The lobby doors to get to po boxes are ALWAYS locked in the morning when they are supposed to be opened. 8:45AM Saturday morning and I can't get to my po box. Yesterday it was locked until 7:30. USPS service here is very slow, and the lines are usually very long. If you plan to come, be prepared to spend at least an hour. What was strange and frustrating today: a staff member refused to tape my shipping label and told me I had to go home and do it myself, even though the label was already prepared. This post office in Redding is bigger than the one we have in Red Bluff, but all I need is a place to drop off packages I need to send. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What I do is print my mailing labels at home from the postal app and my account get billed and than I don't have to stand in any lines at all or even have to use that stupid kiosk thingy that gets all backed up cause people find in too hard to figure out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] With my label printed at attached, all I gotta do is drop off the package in the package slot or if it's big just take it to the counter and leave it ... no lines! Dessie totally made my day! I had a ton of parcels to send, some internationally and she made the whole experience fun rather than a chore. One of my bosses once called me a "perchip" and explained to my puzzled look that means a "perpetually chipper" person and that he wished he had my sunny mood. Well, I think I have been "out-perchipped" by sweet and sunny Dessie! I'm not sure why this place got such poor reviews, because Dessie sure made my day, and brought me from a great mood to a fantastic one! It's nice to see someone enjoy her job so much, and be so thoughtfully good at it. She presented me with the menu of options and patiently helped me with every paper and administrative decision. I just spent 40 minutes waiting in line at the Churn Creek Post Office to mail a package. Last week, I spent 30 minutes waiting in line. Apparently, the local postmaster likes to keep the employee hours trimmed to the point where forcing people to wait in line for long periods is no big deal. To make the matter worse, more than half of those in the slow line were elderly. Shame on the person responsible for this terrible service. However, those few who were working there were very nice and professional. There were just so few of them considering the number of customers that some people ahead of me were leaving without mailing their packages (on theor way to UPS, I presume). I was going to sell off and mail a lot of vintage VW parts in my parts stash, but not now. The wait is ridiculous. read more

I was going to give this USPS 1 star. I've been in and out of the DMV quicker than this place. The vibe inside was like a field trip to the morgue. There were 2 workers out front, eyes rolling and clearly annoyed with certain customers, with a line going almost to the door. There was no sense of urgency or caring at all, until the lady in the featured photo came rushing out and said "Thank you all for your patience, we are so glad you're here!" As to "service" at the Churn Creek Post Office, I would have to say very poor. I had a small bubble pack envelope that had some tiny machine screws in it, was pretty much flat. Clerk #6 charged me $4.90 calling it a "Package". I thought that was very steep, considering it only weighed .70 ounces. Looked up when I got home, and a bubble mailer like that should have cost 55 cents. I mean, that is very dishonest. If she had been a decent person, she would have just weighed it ans said "You can just put a stamp on it, it will be fine". But no, have to gouge the old guy. read more

Employee told to wear a face mask and refused saying that the face shield was adequate. Wasn't wearing the face shield over her mouth while serving other maskless customers... Not safe. Went there again today and the same employee lady isn't wearing any PPE at all while dealing with massless customers. I was told when I got my mailbox keys to take care to return all of them when I moved or there would be a rekeying fee taken out of my $50 deposit. For 2 years, I've taken care of them. Redding main branch is one of my least favorite places to go. The clerks are wonderful but the overall organization for package pickup and extra services is absolutely terrible. For example, I scheduled a passport appointment. Arrived early, and waited 45 minutes past our appt time without any communication. Finally stood in line and asked at the counter. They were nice but couldn't even give me an update or estimate on edit time. We left, scheduled our passport appt with the Shasta Count Clerk where they were right on time. My wife and I set an appointment todo our boys passports at this place (2 hrs away) and when we arrived there were two other family's waiting to be helped that were walk ins. The only person working at the time that could do passports was named April. She was busy with a family prior to our arrival and we spoke to the two family waiting to ask if they were waiting on appointments and that's when they told us they were walk ins. The two family said that they would probably help us before it got around to them since we had an appointment. When the family already being help we're finished, the clerk looked over at the waiting area and said "ok who's next?". I went up and told her we have an appointment at 12:30p (it was now almost 1p waiting for the first group). She looked up at the time and was trying to imply the tardiness and we told her we arrived on time. She then immediately said "we'll it doesn't matter, there's two family that has been here for 2 hours and I have to help them first". We asked what the point of setting an appointment was, if we have to wait for walk ins. She explained "so that you have a spot to be helped". As livid as I was, I went ahead and said "you know what? that's fine, we'll wait for the family's" and she agreed to help us after the waiting groups. After the next group finished she walks over to the waiting area and now contradicting herself with whom she would help next. This time she said to the other family "I have to help these guys because they have an appointment" (referring to us). The second family that were already waiting had already spoke to us prior and were kind enough to let us go before them since they were walk ins anyways. They understood the situation but this April person doesn't seem to grasp the concept of appointments and seems to make her own rules up as she goes. I don't recall ever going to any business where they would help all walk ins prior to appointments. There's a reason people set appointments, to avoid the wait. If it wasn't for the kind family and this review not allowing me to, I'd give this place 0 stars. read more

There is a least one thief there at the Redding Post Office....my package turned up missing.....but all of the Post Offices have stolen packages from me...Cottonwood, Anderson and now Redding have stolen from me...when I file a claim, they blame it on someone else, one time my own family were supposed to have stolen it, except no one in my family has key but me and no one even knew something was coming in the mail, so yeah, no I think they should be shut down and board up all the windows.....I would give them a negative rating if I could.... read more

I liken the USPS to government sponsored theft. At least that's what it seems like, as the last two packages my father has tried to send me have both been misplaced or lost. These medium sized brown cardboard packages have contained over $200 of medical supplies each. What's odd is that according to the tracking info, it says delivered, which it obviously wasn't (I have a community mailbox, so packages arrive in the lockbox for residents to open with a key). When I ask the front desk, nobody seems to know anything about it, and can't do anything meaningful to remedy the situation. They often don't pick up the Veteran's medicine from the V.A. Clinic as they are contracted and as a result this puts some of our Veterans/Grandparents at risk. They also refused to send a life saving medicine that was 1 cent off the amount. Instead they returned it for the penny. That penny may have cost a life. This post office is probably the worst run facility in the State. Most of the good employees have left do to ethical reasons. I'm speaking from experience and fact based information only. read more

I would like to complain about how impossible it is to make a phone call to this location. I have called for 2 weeks during the listed hours. I need to renew a passport for a minor. Which requires the phone appointment set ahead. How can I make an appointment over the phone is no one will answer. I beg of you to come up with a better option for passport appointments. I work too far away to drive in to make the appointment. So now I have to see if my daughter can drive in and make the appointment. Ps if you look at my reviews I almost never complain! Now that I went in for my appointment. Which I made in person. I must say the service once in the passport office was incredible. So I upped my 2 star to a 4 star.
