We've been coming here with my son for a little over 3 months now (from almost 5 to now newly…read moreturned 5) and have had an outstanding experience. Seifu Mario is wonderful with the children and achieves a beautiful balance between building genuine relationships with kiddos, while also commanding their respect, focus and discipline. Seifu manages a class full of 4-7 year olds with such ease, keeps the class running smoothly and quickly, and checks in individually with students to keep them progressing in their own KungFu practice. The studio is clean and organized and it's clear that Seifu is truly passionate about what he does as shown through his style, interactions with children and parents.

Nathan personally reached out to me and let me know that he thought my son would benefit from joining classes on a regular basis at the studio. I spoke to him about my son having issues focusing and sitting still in class (he was 5 at the time) and he said Kung Fu would be perfect for him. He has been doing Kung Fu for almost 4 years now and his behavior, concentration, and focus have improved so much. We love all of the instructors there. They are all so wonderful with the kids, very patient, and diligent. They send monthly newsletters to keep the parents informed, offer camps during school breaks, and hold fun events such as bowling and beach days to keep everyone involved and having fun. I highly recommend 5 Elements!!! Also - during this time where they have not been able to have the studio open, they have been very active virtually! They send emails with new information, as well as reminders about the zoom classes they are offering. I love that my son can still learn and practice from home.

I've trained with a lot of different people in many different styles. Martial arts is one of the…read morecornerstones of human evolution; the ability to use yourself to defend against the forces of evil. Chinese Martial Arts Institute is a beacon of light in La Mesa. It's not just another studio, it's a family, and not like Cobra Kai, but more like The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You don't wear a shell, and you don't fight an Asian dude with a shiny metal helmet and razor sharp gauntlets, but you do train with the best and practice Northern Green Dragon Shaolin Kung Fu. So when people ask if you're kung fu is good, you can say, "hell yea." Training here is always a blast, and quite a workout. Before CMAI, I never really worked with weapons. Well, I did used bo staffs, because I got serious bo staff skills, but I never practiced with swords. You get swords here. That's how hard core they are about showing you the power of ass kickery. Sifu Dwight Love is one of the most awesome practitioners of the art, and an accomplished instructor. He's an older black man with a face that says he don't take crap from no one, but he's very kind and always patient with his students. Just think of Samuel L Jackson and replace his guns with Chuck Norris' ass kicking fists of fury and round house kicks of death--that's Sifu Dwight. Going to CMAI, I've learned 2 things: How to kick ass and how to take names. It's a great studio and they have lessons for all ages.
