I am surprised after all these years she still has this job. The guided tour is free, but normally requires a reservation 48 hours in advance online. We didn't have tickets, but I called in and spoke to a nice worker who was able to accommodate. The tour begins with a short introductory video, which was a bit on the boring side. However things got interesting. The guide used a model of the mansion to explain the additions throughout the years, which helped bring the history to life. The mansion is four stories however the tour only goes up to the third floor. The entire guided tour lasted about 50 minutes, and truly you get to see a lot. My favorite was the master bedroom and the governor's office. It was interesting learning about today's governor. Realistically running the state from the mansion. It is prepared with secure phone, lines and Internet. Another nice bonus photos in the mansion have never been allowed, but rules have changed two months ago. You are now allowed to take photos without flash. Overall this was a wonderful experience, especially for adults and young families so with it being free. That said I would not bring very young children, as the rules are extremely strict on no touching and nothing is roped off. Highly recommend if you are visiting Sacramento and wanting a free Meaningful activity!

However, I was having lunch in the area last week and realized I have never reviewed it. The highlight of the park for me is the beautiful World Peace Rose Garden, which is especially stunning right now because all of the roses are in bloom. The gardens' central fountain creates a peaceful atmosphere and makes this a wonderful place to relax and walk around or sit and just enjoy the scenery. I almost always have my dog with me and she loves watching all the squirrels in the park and there are so many settings that make for a great photo ops of her. There are also lots of great manicured paths for me to walk with her. Another thing that I love about this park is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. As the mother of a veteran, I am always very moved by this tribute to those who have served. The statues are incredibly well done and it's a beautiful space for some quiet reflection. Parking can sometimes be hard and expensive, but it's a lovely park where I am rarely bothered, no matter how busy it can get at times. I definitely recommend stopping by if you haven't already and I will continue to return to this park again and again whenever I'm downtown.

Now the WPA Rock Garden is a lush home for a variety of California natives, succulents, and drought tolerant plants. The design of this green space pairs Sylvia with Russian sage, tall bright dahlias, black eyed Susan and Shasta daisy's, cone flower, lantana, dusty Miller, and soft silvery fuzzy lambs ear. The walking paths are edged with low growing ramblers, and various unique succulents peek through strewn Lodi brown River rock. This is a place to walk-through and appreciate some of California nature's beautiful colors, peaceful foliage and texture. I have been here before a few times but I never reviewed it because it has always been on the off-season and although the garden was nice, it definitely wasn't showing its full potential. I am so glad that I took the time to visit again last week. The variety of roses is incredible, with countless colors and fragrances throughout the garden. There is beauty all around no matter where you look. This garden is the kind of place where you can easily spend an afternoon walking through the paths, taking photos, or just sitting and enjoying the scenery. The surrounding park is just as enjoyable with plenty of shade, ample seating and convenient street parking. While I was there, there were lots of people out enjoying the beautiful weather, and so many people walking their dogs. I had my little pup with me and she got to make lots of friends. It was also still incredibly peaceful even though there were many people out and about. This this whole area feels welcoming. A gentleman asked me to take some photos of him for his wife and we had a great conversation about his matcha and he recommended a new coffee shop to me. I also got to meet lots of other dog owners and everyone was warm and friendly. This garden is definitely worth a stop, especially in late spring and summer when it's in peak bloom.

I even found a kitty calendar for 2026 and I am already extremely excited to hang it up! As far as the cost was id you kept your eye out you could get some seriously good products for a good deal I think I got 5-6 chunky candles some oils the calendar for 50 to 69 bucks but there are some candles there that are that exact price. On weekends, it's harder to find parking, but with patience, you'll get one. My sister wanted to go to vampire penguin but we were distracted by "Garden of Enchantment." As we walked in, we noticed the astrology books and then crystals, wind chimes... there were beautiful wooden chests that I want to come back for. This store has narrow isles and gets packed! So be careful! Any of these items can be beautiful gifts or just something special for yourself. I ended up getting some jewelery and some incense for my daughter. Some items felt like they were very overpriced. Like... back in Roseville, I could get the same crystal for at least $8 cheaper. Not that I couldn't afford it, but to me, it was a ridiculously priced... but hey!! It's in Old Sacramento... which can be a touristy kinda place! So prices get hiked! When I paid for my items, the girl behind the register was fast and had me out of the crowd quick. Onto the next shop!!!!
