It was a unique experience coming to work each day and watching a construction crew building what appeared to be a Craftsman style house. I saw lots of them when I lived in North Park. When they finished construction a crane lifted the house into place near the top of the building. At the opening reception the artist Do Ho Suh appeared to talk about his latest creation. I saw him afterwards and had my picture taken with him. Fallen Star is one of my favorite works in the Stuart Collection. Looks very cool from the ground. Inside it's very disorienting as the floor isn't level and the angles are not what you are used to. This is one of the most unique and interesting artworks I've ever seen. Cool documentary about Fallen Star on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbVAv2AENfI I never saw Do Ho Suh again but he is still doing great work and his last exhibition was in New York in 2022. https://newyorkarttours.com/blog/art,artist,contemporary,critic,exhibition,gallery,newyork,photography,sculpture,tour,visualart/inverted-monument/

This is a review fo the Fallen Star in UC San Diego's Stuart Collection…read more The Fallen Star is for sure a must-do for students at UC San Diego. It is a great experience being in the house and it is super fun. It is available for everyone to go and book a tour. Beware! The spots get taken up really quickly so be sure to book far in advance. You book 30 minute slots on Wednesdays or 15 minute on Thursdays depending on whether or not you are booking with a group or not(Wed for group, Thursday for Individual). We did not book with a group as the group signups are extremely full (Backed up for 2 months) so we just booked multiple individual tours on the same day. You are supposed to arrive around 5-10 minutes before your time starts so you can spend the whole time within the house. Although our group for the tour was luckily pretty small(Only 4), sometimes they can be a bit larger. Parking can be a bit difficult as its around a 5 minute walk away from the event but I think its worth it. Its also free! Overall, I would recommend it.

With its two-story open concept and brick walls, it has an urban yet elevated industrial vibe. I came here recently during Comic Con week and in addition to the modern pop art downstairs, I geeked out on the Marvel pieces upstairs. They featured the original comic books, time stone, orb, and a few life-sized Marvel super heroes. It was a treat and appropriate for Comic Con, of course! Can't wait to see which talented artists they'll feature at the gallery next.

I've been there a few times and finally decided to share my lovely experience with this art treasure located in Gaslamp. The beautiful gallery is inside an historic building featuring unique contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, and much more by a variety of local artists. We're often told great art speaks for itself...well, the art will speak for itself. You'll see a spectacular art selection being displayed on both levels (upper level is the solo exhibition) - the artwork captivating. The owner, Sonya Sparks, and staff are always welcoming and very helpful. Therefore, I highly recommend checking out Sparks Gallery.

Tim's Bio was posted in the lit window, and I knew instantly that he possessed remarkable talent. My friend was miffed (Tim named his Gallery after his beloved wife, Amy, who is radiant & stunning. So was my friend, but she was upset that her boyfriend had not named a Gallery after *her*! :) When Tim was 3, he would draw and not play with other kids his own age; by the time he was 16, he had a painting hung in the Whitehouse! He fell in love with Amy in San Francisco, he had her at "I'm an artist". Tim is incredibly meticulous, shy, and nocturnal. He often reflects Amy in his art....He colors he uses are surreal, sometimes it takes him an entire year to finish one work of art! His prices have really increased in value -- deservedly so since I first discovered his gallery in 2004. I have been to a few of Tim's Openings, he has to prep himself to deal with the public...Once he does, he has a spectacular presence! You can truly tell you are in front of an old, extremely talented soul. Amy told me in 2004 that Tim hired someone to price his work, and that is when he began to succeed. I think that is a great idea, it's hard to be impartial to your own work. I was just retained to promote an upcoming artist, I feel she has really undervalued her work. Tim isn't afraid to explore the dark side, he is really a fascinating person and I strongly encourage you to visit his Gallery -- it's more like a museum than a Gallery, and it is literally easy to spend hours inside! I have his books and cards and someday, I'd love to have several of his pieces in my home.
