    1) Yellowbot.com "Buyer Beware"…read more I was a member of this gym for almost 2 years. I took all of the different types of classes that were offered here- muay thai kickboxing, karate, and juijitsu. I even enrolled my two young children into their children's martial arts classes. For a long time I was very happy with this place, and can concur with the quality of the classes offered...however, the reason I definitely do not recommend this place to anyone, at least not to any women, is because of one of the owner's- Brian Johnson, who runs this business with his wife, Dani Johnson. Almost from the beginning of my membership here, I experienced what I felt was excessive and inappropriate attention from Brian Johnson. He made some advances towards me that made me uncomfortable and that were not reciprocated. He attempted to interfere with any interactions I had with other male members and/or instructors. He very loudly made false accusations towards me in an apparent effort to alienate me from other members. He openly spoke about other members private lives. When I did not reciprocate his apparent extramarital interest in me, he made up a false accusation against me and prematurely terminated my membership. When I attempted to speak with him about things, he threatened me with what he called a "dossier" that he had been apparently compiling against me. Brian Johnson is a former part-time, Tumwater, WA. police officer. Personally, I think it behooves anyone who encounters (former) law enforcement people to tread very carefully with them. Throughout my membership here, I almost always felt as though I were being avidly watched. While I truly learned a great deal of different martial arts, altogether, it was ultimately a very negative experience for me because of Brian Johnson's inappropriate behavior towards me. I strongly suggest whomever goes here to never leave any of their personal electronic devices unattended and to always lock up their belongings, which few if any members actually do, that I observed. Your customer service is crap. Your 6-month contract is a bullshit 7 month contract. You have inadequate facilities for women. You let people not in classes interrupt ongoing classes. You have no respect for the people who PAY you to go there. Your ignorance is unsurpassed. The fact that your unclean equipment gives people skin rashes is disgusting. It's..." -Ed McCormack 7/17/15. Yellowbot. "This is a very bad business. They are very unprofessional and not good with kids. They even have temper tantrums. You will be stuck paying on the contract for a year no matter how unhappy you are." -Yellowbot "Warning, do not sign the contract, they tell you false lies to get you to sign. This is a dirty business." -rateitall 5/30/2008 "Poor customer service, poor quality instruction, this business is in it for the money, it won't last long. It is a very negative environment. I would never recommend anyone signing your kids up here. What a waste of money. Prices are low, but you get even less of what you pay for." -rateitall. "Buyer Beware. This is a bad place for kids. There are a lot of scary people in there. It is a money hungry business." -Yellowpages. 4/7/2008 "Negative professionalism" -Natalie Martinez "This guy is completely unprofessional and likes to threaten people after assuming that they hang up on him." -James Dillman "My girlfriend attended the Academy of Brian Johnson and after the free week we decided to enroll her. It wasn't long before the older gray-haired instructors started staring at her and it made her extremely uncomfortable. Like licking their lis and putting out their tongues sort of thing. I've heard negative things about instructors there abusing their power to get with the people who go there so we decided to have her quit. On top of that the floors were very dirty with body hair on the ground and it smelled like stale socks. If you are a man maybe it's for you, they seemed to have a lot of people sparring and stuff, buit I'm not sure if the coaches are even qualified instructors in any shape or form. For a 7 time karate black belt master the owner didn't have any trophies, medals or belts of his own to speak of. Or any schooling or paperwork behind his credited instructors. Very suspect and a school that has a very sexual innuendo type thing going on. Very suspect. " -VerView, AntiPopThought, 1/16/2018

This fitness coach will not provide you with the refund for the services that were not used. I had to move out of the state and I was told that he will not give me all of the refund at once due to "personal large expenses" he encountered and will pay me back in 2 parts. I received 1/2 of my refund and now I cannot get the other 1/2 and he blocked my number. I tried to reach out , unsuccessfully, to the owner of this facility located in Tumwater, WA. This is not a spam and I have all written communication and receipts.

After many years of being active but not knowing what best works for my body, counting calories,…read morenever really losing body fat, and wondering what exactly the right eating plan was I was referred by a friend to Amanda. I had a wonderful experience with her personal training sessions. She is down to earth and unlike any other fitness coach I have met. She was realistic, organized, punctual, readily available, encouraging, flexible, and informative. Amanda knows her stuff. There were times in the beginning, when I started eating the way she suggested and I started freaking out feeling like it was unmanageable but she would talk me through it and I came through the experience with a much better understanding of food. I finally, after 44 years, feel at peace with food without tracking and counting calories. No longer do I obsess over certain foods. Amanda teaches you what your body needs (and it isn't cutting entire food groups out). She taught me awesome weight lifting exercises and body strength exercises too. What she taught me I can use at home or any gym. She didn't lead me on trying to hook me into buying more sessions - she simply taught, gave me copies of what she taught, and moved on to the next session. She explained a lot about stretching, taking care of your body after workouts, and more. Amanda delivered everything promised and more. I walked away with a new understanding of how to fuel my body, without going hungry, and what the best workouts are. She kicked my butt in the gym but was encouraging the entire time - she made me want to push myself but not in a mean way. Her gym is awesome - everything you need to get fit. I can't say enough good things about Amanda. I would highly recommend her. She is very personable and friendly yet professional. Definitely a good personal trainer for any age or gender. She knows her stuff and will get you in shape if you listen to her and work hard. I am down several lbs, clothes are looser, feeling good about myself, getting strong, and no longer obsessing over counting calories or the latest fad diet. She has given me sanity in the health department and I can't put a price tag on that.

Five stars for a really fun and honestly fairly priced hip hop series class for adults. I love that…read morethe class is a mix of all ages (from 18-older dance moms from the sounds of it). Everyone is friendly and encouraging and it really is an actual beginners course (there is an intermediate as well). Truly a no judgment zone and the instructors are all fun. They offer the beginner series (6 weeks) for $90 and then the intermediate for four weeks after is less than that, I'm spacing on the cost. All around a fun way to let loose and get a good workout in. It was also nice to see that some people enjoyed the series so much they decided to do it all over again. They do a new song/routine every class so if you miss a class you're not super lost like in many series classes. Overall, would definitely recommend The Beat Box!

If you are absolutely new and with no background in dance.. You may want to look for a foundations/ intro to hip hop (check out Tacoma Dance Studio on Thursday nights) . If you are a advance beginner and looking for a little push to get to intermediate level than this is the spot!! I started in January 2023 with some knowledge and experience in hip hop foundations, grooves, rocks, bounce.. But after joining The Beat Box and learning everything I can from Ms. SJ, I can confidently say I'm picking up combos and learning musicality so much more!! And Ms. SJ, Jayce, and Madelyn have been so much to work with. And you can see how much Ms SJ enjoys teaching and seeing her students improve. I've tried every adult hip hop classes in Olympia/ Lacey and The Beat Box is the best!
