It's that time of the year when the green thumb starts to itch again. Wanted to check out some local nurseries and this one popped up in my search. Pretty cool space. There are small shop sections for succulents/cacti, tropical plants (saw a few rare species), and associated knick-knacks. There's also a compact desert botanical garden showcasing huge plants (my favorite area)! I docked a star because the succulents/cacti shop section in particular looked a bit sad as the selection wasn't robust when I visited and some of the plants there were unsightly dehydrated-brown. Friendly staff. Had no trouble reaching here via GPS. Overall worth a peek if you're in the area especially for the botanical garden!

This place is so cool! It has the best plants and everyone is so knowledgeable. When you buy a plant they literally support you for the life of the plant. I can't tell you how many times I've asked for advice and they're always willing to help. The venue is super cute too whether your buying plants or want to host an event. They have you covered!

The Prickly Pear is such a fun and amazing little gem right here in the heart of Downtown Sacramento! My team and I recently had the pleasure to host our holiday event at their Pot N Sip with an AMAZING lunch. We had lots of laughs, full bellies, and adorable new plants to add to our homes/offices. I highly recommend the Pot N Sip for all family, work, or just fun related events.

An absolute dream location for your next event!! My daughter's bridal shower was held here this weekend and it was PERFECT. The owner was incredibly easy and available to work with..even allowing us to add an additional hour one week before the shower and a staff member was on-site for questions. The barn that is the larger indoor space for hosting easily accommodated our 30 and could have hosted even more. The weather was on our side but the barn and greenhouse has air conditioning. We used the upstairs kitchen to keep food ready until serving. There are five 6 foot tables that seat 8 already inside of the barn and additional tables and chairs for use that we used for activities in the GORGEOUS courtyard. I loved everything that we used for table decor, photo backdrops etc. but the venue itself was soooo dreamy that you really only need to minimally decorate. I will recommend and use this place again and again

The Prickly Pear is a must see for all plant lovers! They have such an amazing selection of cacti and succulents. Lots are uncommon and the ones you wouldn't see at most stores. Recently, they opened their PP Jungle, which is their indoor plant section. They have an expensive set of uncommon and rare houseplants. Staff is very helpful for any tips and questions. So don't be afraid to ask. Their space can also be reserved for events!

We hosted our wedding with Prickly Pear (PP) in early April of this year and it was everything we had hoped for! Mona and Inez were super helpful, accommodating, and very friendly! They made the process of selecting a venue stress free. PP overall is such a beautiful venue, we received nothing but compliments of the place. PP itself was and is beautiful so we barely had any decorations to spruce up the place. They had tables, chairs, and more which made it super conviennent. We bought a few plants before and after the wedding and will definitely come back. If you're looking for an intimate, backyard, natural outdoor and Indoor, plant vibe (lol) type of venue, PP is the best place.

The garden ,this is before you get to check out their Cacti selection. So beautiful

Beautiful little hidden gem in Mid-Town. The prices are great and they have a wonderful selection of plants. Also the woman who helped me there was very knowledgeable about each plant, very helpful. My go to place for plants now

The Prickly Pear is one of my favorite places in Sacramento! Not only can you stop in to get plants in the shop (or my favorite face oil, Queen of the Night), you can also have great group events here! We have been hosting our end of year team building and holiday party with them for the last four years and can't wait to come back each year! And every year we have more people attend because potting your own cactus or succulent and having dinner is a blast! Mona is also the coolest human alive and we love supporting her business!!

