It has a wide variety of clothing that surely comes from it culturally diverse population. Also the other customers wandering around are always just as interesting. It funny the conversations that people will have in public that should obviously not be overheard from other punters. I really didn't need to know that the 50 year old woman in the next isle got lucky with that bloke from the café last night, "you know, that one with the caaaarlton beanie". The staff at the counter are as bland as robots, although I think I did see one smile one day. The price in these super second-hand stores is creeping up and up all the time. I was in search for a pair of jeans and a couple, depending on the label, were going for over $50, for second hand jeans. I think it's a bit much. I can't see the old granny at the salvos putting a $50 price tag on a bit of denim.

Some of the men's t-shirts seriously reek. Customer service is okay i guess, nothing amazing to remember. That's not what's bringing me back to the store. But i do enjoy shopping at savers footscray. Found some amazing treasures and will continue to come back.

You can find some truly odd things in here, which I think is wonderful, and is therefore one of the reasons I often come here when I need to find strange and funny items like bright green, curly wigs or an 80s party dress - these are for playing dress ups with my niece and for wearing to fancy dress dos rather than my personal style, ok. I also like it for cheap costume jewellery. Strings and strings and beads and fake pearl and wooden necklaces hanging garishly on wire racks are a bargain (I like to buy them then pull them all apart and do my own little jewellery remix).

It's at this point that stores tend to get a little more practical. Considerably less crowded than the more popular (and ginormous) Savers, the Brunswick Salvos is decent, mid-sized op-shop. Among its' many strengths is the broad selection of furniture it houses throughout the year, with prices ranging from a what could considered a clear steal to ridiculously overpriced for non-antique second-hand goods. Aside from that, it's a pretty standard op-shop, with ornaments, kitchenware, books, clothes, shoes and knick knacks all from a range of eras, tastes, styles and in variable conditions. They have a half off day every now and then, and it's always worth a look in when perusing the local area, but the location does mean that it can be a little picked over. It's just too damn convenient, really.

Domiciled on Gertrude Street, my favourite little strip for vintage clothing in Melbourne bar none, Curve Vintage sells an incredible range of vintage clothing and accessories with a good smattering of vintage designer and contemporary second hand pieces thrown in for good measure. My one Curve Vintage qualm? It feels as if the place is never open. But InStyle - which ranks it amongst Victoria's best vintage boutiques - assures me that this is because Curve is open for the abbreviated hours of midday until 6pm from Tuesday to Saturday much like many of the exclusive little boutiques dotted along Gertrude. If you're serious about your vintage you will seriously love Curve. Prices are attendantly pretty steep but as most vintage afficionados know, a great vintage find is priceless.

I come here with my partner because he likes to check out the men's racks and try on vintage jackets and shirts. I have to say that Curve's collection of men's wear is phenomenal and they cater for a lot of different styles: there are wacky and lurid shirts, and reserved and classic dinner jackets. I spend most of my time on the other side of the store buried amongst the women's wear. During the winter months I would stock up on boots and the warmer dresses that I could easily wear with tights. When I visited last time there were some gorgeous summer dresses and shorts perfect for the hot weather. The prices are quite high but I honestly don't mind paying. The clothes and accessories are fantastic and the service is always great.
