    Driving range hours~ (June 2021)
    Edward L.

Golf club out by the UBC area. This review is for the driving range. Parking is available in the large lot. Not sure why they weren't using the covered tee area at the time, as it was a really hot sunny day. Guess it's more for rainy days. The netting at the back only covers the far end and a bit of the sides, so an errant ball can easily end up on the course. The driving range has 30 spots available, and it wasn't too busy. There are 8 "holes" in the range as well, which gives something to aim at besides the back netting. There is also a very small pro shop selling miscellaneous golf stuff.

This is a nice spot to go practice your golf swing. There are 2 designated areas for the warmer and colder seasons. Students get a special rate and there are lessons available. It is a lovely spot that is well-kept. I highly recommend it.

Limited hours during the winter-- but the range is still open.

The University Golf Club encompasses many amenities: Westward Ho! restaurant, a driving range, training academy, practice putting area, and 18 hole golf course. I've experienced the training academy, practice putting area, and driving range. The training academy has a really nice space and our instructor was laid back and friendly. I'd definitely go back again if the lessons were cheaper. The practice putting area is near the 1st tee and has a really nice speed to it. It's real grass and it's big enough for 4-5 people at a time. The driving range is real grass and has two sets of mats. One set is in a raised, covered, lit building. The second set is down on the grass about ten yards in front of the building. On nice days the staff let golfers use the second set. Buckets of balls are cheap if you pre-buy a package of them on a card. Finally, the surroundings are gorgeous. It's the most beautiful driving range I've ever been too.

Fish tacos at Westward Ho / University golf were amazing!

Great casual food if a little pricey, but you could never find better service! And the balcony on a warm day amazing!

For a public course this is your best bet in the city. Always in great condition and isn't over priced. Enjoy.

What's cool about this spot is that is a low risk way to try out some golf. The longest hole is 100 yards, with most being 75 or less. There were a ton of beginners and first timers playing so it's definitely not a place where pace of play is a priority. There's no tee time required, just walk up and get in line on the first tee. For Americans, the cost for 2 people to play was around $19 for $18 holes. Every tee box has a mat that you hit off of to start reach hole. The greens aren't great, so not the best place to practice putting. When we visited, there were single golfers, groups of 8, and everything in between. Most people dropped off after 9 holes, so we played the second 9 pretty quick. Overall, it's a fun course to get some swings in and have some beers on the course. Not the best to practice putting but a great spot to practice wedges. Don't know if I'd play again but I had a really good time regardless.

There are some geese around that might get aggressive, so be careful. You can borrow golf clubs from the staff, and they also sell refreshments.

Well, unless another wedding invite graces my mail box, there's no way I could get in. To get on the waiting list for membership is $25k on it's own. Plus, I don't wear my pants up at my armpits or take dinner before 5pm. The view is gorgeous. You can see the Grouse Grind and Vancouver from the expansive patio that faces the course. The greens look like they're kept in immaculate form. (I wonder if there's a wee little garden gnome out there in the early morning hours grooming them with a pair of shears! What else would they do with all those annual dues?) The staff is friendly, professional and on top of their game. They were awesome about bringing vegetarian dishes to the lone vegetarian at our table and kept the drinks coming! The food was decent. It's exactly what you'd expect at a golf course, although, as I mentioned, I was there for a wedding, so we possibly were privy to an exclusive menu - Shrimp Cocktail? Lobster thermidor? Dim sum dumplings as appetizers? Don't mind if I do!

The course itself was a lot of fun and the greens were in pretty good shape! The par 5s are reachable in 2, the par 3s aren't super tough, and the course as whole offers challenges for both good and beginner golfers. When we went, they were only allowing golf carts on the first 9 holes, and walking only on the back (due to construction) so we decided to get a push cart for the entire round. This was a great decision. The course is flatter without a ton of elevation, so it was a fairly easy course to walk. Getting a tee time, you can do so through their online portal. They charge a booking fee to book ahead of time, but it's worth it. We waited until the week before and the only available tee times were early morning or late late afternoon. If this is a course you want to play, definitely book as far ahead as possible.
