I found the service very slow and the waitress did not really engage with us. I have dietary restrictions so am had pressed to find something to order. After looking over the menu, it looked like the all day breakfast would work for me if I eliminated most of the extra items and just ordered poached eggs, fruit and sourdough toast. I was advised that they could not poach eggs during the week! Oh boy....never experienced that... also my friend was told there were no quesadillas...she ordered lettuce wraps with chicken and there was hardly any chicken. I ordered a turkey club without bacon and mayo it was ok..... I feel that the Westward Ho restaurant is a lovely spot but now I would have to say that I am sorry but I am probably not going back given the lack luster service and inability to provide a full menu. read more

You can expect most golf course staff to be salty on the weekends, after all they're dealing with the general public, some of them can be unruly, I totally get it. But, when you hire and train a starter, that is not only rude to people, people he doesn't deem his type of Golfer, it's just disgusting. When I saw that exact opposite behavior displayed towards those who he considers his type of Golfer, you have to question not only management training practices, but the hiring practices at golf courses in 2026. Several times I saw visible minorities, new golfers, and even seasoned golfers who I imagine didn't fit his mold, not receive respectable treatment, and general good service. Several times I sat back and watched him eye people up and down and then decide how he was going to treat them. And several times I saw him be nice gracious, and even crack jokes with older Caucasian male golfers. We were treated far differently. Was it because they were visible minorities in our group, was it because some of us had tattoos, I guess having a single digit handicap and paying full price at a course on the weekends in Vancouver doesn't account for much, and entitles you to be judged and be given very different levels of customer service, even though you are polite and courteous back. Starters and other staff at golf courses around the lower mainland need to get over it. People of color, people that don't fit their Golfer mold, and new golfers shouldn't have to put up with it. Streetwear enthusiasts, visible minorities, a new golfers make up easily half the Tee times since Covid. These dinosaurs need to change or get called out and that's it. Also, charging full price for when the course is still under construction just because there's a lot of golfers since Covid makes this cash grab that much more deplorable. The last round of our golf trip took us to University Golf Club, and it was a super fun course to play. The course is currently under construction with a handful of holes being reduced to par 3s, which is a bummer because they are still charging full price. We had a pretty early round, got there an hour early, and were told to check-in closer to our time to get a cart. They charged the card I booked with so no transaction was needed. The course itself was a good mix of tight tee shots and some where you had some flexibility if you missed left or right. The greens were rolling pretty nice and true. The finishing holes were pretty tough, but being in the tree lined fairways makes this a really pretty place to play. Overall, it's a course I'd definitely play again but not until they open up the full course. read more

Golf club out by the UBC area. This review is for the driving range. Parking is available in the large lot. Not sure why they weren't using the covered tee area at the time, as it was a really hot sunny day. Guess it's more for rainy days. The netting at the back only covers the far end and a bit of the sides, so an errant ball can easily end up on the course. The driving range has 30 spots available, and it wasn't too busy. There are 8 "holes" in the range as well, which gives something to aim at besides the back netting. There is also a very small pro shop selling miscellaneous golf stuff. read more

This is a nice spot to go practice your golf swing. There are 2 designated areas for the warmer and colder seasons. Students get a special rate and there are lessons available. It is a lovely spot that is well-kept. I highly recommend it. read more

Under construction but still full price. The front is basically an executive course. The back is business as usual. Driving range pre game has a 10 person lineup. The marshall tells you he'll answer your questions later even though he's not busy doing anything. Tells you he'll give you keys to the cart later but then forgets and tries to give your cart to someone else. Then you have to remind him minutes before your tee time you still don't have the key. There's much better course condition and vibes out there for the price. Disappointing. read more

Played here at the golf club yesterday, been years since I last ate at the restaurant. We decided to stay and eat. I ordered the breakfast sandwich since I wasn't that hungry. I was really disappointed, they charged $18 for a single sandwich on multigrain bread. Get some real bacon! That makes the difference, I do not recommend ordering this, the bacon they used was tasteless and rubbery. Luckily it came with fries that wasn't too bad. I'm not sure how the other food is, hopefully better what I had. read more

