This is by far one of the worst Post offices around. I have video of them football throwing packages onto my porch one of which was a drone that sustained damage and nothing was done about it. I have packages that say "attempted delivery" yet no video evidence showing them "attempt" said delivery. I constantly get someone else's mail from another street with the same number. Zero customer satisfaction after standing in line to talk to the Postmaster about the issues WITH the video to prove the complaints. read more

Weeks of walking in and out and waiting at their "blue door" for some times 45 and no one talks to me. The 90% of the staff here don't care about doing any to help the citizens they deliver mail too. Will be filling a police report. GPs says delivery of the missing package the same time of the other packages but the video camera clearly shows 2/3 packages arrived and not the small switch game package. called postal office was told looks like it is at the warehouse. couple days later she tried to say it was delivered used gps, shady dishonest and it was not delivered because we were at home and have video proof with a time stamp. The Decatur, Georgia post office seems to be an epicenter for stolen checks that have been mailed, whether you place your mail in their external postal box or place your mail inside. There are a signfic ant number of posts online (Nextdoor, other places) with the same fact pattern- check mailed at the Decatur post office, check stolen and washed, and patron having to go through the hassle of closing a bank account and a long, drawn out process of getting funds back. I am in that category, from a certified mail tax payment that was mailed inside the post office. Frustratingly, there appears to be no sense of urgency about resolving these issues; I reported the theft to the postal inpector and to the police; the police are following up, I have heard nothing from the postal inspector and nothing from the postmaster at this location. I've lost trust of the postal service, especially at the Decatur location, and will not use this facility for mailing important items again. read more

So I took my mom to this post office. I am in the car waiting for her to come back. There is a a lot of foot traffic in/out this morning & there is a staff member sweeping the inside lobby. Alice, Alice, Alice! I'd give this location 4.5 stars (because the carriers sometimes mark packages as delivered when they're not), except for one employee in particular: Alice. Anyone who frequents this location, if you're unfamiliar with that name, Alice is the surly woman who's often working the counter who goes above and beyond to be unhelpful, with an added helping of bad attitude and condescension. She frequently refuses to do her job. Without fail, she'll demand unnecessary documents, nitpick over minutiae, or outright refuse to retrieve packages. Every interaction I've had with this worker has been unpleasant. If I were managing, I'd either put her in a non-public-facing role, or terminate her. No disrespect to the other employees at this location, they're helpful and friendly. She drags down the entire location. I only learned her name today, after she refused to get two parcels for me at 8 am, despite there being no other customers. Her excuse was that she can't leave the counter--yet she had no problem walking away from it when I told her I'm tired of her constant, needless attitude. Not to mention there's literally a sign hanging within the post office that states parcels can be collected at the counter from 8 am to 9 am. I'm hoping that by sharing her name, you'll be able to use it against her, like exorcising a demon. Though, this woman is worse than any entity I've seen portrayed in a horror flick. They are pitiful. They lose your packages. The lines are long. They take their time coming to the door where one receives packages. They give people the runaround. They rarely answer the phone. I once heard someone yelling at the workers for a long time saying, "These people want their packages." They are negligent with their mail services and their honesty is questioned. read more

The lady at the desk had SO MUCH attitude. I wasn't able to use self service because the address is tricky. When I went to the desk she was SO RUDE and DISMISSIVE when I asked if she made sure the address showed up ok. What do you know? 3 weeks later my back has been declared "dead mail / sent to a recovery center" thanks to this horrible employee. I don't usually leave negative reviews but I had a remarkable experience today. The woman behind the counter was very rude - yelling at me to move to the other side of the counter to tape my box, while no one was in line, however I obliged. When I brought my package to drop off (label already affixed, 15.999 oz zone 4 no surcharge) she told me "you can only mail 13oz first class, but since I'm nice I'll let you up to 16oz." My package weighed 17oz. So I stepped to the counter, removed some packaging and got it down to 15.8oz. When I came back to drop the package again she said "sorry, only 13oz. You can pay an additional $10.10 to ship this." I pointed out the type of label I had - it even said 15.999 oz on the label and she refused and started yelling at me "only 13oz!," and the woman beside her started yelling "only 12oz!!" I took my package and went to the post office in Avondale and they accepted it happily with no issues. Don't go to this store unless you want to be yelled at and over charged. read more

