: Incredible Administrative Care, but Completely Let Down by the Providers:I have very mixed emotions about my visit here. On one hand, I want to give a massive shoutout to Kristen White. She was incredibly professional, genuinely listened to my requests, and took excellent care of me. In a moment when I was in extreme pain and feeling completely overwhelmed, Kristen made me feel like an actual human being. Her empathy and customer service were a solid 5/5 stars.Unfortunately, the medical care from the actual providers was deeply disappointing. I came in with an acute sports injury after hearing a physical "pop" in my foot, experiencing swelling on the top of my foot, and dealing with severe nerve pain. They took X-rays but didn't bother to sit down, look at them with me, or properly explain a clear diagnosis. Instead, they completely dismissed a severe structural injury as basic plantar fasciitis, handed me some topical gel, and sent me on my way.To make matters worse, they told me it was "normal to work under these conditions"--completely ignoring the fact that my daily job requires heavy pulling, pushing, and lifting of heavy objects. Because they refused to give me an immobilization boot or take the soft-tissue damage seriously, I have spent days favoring my left leg. I have now developed agonizing sciatica from straining my back just trying to hobble around.Kristen White deserves a promotion for her outstanding humanity and professionalism, but the medical providers seriously need to re-evaluate how they dismiss patients with acute traumatic injuries. read more

You would think that the receptionist would offer my friend a wheelchair as he is doing his intake forms standing in the check-in window bent over in extreme pain, back throbbing Additionally the employee that works in X-ray, they toss you around like a salad in there and don't even consider the pain before laying a hand on me. I hope I never get ill because I don't trust any of these doctors, PAs, etc!!!! read more

Their appointment scheduling system is the worst I have ever encountered. 45 minutes or more to schedule an appointment. You can't call the provider's office directly- one main number to reach all providers part of University Orthopedics. Absolutely terrible!!! read more

this place ruined my life and most days I can barely walk or bend up and down. Dr Tian esp. they ignore the paperwork you fill out. care even less that you're in pain and only push procedures that only waste money. to top it all off even though my condition has worsened they screwed up my assistance I was receiving. its 2025...at some point a person is going to snap and everyone's gonna end up on the news. read more

I was an emergency and selected Miriam from the ambulance Luckily Dr. Jenkins was assigned to me and did a wonderful job. I have never had any pain after the surgery 6 years ago and am fully active again. He is caring and takes time to answer my questions. I can't say enough about him!​ read more

Lesson learned. Won't come here again. It's a money making mill. Unnecessary appointments. People are ok. But they don't care about the patient. They care about everyone's piece of the pie. They're canceling my surgery because I can't go to a class. I'm not doing the surgery. I don't a need a class. I need surgery. Went because of hip pain. X-ray was normal. Nurse Practitioner spoke to me for 5 minutes, had me move my leg in two directions, then told me I could do a hip replacement or try cortisone shots. Never checked for spasm. No mention of PT. Called my regular doc and asked for PT. Physical therapist did a full exam, checked for and found spasm. After two treatments symptoms substantially resolved. When I walked into University Orthopedics it was like Grand Central Station. I could not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I'd been a long time patient who was just there the end of December but when I called in March as my doctor advised to get my Cortizone shots I was told he only saw kids now. Now I was in a flare up and instead of just continuing where the other doctor left off - they told me I was basically a new patient now would have to see a PA before I could see a substitute doctor at the same practice and as this doctor like MRIs I was told mid flare that I'd have to come in a minimum of 3 times fight NHP for an MRI approval which could take weeks so all said and done I would be waiting at least a month and half before any treatment. I was annoyed bc the other doctors at this practice had insisted for years my issue was just muscles and now they were withholding treatment until an MRI was done. It was most annoying that no one contacted me to tell me I had no doctor or the doctor was stopping adults by X date to give his patients the chance to get in one last time with him for treatment. Since they are treating us like we are totally new patients to the practice and started over from scratch like we don't have years of history from a provider within their walls we should have been given the same notice if he was leaving the practice. And also informed us we'd be starting over with a new doctor so we could book early and made sure we had gotten through the whole PA before doctor so they can bill up the insurance for them to say exactly the same thing so there would be no interruption in care / treatment. The worst time ever to find out you have no doctor and have to start over as a new patient is when you in a flare up of the condition that you go to that practice for. Legally patient are supported to be given a month minimum notice when their doctor is leaving retiring etc for this exact reason giving patients time to make other arrangements so they aren't left without treatment and their condition is worsened. read more