University Golf Club has wide, forgiving fairways. Rolling hills. I golf here with colleagues, annually, for past 10 years. Well-maintained, par 72 course. Friendly staff. Rental clubs are replaced annually. This year's rentals are excellent TaylorMade RBZ Rocket Ballz. Tip: Layer clothes in case cool, even in June. This course is located inside the University Endowment Lands. It's a nicely laid out course with holes that winds through some old growth trees. The one thing I don't like about the course is that the holes are split by 10th ave that runs into the university. You have to cross a busy street to get to certain holes and cross it again to get back. Other than that, it is a nice course to play. read more

Started taking golf lessons and trying out different driving range. Some good things about this place: 1) They offer really great deals on beginner lessons compared to other places 2) The ground is real grass and when you hit the ground with the club, it doesn't hurt as much as cement (in the long run, this is better for your body) 3) On a sunny day, they actually put the mats for the driving range closer 4) no club fees and it's open to the public 5) friendly staff 6) lots of parking 7) golf pro shop and nice restaurant Only one bad thing: 1) not a lot of spaces to practice and at times, it can get busy :( read more

The University Golf Club encompasses many amenities: Westward Ho! restaurant, a driving range, training academy, practice putting area, and 18 hole golf course. I've experienced the training academy, practice putting area, and driving range. The training academy has a really nice space and our instructor was laid back and friendly. I'd definitely go back again if the lessons were cheaper. The practice putting area is near the 1st tee and has a really nice speed to it. It's real grass and it's big enough for 4-5 people at a time. The driving range is real grass and has two sets of mats. One set is in a raised, covered, lit building. The second set is down on the grass about ten yards in front of the building. On nice days the staff let golfers use the second set. Buckets of balls are cheap if you pre-buy a package of them on a card. Finally, the surroundings are gorgeous. It's the most beautiful driving range I've ever been too. read more

Came to BC on vacation, my hotel made reservation for a noon tee time on Wednesday. Tee sheet was packed, which was surprising. The course is not long and neither is the rough, but it isn't length that makes it a challenge. It is narrow in places, very tall trees, almost rain forest like. Go in and you won't come out. The rough is tough to get through, as it should be. The greens were slow, but that is a good thing, because you don't play on the PGA/LPGA tour. Bunkers are very well edged. Rental clubs are brand new Taylor Made. Super friendly folks working there. A couple reasons for no 5 stars, it is a $30 each way can for taxi (not courses fault of course, but still part of the experience) Range are off mats and no balls included with round, lastly, it's crowded in 2 ways. Crowded for play, but also crowded between holes, you won't feel any serene surroundings, it's bisected by a busy road, and noise all around you. See photo. All things considered, it's fun, but value is sketch for about $250 for 2 people, cart and rental clubs. Lastly, we were greeted by a family on the 18th tee box and they walked along the path as we played up. The food at Westward Ho was so good!! . Simple food with great flavours, it's obvious the casual fare on this menu is backed by an experienced chef who knows his stuff! Nothing ordinary here. Lovely setting on the golf course. Kind of place I could eat at every day. Will be back.! read more

We came here for dinner with a pretty large party (8 people) and was looking forward to a nice view and good food. Our waitress was not the most attentive person in the world but I did not expect her to slam my Bloody Caesar on the table and walk away without a word. Simply RUDE. We had a dirty dish and some confetti like material in our cups. The food was good but the quality of service could be improved. It was the annual VST Chancellor's Dinner at the UBC golf club and the three course dinner was great. I've been to a lot of large banquets at this place and I've always been impressed with the venue and the food. In fact I had my wedding banquet at this place over 25 years ago, so if you are looking for a place for a big party you might want to consider this venue. At the Chancellor's dinner the salad with scallops and prawns was yummy. The main course was a choice of halibut it beef (I had the halibut and it was nicely cooked - moist and well seasoned). Other people at my table had the beef and it looked good too. For dessert I had a chocolate cake. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have salt and pepper on the table. read more