Possibly the worst Post Office in the USA? Our business mail is routinely lost or arrives months later at times. Letters have often been opened. Mail is mangled, stained. Where does this mail go before we "sometimes" receive it? Something is deeply wrong within this particular post office. I have spoken to other post offices in Georgia and they refer to the Decatur office on Ponce de Leon as notorious. The negligence and abuse of mail calls for a thorough criminal investigation. My personal visits here have often been a descent into human misery. Many of the people working in this post office over the years have been rude, obnoxious and just foul. I never want to deal with USPS ever again. Stopping by this location sealed it for me. I ordered a package that claimed it was out for delivery on Tuesday. It never arrived/never showed as scanned for delivery. With every passing hour and day, it delayed and delayed its estimated arrival. It never showed failed delivery either, so I had no way to know where it ever truly was. Each day since, I called USPS to see if they could help me. One associate snapped at me that I would have to wait for my local post office to call me for information and that he wasn't going to speculate anything. When I asked if "out for delivery" means what it says, he sighed audibly and told me "AGAIN, I am not going to say anything to you about this. I have no further comments." I asked to speak to another agent. He passed me onto his supervisor two hours later. She told me that she would call me the next day (Friday) after she gets in touch with my post office and investigates. Unfortunately, she never called back. With USPS, the customer has to reach out to find out what's going on and never gets a call back from anyone who is supposedly investigating the case. When I stopped by this location today (Saturday) to see if my package was perhaps sitting aside somewhere, the woman "helping" me was very rude. She took down my info, checked their shelves, and came back to tell me to write my phone number down. She then told me to step aside to write down my number/get out of the way so she could help the next person. "Come on, who is next?! I am only at this window for a minute!" The next person she "helped" was worried he didn't get the remainder of his packages. Only one was delivered and he was sure they were waiting here for him. She closed the door to look, and both he and another man in line with us remarked on how rude she was. She came back and again--she couldn't help. There was some issue with his zip code so she told him he was going to just have to wait and she wasn't going to help him. After I stepped back up to give her the paper with my info, I asked her politely and calmly if I could just ask her a question. I asked if my package could possibly be sitting at another location instead... I told her that USPS customer service on the phone gave me this address since it was closest to me, but I wondered if that meant that it necessarily had to be at this location (I don't know how it works). She yelled at me "you're doing what THAT MAN did" and then she went on about how I would just need to wait to receive a call on Monday. It is completely out of line to negatively compare one customer to another. I told her she needed to work on her customer service. She snapped "I think I did great." I left. ABSOLUTELY DONE with USPS. They don't empathize with customers, they don't work with you or stay in contact, and they are blatantly and unnecessarily rude. read more

I don't know the lady's name that I spoke to but the customer service here is horrible. Just horrible. The line is super long and didn't move at all to the point that the woman in front of me just walked out. They had 1 person working the counter when there was at least 10 people in line. There was this lady who works in the back I guess.. she was rude to the guy who was in front of me who was being very cordial w/ her and blew him off completely muttering some crap under her breath and she didn't help me at all and gave me information that was antithetical to what my tracking info was saying. I won't even waste my time writing a long review. Read all other 1 star ratings that talk about incorrect tracking updates/mysteries on where peoples mail is. This about the 4th time USPS has stated an "attempted delivery" (I've also had a few that stated "delivered" that were never delivered). Clearly, NO attempt was made.. for god's sake I have security cameras that run 24/7. Not only was no attempt made, no mail carrier even drove down my street! The tracking stated the "item arrived at the post office and is ready for pick up". So I went into the post office to pick up my item. The staff member that is working at the pick up door asks for my "slip" that was left at my door. After I told the staff member no one ever came to my door she told me I cannot get my package without a delivery slip (that I never received) in the most runaround fashion possible. Notice the sign; then notice the delivered box (wet, on the step, not on the porch, in the rain). I'm a life long resident of Decatur and I've watched this post office go from pretty good to outright horrid, and by no means am I exaggerating. I was a pen pal junkie back in the day and practically lived in this post office buying stamps, sending packages, picking up packages.....this was in the 1980s and 1990s. Fast forward to today, where we're technologically advanced and this place is operating like it took a dive back to the Victorian era! Amazon committed a colossal error by contracting with the USPS to deliver their Prime membership packages and this particular office proves it. They mark packages as "delivery attempted" knowing full well they're lying. I work from home and you can only imagine the outrage I have when I see "delivery attempted" and I've been at home all day! I've had packages stolen by substitute carriers, who I could hear scanning my packages in, only to go out to retrieve the package and nothing! Flag em down to question them and here come the lies! Oh and don't bother calling.....I'm convinced they keep the phone off the hook so they won't have to answer. And if you do get through, one of two things will happen. You get someone who's totally incompetent or you leave a message asking for a return call and never hear from anyone. And God forbid you have to visit the place, which is like 99.9% of the time when something goes wrong because you can't get through their phone line. Their 1-800 number is completely useless. Not sure why they even have it. I guess to make it appear as if they care when they really don't. Which leads me to my next point......Did I mention how incompetent the staff are? Yep, go there to stand in line for like 30 to 40 minutes because they usually only have one or two employee(s) working the counter. All of this, just so you can get the runaround or made to feel like you're the idiot. I do everything in my power to avoid this place and it looks like I'll have to part ways with Amazon if they continue using USPS to ship my packages. I cannot deal with the nightmare this place puts customers through. It induces post traumatic stress and that should never be tolerated in this day and age! If you can, deal with UPS or Fed Ex. Living throughout the country, I've visited many USPS locations. The location is pretty convenient and lures you in. Yet, the staff at this one in downtown Decatur is simply the worst I've ever seen. I'm not just talking about skipping please and thank you, I'm talking about ripping out your soul and stomping on it while a long line of other frustrated sacrifices/customers stand in line watching what may await them. Staff refuse to give shipping quotes and won't answer any questions about mailing options. When you do ask, they become abusive. You'll wait 40 minutes to an hour for packages or mail they are holding for you. You can try ringing the bell, but whoever answers is always angry. Angry in a way that I've rarely seen before. With eye rolling and stomping of feet, staff let you know when you're taking too long to explain something. That, or the just tell you to "get on with it." It is worth avoiding this post office by going to the one in Avondale Estates. Totally worth the 10 min ride. read more

And the items I ordered are all sold out too so it's not like I can reorder the product they lost. Went yesterday to mail passport application at Ponce USPS in Decatur. The postoffice employee (better called a retired bot) answered my questions so rapidly and so quietly (I have no hearing issues), refused to look at me and continued to look fixedly at the ceiling. The point of sale terminal that I used had several keys that required multiple strikes. He intentionally made my transaction so unpleasant that no respecting company would ever allow him to have contact with the public. Disgraceful...will visit USPS only in an emergency. read more