The worst. The only way that I can explain how bad they are. Is that the people who work here hate their job. the support staff is incompetent and cannot even direct a person to the correct doctor. They should be seeing. This is the worst healthcare facility I have ever been in. And I use the term healthcare quite loosely because they should not even be in business. read more

The staff who books appointments are incompetent and some are rude. They do not know about insurance policies. They do not converse with each other or put notes in patient's account, due to them calling me 3 times about the same thing. I explained to them I have a new PCP which I have an appointment in a few weeks. Also, my insurance does not require me to have a referral and I understand the copay doubles. 1 out 3 of them understood. The last call I got, I cancelled the appointment and the woman hung up on me. read more

We have used University Orthopedics for both kids, wrist surgery and multiple ankle injuries. Dr. Budaki has been a fabulous provider. Today I made multiple calls due to insurance change and I spoke to two different receptionist who were fantastic, Christine even called me back with updated information and was able to get me into the Dr. Highly recommended! read more

I have used them without being injured on the job. Everything went smoothly. However, I was injured on the job and have federal department of labor paying my medical bills. I was referred to the office and set up an appointment. I arrive and again inform them that this is an on the job injury. Of course they act like I and the doctor who referred me didn't tell them. We did. So, they did not collect a copay, gave me a number to call the person who handles the dol accounts (I asked to give them the info on the spot and was told to just call the number later), and they sent me in to be seen. I thought all was well, the doctor was phenomenal. I get home and call the number and wait 2 days for a call back then play a little phone tag just to find out. Oh, they shouldn't have said we take that. Sorry and rushed off the phone. Sorry? If I had known they hadn't taken it, I wouldn't have gone through with the visit. I wasn't given that option. Twice, I have written them that I will not be paying the bill and I have submitted it to the dol for payment. In my mind I'm doing all I can to help get this bill paid. Well today I received a threatening letter saying I've ignored them. No, I haven't. I am sending another letter asking them please don't ignore it. I was taught to put everything in writing. They can deny anything said on a phone call. So here's hoping they will own up to their mistake. read more

I recently had spinal fusion surgery by Dr. Bryce Basques, University Orthopedics. I had been suffering with severe pain in my leg for seven months to the point that it interfered with every aspect of my life. Dr. Basque performed a minimally invasive procedure and from that first day, I know longer had the pain! I am five weeks post-op, and cannot believe how life changing this surgery was. I am walking pain free and am on the road to recovering fully. Dr. Basque is not only a world class spinal surgeon, he is one of the most compassionate and caring physicians that I have ever encountered. He takes the time to listen fully to questions and concerns while providing thorough and understandable explanations. He called me personally for several days after the surgery. I can't say enough positive things about him and highly recommend Dr. Basques to anyone who is suffering with back or leg pain. read more

I had shoulder surgery with Dr. Paxton last August. The surgery was not successful, and he might have noticed that I wasn't healing properly if he had spent more than 5 minutes (and this is generous) with me for my post op visits. Instead I endured PT sessions 3x a week, a tongue lashing from Dr. Paxton that I had not been able to meet my % of extension and lastly a painful cortisone shot which his Resident (not quite sure because he was never introduced to me while observing my visit) mocked me for when I said it was painful, no apologies, nothing! I have a fairly high tolerance for pain and have had several cortisone shots prior but man that one hurt -- maybe because my shoulder was still healing from surgery. In any case, I wish I had known more before letting someone cut me open, so here it is... Beware if you chose this practice for shoulder surgery! I was able to get my shoulder operated on and thankfully it was successful, but I had to leave RI. I hope this helps someone =) read more

While I think Dr. Evans is a good trauma surgeon, I think if you're having issues post surgery like I did, I would get a second opinion. For the first year after my patella ORIF (after a fall) it seemed like I had pretty good results, but had continuous swelling and discomfort after vigorous activity. After 1.5-2 years I still had atrophy and pain, which started to affect the opposite side of body. I went to Dr. Evans a few times for x-rays, and then I asked him for an MRI, which he did do, because I felt something was not right and my knee was getting worse. He brushed it off as arthritis and referred me to a rheumatologist. I'm 41 and active and this did not sit well with me. I could not do all the things I was used to doing. Long story short, went to a surgeon who specializes in knees. I had a grade 4 defect in the cartilage around knee, which most likely happened on my fall, and was not degenerative in nature (not sure of this was missed during my ORIF, will never know). Also had a bone spur, not attributed to fall. Doctors cannot know everything and the point is you know your body, so get a second opinion if you are not satisfied with what the doc says. While I believe his intentions are good, he should probably listen more authentically to his patients, because they know their body best. read more