A Non Members Golf Club has some nice turf to talk about since 1928 when it started. Its a Vancouver jewel, that offers much more than 18 holes. It has a large driving range, full list of lessons available, banquet rooms, catering, restaurant, bar, large pro shop, locker rooms, even a golf museum. Most of the dining space over looks parts of the golf course. The actual course its self is very mature lined with old growth, 60% flat, some water, and has lots of forgiving play. Sweet location sitting on the same ridge that UBC is on which gives you mountain & some ocean views. The course is very accommodating for beginners but also have a huge following of serious players. Its a great location to host a event or a party or just drop in for a beer and watch a game. read more

Just played here this weekend...it's a course layout I enjoy and have played many times in the past. Price and pace of play this weekend just killed it for me. Surprised to see the rate around $75, it's not worth that at all IMO. Walking down the first fairway, the amount of dead spots in the grass didn't bode well. A few times in the round in the fairway I ended up with lies where there was no grass underneath the ball....in the fairway. Pace of play on the back nine was glacial, a few times rolling up to tees and the group ahead not even teed off yet....didn't notice much marshalling going on. All in all very disappointing experience for a course I've enjoyed before. I could have swallowed the conditions and pace a little more if not for the price. read more

I was at the driving range today. Later, I was walking my dog and I decided to drop into the Pro Shop to enquire about purchasing a pull cart. I was advised that they do not sell pull carts. I had with my very well behaved poodle on a leash. As I was leaving the store, I stopped to look at some merchandise with the intent on purchasing. However, a handyman stopped me and asked me to leave with my dog. I paused for a second, and he asked me to "leave right NOW". I advised that I had planned on buying but found him inhospitable, in comparison to other establishments. He said that "we run a restaurant and dogs are not allowed". I was nowhere near the restaurant located at the far end of the hall. I note that other patrons stopped to pet and admire my dog. However, I left disgruntled because of the interaction with the handyman and will not spend any money in the Pro Shop now. read more

The restaurant here is really sub par for a golf club in an area such as this to be honest you'd think it would be more higher end than this. Took private golf lessons. I'd say they were average like the instructor wasn't totally into it and I thought I could have learned a lot more of he was more into teaching than what he was so it was just meh! read more

New restaurant management??... Been going here for years and it was always very good. Not now. The other night; horrible. Not our waitress who was sweet and apologetic. Where do we begin? The veggies were so hard they were inedible, the meat was tough, the food was cold, the 'roast potatoes' were not roasted; they were over boiled & oily, to the point of baby food (so gross), they didn't bring our to-go soup, which they charged us for, the loud-taker manger guy who was poorly dressed wouldn't stop talking and added to the disaster. Asked him for something and we went off to the bar to talk about himself, forgetting or ignoring us. Then there was the party of 68(?) that began streaming in beside us and another larger party of 8 who came in and sat on the other side of us, trapping us in between. Literally, we couldn't hear each other. Why wouldn't you close the place for a huge private party?? The experience didn't end there; we had severe stomach aches within 30 minutes, and the rest of the night was rather unpleasant, putting it mildly. After over 15 yrs patronizing them, it's gone beyond disappointing and the food is becoming worse each time. I see no reason to ever go back. It was inexcusably bad. EPIC FAIL!! read more

Have only used the driving range so far...very good and quite busy some days

the restaurant we are locals so have been to this clubhouse many times - We kept giving it a chance because the location and scenery are quite nice. But, after last nights dinner we decided that until they change their chef and stop serving wilty salad and tasteless meals to their clientele it is not good value and therefore not worthy of our hard earned money. the service attitude is pretty good for the most part although poorly trained on many levels - ie wiping tables off into the laps of clients, more than once! Sorry but I am fed up and very disappointed . The golf course itself is great but we will take our business down to 10th ave from now on. read more