The Prickly Pear is my FAVORITE plant shop to visit when I'm in downtown Sacramento! They may only be open Thursdays through Sundays, but it's so worth the wait all week to go in and check out all their amazingness over the weekend!! It's in the coolest old-fashioned home off U Street, and both the bottom floor of the house and the backyard are all part of the business. There's even a barn in the back that you can rent out for events! I've done this, I celebrated my birthday there with a Pot & Sip event, and it was one of my most cherished birthdays to date! The owner, Mona, is extremely earth-conscious, and any products they sell that AREN'T plants are ethically sourced, and usually made by a small business owner, and usually a woman-owned small business at that! Mona has even developed her own skin care line built off the incredible power of prickly pear seed oil. I'm OBSESSED with her Queen of the Night and Morning Majesty face oils, and I use her body scrub every shower! I'm approaching 40 years old, but my skin has never looked better! The Prickly Pear also has locally-made prickly pear jam macaroons, locally-made kombucha on tap for only $5 donation per cup, and boooooy are those booch's tasty! Mona and her husband also have a small farm (not on site), and you can purchase some homegrown veggies in store too! All of that, and I haven't even TOUCHED on all of the amazing plants that are available! Lol The Prickly Pear not only has an indoor "PP Jungle" for all of your common and exotic houseplant needs, but take a walk out the back door and embark on a journey through a landscaped desert oasis complete with dozens of species of cacti, succulents, and other gorgeous plants! Your walk through this desert wonderland leads you to the sweet greenhouse in the backyard where you can grab yourself some cacti and/or succulent babies. You can also browse the wall of locally hand-made pottery for sale, I'm partial to the boobie and booty pots myself! Haha I could keep gushing about the Prickly Pear, but if you've read this far, thanks! Haha Now go check out your new favorite place to spend all your money! And be sure to say hi to Inez when you walk in, she's the AMAZINGLY knowledgeable woman who helps Mona run the shop, and she's the BEST and always super helpful!!

I came to Prickly Pear in January with my friends after finding this shop through BretmanRocks post of the succulent sculpture that was made for him by the amazing shop owner here! The inside of the store is so cool and inviting, I could have stayed in there for hours! Outside is an oasis filled with cacti and my favorite part the Monsteras! You wouldn't think this store is as big as it is from the street but this place is huge and all the plants are gorgeous and the staff is amazing! I love that prickly pear also offers so much more than just plants! I could go on forever but this place is amazing!

Visited here with my hubby, and we were both so amazed at how well thought and taken care of this small space was! I heard of the Prickly Pear on Instagram, and coming to Mona's beloved plant sanctuary did not disappoint. We loved the selection of plants, the green house and everything about it especially the goats!! I always enjoy how active they are on Instagram, and how their team really cares about their customers. (Love watching Mona's dance videos! ). Will be visiting again soon!!

I'd been hearing all about this place that my fellow plant mamas recommended. Finally got a chance to check it out when I came here for the Saturday morning Oasis yoga. It was my lucky day because the teacher Taylor of Oasis was amazing and you can't beat asanas in an old a barn surrounded by beautiful artwork and an array of plants and cacti in all kinds of peculiar form. What a cool environment they've created here and what a great place to throw a little party as I learned you can rent the space for events...garden wedding, work event, plant and sips... oh the possibilities in this quaint little sac town gem in a a nondescript old downtown Victorian. Check it out. I can't wait to add something prickly from here to my own garden oasis.

Well you can imagine my happiness while at a Yelp event in Oak Park I saw next door there was an amazing looking nursery-I just knew I would have to make a return visit-well when I finally had the time,we headed to The Plant Foundry located at 3500 Broadway in Oak Park. This place is so cute-I haven't been to a ton of nurseries as I've generally picked up my cactus plants at random spots like a midtown market or a Trader Joe's or as gifts from people but I will say this was one of the cuter nurseries I've been to. When we arrived I walked around a bit to check out what they had to offer-what was in season and wondering where the cactus plants were. I liked this little sign they had in the middle of their nursery which advised everyone what was in season and what should be planted at this time of year-for a newbie green thumb person like myself-information like that is very helpful. After walking around a bit I decided on the cutest little cactus to add to my collection at home and it cost me $7.99,so cheap and my daughter decided to get a snow peas plant($7.49). In closing-if you ever find yourself in the Oak Park area and want to check out the cutest little nursery-I would 100% recommend The Plant Foundry for all your gardening needs-they have a really awesome business running out there-I like em and will be back.

Not only are there a bunch of plants to choose from, the owners there are super kind and helpful! I went to buy bonsai trees for my mom's birthday and there were tons of options. I asked the lady for advice and she was able to help me narrow down which plants were best indoor, which were best outdoor, and how much they were. As others stated, prices aren't listed so you have to ask the owner how much the plants are, but they are fairly priced in my opinion. The owner was also helpful when it came to giving advice on how often to water the plants, where they should stay to get the best light, and answered all our questions. I ended up getting a ficus (left) and a juniper (right). When our ficus wasn't doing so well, we brought it back into the nursery hoping for answers on how we could better take care of it or plants like it in the future. Not only was she able to examine it, trimmed it, and showed us how to water it, she even went ahead and repotted a new one for us! We weren't expecting to even get a new ficus, but she went out of her way to find us another ficus, teach us how to take better care of it.
