So, you should go at least once. If you didn't grow up here, thereby never going to the Mint on a field trip, you can spare an hour at the Mint. Took my crew, the high point for them was def the free shiny quarter. At one point the five year old whispers to me "when do we get to the ride?". I'm not sure how she got this impression but she seemed to think there was a tiny amusement park tucked away inside this place. Anywho, she was disappointed, but only for a minute. Def make your reservation online as it would suck to get there and find that there are no tours available! as a side note, it wasn't uber kid friendly, I guess because mine were the only ones in the group and we kept getting shushed which I can only tolerate so much of. It was really nice to hear the history and see some things but what you can see is very limited or is a picture of it. Unfortunately you don't really get to see much of the minting process but our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. Would I go again, maybe not but I'm sure glad I went in the first place. An OK tour - sadly you just do not see that much. Tour guides do a good job and show excitement. Very tight security and YOU MUST READ your notice of confirmation so you take only what is allowed, no exceptions. MUST go online and RSVP prior to your visit, often a 2-6 week wait. Kids will enjoy more than adults. Each guest is given a new penny. Plan to stand in line 30 minutes OUTSIDE prior to your 40 minute tour. DO NOT be late and miss your slot. read more

My husband and I showed up at 6:50 am to reserve an entry to this place, however given that it's summer there was already many people in line. We were turned away as the museum had already reached their maximum reservations. We showed up the next day at 5:00am to make sure we had a spot reserved for the day. There was already 3 people in line by the time we arrived. The wait was completely worth it, as you get a free penny and a blank penny as a souvenir, you see coins being made, and the tour guide is very informative. Only thing I wish we could have stayed longer to read all the placards for every machinery/historical item. Lastly, make sure to check the website for personal items are allowed inside as you have to go through a thorough screening prior to going in the museum. read more

An interesting place to take the kids. My 6 yr old really enjoyed it...although of course his favorite part was getting the latest quarter in the state quarter collection. There's a very specific list of do's and don'ts as far as what you can bring in...so make sure you know it BEFORE you get there, because there is nowhere to stash your belts, cell phones, anything bigger than a wallet, etc, etc. Also tours book up several weeks (months?) in advance in the summer. You can get same day tickets if you show up first thing in the morning...but not necessarily at a time that will suit your schedule. read more

This tour was without a doubt a highlight of my visit to Denver. It was not on my radar, my bro had mentioned doing it, and I was not disappointed. I would highly recommend checking it out. HEY KID, YOU WANT TO GO SEE HOW MONEY IS MADE?!? AND NOT JUST BORING PAPER MONEY, BUT COINS!! THE THINGS YOUR THROW IN THE FOUNTAIN AND THAT JINGLE IN YOUR POCKET!!! THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!! Well, be prepared for the biggest disappointment since finding out Ellen was gay..... Had to make a reservation about 2 months in advance. Not a huge deal, but a little surprised by the demand. They tell you to arrive 30 mins ahead of your tour time, you go through some lame TSA style security, then you sit in some waiting area with slightly boring exhibits. The tour is fairly short and fairly boring. The operations all take place on the floor below, and you are very disconnected from all the 'action'. The coin making process is distant and you can't see a damn thing. There are a few interesting tidbits you hear, but overall its boring. They mention that they have a bunch of gold bars hidden in some vault there, but they won't tell you where and they def won't let you see it. Oh, and if you are thinking that this would be fun for kids, think again. Its boring for adults and has to be really bad for little people (I'm talking about children, not midgets you weirdo!). I guess I should have known better. This is run by the Federal Government, pretty sure these guys could make a Vegas strip club boring. read more

Got here at noon, was able to get tickets for the 2:00 pm tour. Security process was straightforward, just read the website for prohibited items. Tour guide, Maria, seemed newer and maybe was working on her tour narrative flow but overall she was pretty good. Great experience, got to see some coins in production. Special shout out to the US Mint Police, they shadowed the group the entire time to make sure no one veered off. Jovial group of guys, had a good chat plus many of them worked there for years and were also very knowledgable on the Mint. Highly recommend the tour if you've got time to kill in Denver. read more

