My search for vegetarian fare in the wilds of West Virginia led me to Parkersburg, to this modest cafe. A few parking spots were directly on the street outside with parking meters which on my visit did not seem to be working. Only one person was working when I arrived, which was a bit rough because the place got busy and we all ordered drinks and food. Late during my hour long stay a second employee showed up. Thankfully I wasn't in any great hurry. The menu in person had a few things crossed off that I'd seen online. I ended up with a Bulgarian vegan crepe and a waffle with chocolate sauce. The crepe had some nice fresh vegetables, but not quite as much flavor in the actual crepe as I'd hoped. The waffle was quite large and again had some nice fruit, but the confection itself wasn't quite popping for me. The tastiest thing I got was undoubtedly a vanilla spiced chai. I didn't have any difficulty finishing the things I ordered, though I'd order differently if I came again. Given how many towns in the region there are that do not have this place's seemingly effortless commitment to vegan and gluten-free options, I'm glad they're there. read more

What a lovely little spot! Thank you Yelp for helping us find it when driving through West Virginia. To be honest, this wasn't our first choice. There was some kind of classic outpost of Americana nearby that specialized in burgers, hot dogs, and root beer that I thought the kids would love. But that place was just doing take out and the drive through line was epic. So after stopping for gas, we reconsidered and I convinced the missus to try this little cafe for crepes. She was a little nervous about the whole thing, especially after getting the hairy-eyeball at the gas station, as she was clearly an outsider in a small town. But Unity Cafe was friendly, welcoming, charming, and more importantly delicious! I went to a (now closed) fancy French bistro in Chicago that "made" crepes, and these beat those handily at a fraction of the price. My crepe even had a little bit of a lacy edge! If I have anything bad to say about the spot, it's that the crepes are just too darn big. Mine, with avocado, swiss cheese, chicken breast, and tomatoes was so large, I could barely finish half of it. My wife pushed herself to finish her breakfast crepe, but was uncomfortably full. My son was in a similar spot with his breakfast crepe too. We really could have split two crepes between the four of us and have been satisfied. Maybe then we could have had room for dessert. My daughter's peanut butter and jelly crepe was a little less loaded with goodness, but it was topped with whipped cream. She was very happy. Whipped cream is like magic that way! To help make the trip back home to Michigan a little easier, we treated her to a strawberry and chocolate smoothie which she sipped in the car over many miles. I asked for a taste on the road, not realizing she had already finished it. The bathroom was clean. The staff were patient, hard working, and friendly. We found a metered parking spot right outside, and since it was Saturday we didn't even have to pay. There isn't a lot of seating in the place, but we found a table for four without a problem. I like to think of it as cozy, versus small. Unity Cafe saved the day when our plans went sidewise off the beaten path. Thank you! Such a cute little coffee shop in downtown Parkersburg! Stopped in on a Saturday morning and it wasn't too busy. Barista was very friendly and gave a few recommendations. Just got a brewed coffee and an iced Matcha latte. Looks like they are known for crapes, but we didn't eat. Street parking was easy and plentiful right out front. read more

I was in town recently for a meeting and after it was over I needed some caffeine stat. I opened up my Yelp app to see what was in the area and I picked this place. I must say, It was most definitely the right choice! From the outside it looks very quaint, very welcoming, cool older building and it sits on a corner lot. There is plenty of free and paid parking all around this establishment. I walked in and I was pleasantly surprised with the chic decor and the very welcoming European(Bulgarian) accent from the owner. I proceeded to the counter to order a cappuccino with almond milk and a water for my friend. She asked if I wanted anything to eat and I said I was a vegetarian/vegan plus I wasn't really that hungry. She said, We have vegetarian/vegan options and that woman right there is eating one of them. That woman smiled and said, it's amazing! I was sold! I ordered a vegetarian crepe wrap with no egg and light feta(which was recommended by the woman in the window seat enjoying hers, thank you!). So as I waited for my crepe wrap and cappuccino we chatted with the owner and a little bit with the other woman who was there enjoying her food. Not long after that she came to the counter and handed me my drink and I took a sip before putting the lid on, Wow, it was very good! Then she asked me if I was eating there and I told her unfortunately I had an engagement I needed to attend so she put it in a cute to go box for me. When she handed it to me she said I don't know how you are going to eat this on the go and I said, Oh don't worry, I'll devour it! She handed me some napkins and a fork with a smile. We spoke for a bit longer about food and wines and she spoke of travel and other such great things, but then we had to head out so we said our goodbyes. Once I got into my truck I decided to have a quick bite and that was the last I seen of that crepe wrap. It was literally one of the best sandwiches or wraps I have ever had in my entire life. Hands down! I told you I would leave you a review and here it is. This place is now one of my favorite cafes. It lacks in nothing. The owner is sweet and welcoming! We popped in here after lunch for a non-dairy latte and to check out the space/prep for a meeting. Great vibe inside with good music, delicious coffee and some handcrafted baked goods. Biscotti from Pittsburgh! Coffee was wonderful. We didn't have time to have a crepe - or the room after lunch - but we would definitely stop back here if we were in Parkersburg again. Unity Cafe was a great little gem in downtown Parkersburg. I loved it's character and interior decor. It was very cozy too. The workers were extremely nice, and even gave some tips on other things to eat and see in the area. HIGHLY recommend the Pavlov's Latte drink with lavender and mint flavors. It sounds weird, but was really good. Crepes were great too. I had the Paris, but I'm sure it's hard to go wrong with any of them. The coffee here is so delicious. I got the Pavlov Latte which is lavender and mint and my partner got the cold brew. Both were wonderful. I got the simply veggie crepe which was the perfect breakfast portion without being too heavy. It was full of veggies and egg and cheese. My partner got the mountaineer which he enjoyed.
