The only reason University Group gets a star is because Yelp makes me. This is the WORST living situation I have EVER had to deal with. Let me give you a few situations I have come across in the first six months of my lease...
.) When we first moved in we were finding cockroaches on the stairs and in the closet. I went in to let them know what was going on and they informed me they would call to get the situation fixed. Four days later, someone finally showed up to spray our apartment. Two weeks later we were still seeing cockroaches although they said the spray would only take a week. When I went in to let them know the cockroaches were not gone, UG maintenance told me not to worry because they are a water bugs not cockroaches (FYI, water bugs ARE cockroaches). A week later, the situation was still not taken care of so I went back in. They informed me someone would be over tomorrow. I may have lost my cool at this point and I may have yelled a little too much at the maintenance man. I told him I was calling another company to get the situation fixed and they told me I was not allowed to. Finally after I called the owner of the bug company someone finally did a more drastic spray of my apartment.
.) The window in my bedroom would not stay up on its own from day one. Since I didn't want to spend money on AC, I wanted my window open. When someone came over, they informed me that my window could not be fixed because when they changed the windows a while back they installed the window incorrectly. Just a side note, the people who come and actually fix things are SO nice but the people in charge are totally incompetent.
.)This is a simple yet terrible complaint. There was a FINAL NOTICE posted on the laundry room of my building because UG was not paying the water bill. Between my roommate and I, we were paying $30/month TO UG for WATER. What the HELL are they spending our money on?
.) I was blow drying my hair one afternoon when all of a sudden a group of people were walking into my apartment. I scrambled to put a shirt on and then watched as a leasing agent unapologetically showed my apartment. While he did this, I casually mention to the parents of the girls that a drunk broke into my apartment the night before. Oh, did I mention that? A DRUNK BROKE INTO MY APARTMENT, fell asleep on my couch, and UG DID NOT CARE!
.)Over winter break, I was about to get ready for a job interview when I realized the water was not working. My initial thought was they didn't pay for the water again. Turns out they had an "unforeseen emergency" and they hit a water pipe and had to shut off the water. They couldn't give me a time of when the water would be on and they had no intentions of letting me know that the water was shut off. Some great examples of communication!!
.) I'm assuming due to the incorrect installation of my bedroom window, a major crack started and grew in my window. I am not a crazy person who has crazy parties so there was no way that I broke this window. I put a work order in through the internet. Four weeks later nothing had happened so I called and asked what was going on. When I talked to someone, they said they would call me back in a half hour. Two hours later, they called to let me know that the "glass company lost the order for my window". Yeah...I'll believe that. Regardless, I just stated I wanted it fixed so I said okay and told them to just deal with it. Three weeks later I still have not heard anything about my window. I went in to talk to someone about what was going on. The lady I talked to was INSANE (more on this later). She told me maintenance was not here so she can't help me. She told me to fill out a form and someone will call me. I bet it will be another few weeks until something happens.
.) So the lady at UG... She was on the phone when I walked in so I waited until she greet me. She said how can I help you, was rude about my question, then went back to her phone call. I don't know who she was talking to but she said if you don't have a pen and paper ready then I don't have time for you because there were only two people in the office today and she had a showing in five minutes then hung up. This is the real kicker. She walked over to the boys who were finishing up signing their lease and she was a ray of sunshine all of a sudden!! She had a complete 180 flip on her mood. Moral of the story? UG WILL BE THE NICEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD UNTIL YOU SIGN YOUR LEASE AND THEN THEY DON'T CARE AT ALL ABOUT YOU!!!