Visiting from California, paid $8 to park then walk in 90 degree weather to finally arrive to the Denver Mint to find out that it's reservation only. Before our trip we tried to make reservations online, but had trouble doing it so we thought hopefully we could get in. Couldn't. So then we went into the gift shop to then get nasty service by the girl at the counter. She was so rude to us. We had a great expereince at the mint today. We arrived at the office at 6:30am to stand in line. Tickets were handed out at 7:00am. There were four tours available with 50 people allowed in each tour. We were told that earlier tours were less busy. After the security check we waited for a few minutes for the tour to start and looked at some exhibits. The tour was interesting and all of the employees were engaged and enthusiastic. Here's what the website DOESN'T tell you. If you don't bring a print-out of that E:mail you got months ago - you're not going to get to go on the tour. I was infuriated. We drove for hours, planned the whole day around the visit. Kindergarten curriculum has many lessons about money for math and I thought getting to see where they made money would be fun. Nope, instead it turned into a lesson in the callous, inefficiency of government. I even tried to call the US Mint Denver Public Affairs office to suggest they add a paragraph on the website about 'Visiting the Denver Mint" but leave it to the US Mint Denver location to have a public affairs office where not one person picks up the phone. (Cause you just know it had to be that way!) Fellow yelpers - SKIP this stop during your time in Denver. It's just not worth it and there are too many other fun things to do! read more

The Denver Mint should be avoided. The only positive thing I can say about my visit is that it was free. The staff is very tightly wound to the point that they are rude and uncaring. The tour leader talks a mile a minute, intent on completing the tour as fast as he can, evidently he does not enjoy being there and is paid by the number of words he can blurt out. CAUTION READ BELOW IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO GET IN: We were denied entry on 2 attempts. Something that impossible to get into when your on vacation is just ridiculous. First attempt, we walked by the place and they are APPT ONLY. What kind of place has that for a museum. Very annoying, but we decided to book an appointment anyway. We called at 8:45 a.m. and they had appts for later in the day but we couldn't do it as we were busy. I called back at 9:45, 11 a.m., 1 p.m. 2 p.m. and got nobody on the phone just a voicemail. Finally at like 2:45 p.m. i got someone on the phone to book an appointment for the following day. We took the appt. at 8:30 a.m. The man on the phone told us not to bring any weapons of any sorts and a few other things (he did not mention that it was not okay to bring purses). Then we got in line and waited like 20 or so minutes as a guard who was going to let us in sat out there talking to people about what we could or could not bring in. He did not mention purses in his speech. In fact he seemed a bit clueless as to what could or could not be brought in to the place. Our hotel was a 15 mins walk away. We could have run back to the hotel to drop of the purse. You can see where i'm going with this. In any case we walked up to the same guy who was now taking confirmation #'s and he said i'm sorry mam no purses are allowed. I asked him why he didn't mention this to us when we were sitting in line starring at him with 10 other people. He had no response and didn't apologize. I asked him if they could just hold onto the purse while we were on the tour. He said no. I asked him if i could run to our hotel and drop it off real quick and come back in 15 mins and join the tour wherever they are at and just miss 15 mins. He said no. We left. We will never visit that place. Between the man on the phone who could have given me that NO PURSE information and the officer standing outside not telling us anything while i could have run back to the hotel, we just said this place is run by idiots. I'm sure it's nice inside but is it worth the hassle? If you really want to get inside bring nothing with you except car keys and your smile and a confirmation number. Even then you might not get in if you look funny, smell funny, or have too many piercings to count on one hand. Oh and they allow wallets in for men and not purses for women (SEXISM ANYONE?) 5 of us took the tour yesterday. It was quite interesting. The tour guide was entertaining, making the tour enjoyable for the wide variety of ages present. The guards were very polite and efficient. You do go through a metal detector. You cannot bring in handbags, backpacks, etc. If it fits in your pocket that's ok. Whatever you have in your pockets does get scanned--just like at the airport. No cameras, no pictures. This is a very secure facility and they want to keep it that way. Some of the reviews here seem to be talking about the Federal Reserve where the paper money is. The Mint is where the coins are produced. The tour is about 45 minutes long. You do NOT get to walk through on your own. You are escorted in a group by the tour guide and 3 guards. I was a bit frustrated with the reservation system, thinking that we were not going to be able to set the tour up. Needed an afternoon time slot which wasn't being offered. BUT, checking 2 days before, the 2PM time slot was finally available. Don't give up if you don't see what you need. Be aware, you do need to be there 30 minutes before the tour starts so that everyone can go through the metal detector. You will wait outside the gates until that 30 minute mark. If you are early, go into the store. There are plenty of parking lots in the surrounding blocks. read more

