a just savvy sales technique, but it always comes across as genuine curiosity. The store has everything from an incredible selection of hardware, much of which you can't find anywhere else, to all sorts of exotic woods, to multi-thousand dollar power tools. It's great to have a store like this so close to home.

The store usually has what we need and the discount carts always makes us spend more than we had…read moreplanned for the trip :) There is plenty of parking and the staff does a great job keeping the lot clear of cart and flat beds. When we enter the store, there always seems to be clustered chaos by the customer service desk, not sure why, but sometimes it's kind of in the way of guests trying to pass by. We have always had to try to find things on our own, but it would be nice if there was a staff member available to help for finding obscure things. We typically got to the Paint desk and that person has to radio for help. We wish the online product information for the local store stock was more accurate, but I know that may be hard to track in real time. We always use self-check out and the staff there is very attentive and on the spot to help and or clean the station after each use. It's a fine place to go if you're in the area.

Ferguson laid off our favorite advisor when we were renovating our home in Kennebunk, ME, leaving…read moreus with another advisor who knew nothing about our project and was lackluster about what we needed, and slow to return our calls and emails. The advisor they laid off had been with us from the beginning, doing the walk through of our house, making many very helpful recommendations. She was very available when we needed her, showing us around the Portsmouth, NH showroom. She had a lot of valuable experience to bear. If some follow up products were needed she had them delivered efficiently! After she was gone we wanted to return some items that we no longer needed, but Ferguson refused, even though they were still in their original packaging. Fortunately for her she was immediately hired by F.W. Webb. Unfortunately for us, we no longer had a Ferguson staff member who demonstrated interest in our project.

This was a very nice two floor display of different fixtures from the basic to the sublime. We were able to order what we needed and our plumber picked it up two weeks later. And, if I go to one, I usually end up going to the other immediately afterward to see if they have what I was looking for if the other didn't, so I think I've done this mash-up to myself. Things I like about the Brighton location: 1. It's always less busy than the other location. 2. The parking lot is less chaotic as a result. 3. When "the mall" location is out of something specific (like the white ceramic allen + roth indoor planter I'd like ALL my flora friends to be in), Brighton usually has it. 4. I don't know if they're actually smaller than "the mall" location, but they've got an impressive selection of outdoor plants (flowers, herbs, veggies) in Spring/Summer. 5. I think the staff here is nicer. Things I like about both locations: 1. Using the outside register. Things I don't like about either locations: 1. They're horrible inside registers (both the self check-out and the ones with people). Things I like about Lowe's in general: I think Lowe's as a corporate brand does a good job at seasonality. Unlike Walmart, the Dollar Tree, and even Target who, for example, have their back-to-school stuff up by early July and have already transitioned completely away from anything summer/patio/gardening, Lowe's doesn't. I called White Mountain Lumber to compare prices. I got Evie(super cute!) on the phone and when she gave me the price, I almost fainted! Buying it at White Mountain lumber paid for my gas on one trip from Manchester to Berlin, a trip I was frequently making at the time. Then it dawned on me. With Berlin quickly becoming a tourist destination with the 1000 mile Ride the Wilds" trail system exploding in popularity, people are traveling there from all over New England with trailers behind their trucks and SUV's. You are also only minutes from the Appalachian Trail, great fishing, jaw dropping scenery, kayaking, snowmobiling - the Berlin area has it all! First step in, I love it! Tons of people helping customers find what they are looking for. As soon as I walked in someone asked if they could help me with anything, and they quickly made my keys for me. I spent time picking out key covers and carabiners.