We got in line at 6:00 am to get tickets and were 8th in line. We had quite a line behind us by the time they started handing out tickets, so I'm glad we didn't get there much later. We drove up from Colorado Springs (1 1/2 hour) paid $16 for parking) to be told you can't do a self guided tour. The web-site doesn't state that. They were out of tour tickets. You can NOT reserve them in advance. The gift shop had a "lucky penny" key chain for $5, made in China. We had lunch ($85) then drove back. Filling the gas tank $33. They make money here. Just coins. They have a little store where you can buy cool collectible coins, if you like that sort of thing. You probably do. Otherwise you probably wouldn't be looking to go to the mint. They got T-shirts, hats and a bunch of touristy souvenirs. The reason I give only three stars is I drove all the way there twice and still haven't gotten into the Mint. They have several tours all day but the tickets go fast as fudge. Both times I went they were out of tickets. You can't buy them ahead of time or on line. You have to go to their window at the Mint. So you never know if they'll have tickets when you get there. I think that is stupid as fudge-footballs. Why can't they give them out on line? At least a portion of them. People from far away are gonna get fudged if they come all this way having seeing the Mint as one of their main goals. Call you Senators and Representatives. Call the president. Citizens deserve tickets. This can't stand! read more

My husband and I came to the Denver U.S. Mint with a tour group. After getting searched we finally got into the Mint. You can't bring anything in here - just an ID and small wallet. Chapstick and your cell phone (if it has picture taking capabilities) aren't allowed. It was an interesting tour. You get to overlook productions - view the coins being created and pressed. However, it was a really small place. They did give our group 2 cents - a newly made penny and a penny before it's stamped. Kinda cool. They have a small gift shop. read more

They only do 6 I believe with 50 in each tour. We chose 9::0 went to breakfast and the capitol building. Tour was interesting as much as you'd think. Took 45 min. Oh the Mint. A place of shinny chips and the things little chillins' dreams are made of. I know mine were. And I HAVE BEEN HERE. At a very young age, nonetheless and it was..spectacular...definitely. Came with the grandparents and they were...very loving...naturally. What better way to show your love and adoration than to bring 'em to the mint. Show 'em what is really important. Had a good time here. Learned some things and got a souvenir penny! Tour guides aren't the most entertaining, but they are extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. I'm not sure where I read this, but I did read that you need to come super early and stand in line to get tickets especially during busy times like spring break. My husband got up and walked down there at 7:30 a.m. (so sweet), so we could be sure to score some tickets and there was absolutely no rush. We were staying there during spring break and when we seed up for the 11:00 tour, there were still tickets available for the final tour of the day. I do think that if you show up at noon you might run the risk of there not being any tickets for any of the later times, but wherever I read that you have to get up super early and wait in line before they open was a complete lie. This is a free tour and it's a great way to spend your time if you're in Denver. read more