I had my both hips replaced by Dr. Rubin and received physical therapy sessions following the surgeries. I strongly recommend the doctor and therapists at University Orthopedics, I suffered with severe pain for many years, could not find a doctor who was willing to take on my case and find someone I felt comfortable with. I have been to large hospitals in Boston! My search had paid off big time when my lucky star guided me to Dr. Rubin. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Miriam Hospital stay was very pleasant as well. Meeting Dr. Rubin and following great therapies really really changed my life! read more

Amazing doctors, physical therapists, and facilities. The doctors are all very well educated and their staff are friendly as well. They also do a very good job of matching their patients to the physical therapists both in specialty and personality. The PTs are all very friendly and make the rehab time a fun experience (as much as limping around from multiple injuries can be). I highly recommend University Orthopedics at any of their campuses. read more

I used to see Dr. Tabaddor when he was w/South County Hospital. He operated on my right knee when I was having issues and no other Dr. would do anything except push PT or injections. Once he switched to UO, he changed. I now had issues w/my left knee. It was so painful to walk and when I'd extend/bend my knee, there was a noticeable pop. It felt as though my knee had been dislocated. He sent in a student to examine me, then he came in. He wouldn't show me my x-rays the way he used to while explaining his diagnosis. He said I have a history of arthritis and all he could recommend was PT or an injection. At my first visit after he switched practices, I was feeling the same pain I had in my right knee. He told me the pain was due to onset arthritis. Now 2 yrs later, w/this new dislocated feeling, he used the arthritis excuse to push PT/injections. When I persisted about the pain and concerned it would get worse, he said maybe down the road someday a knee replacement might be possible, but nothing else for now. Meanwhile, there were chunks of black/green colored insulation coming out of the vent in the ceiling behind him while he spoke. My mom had 2 back surgeries by Dr. Lucas at this practice. She's had nothing but problems and massive pain ever since. Moral of the story, don't go to this practice. read more

I had an appointment on 1/22/18 and showed up on time with my shoulder X-rays. A tech met me and I gave her my films and she said to me that this doctor would not even look at these as he liked his own films. So I had to have an entire new set of xrays for thsi doctor. I was then put in a room where I was attended to by a Resident! He went through all sorts of motions. Never asked if any one of these hurt. Nothing! He then stated that the doctor would be in shortly. As he was closing the door I heard him say this "GUY" has a sprain! Doctor comes in, RUDE, arrogant and stated that , after he did a few pull this, squeeze my fingers , don't let me move your arms, "YOU HAVE A SPRAIN"! If it still bothers you call for an appointment in 8 to 10 weeks. I was so mad I couldn't even speak I just left. Went to another MD and he ordered an MRI that had quite a different result than a sprain. It showed a torn rotator cuff, torn labrum and a lot of arthritis. not a SPRAIN! I wouldn't suggest anyone go to this place. He was more interested in looking pretty than really caring about his PATIENTS. He has to remember that he is only a Doctor. Not god. I would not want to be a resident as this guy has nothing to teach except how to look pretty! The funny thing was that I knew I had a torn rotator cuff before I went in, had one before. When I tried to tell this so called doctor he blew me off. Just have a sprain, use Ice. I will NEVER go to UNIVERSITY ORTHO AGAIN! I will tell everyone I know not to go there. I will make this spread as far as possible. Because of this guys misdiagnosis I have had to suffer in pain for an extended amount of time. He may be hearing from me again! read more

University Orthopedics has a new facility located at Kettle Point on Veteran's Memorial Parkway. I cannot say enough about ALL of the people who work there, from the doctors to the therapists and the secretaries. I received EXCELLENT health care for my wrist and hand, after I broke, and split my radius. Surgery meant four screws and a plate. I thought my wrist would never heal properly, but now I have hope that it has recovered nearly completely. Therapists at University don't play​, but they do give you exactly what is needed to heal pain, stiffness, ​and disability. I cannot say enough​ about the doctors and profesionals. They are amazing and it is a miracle that I have full movement back. read more

In 2012 I had back surgery performed by Alexander Robertson MD. It was a complete failure and caused incontinence and the need to be in a wheelchair as I was unable to walk with such very severe pain. 2 wonderful Surgeons at Mass General hospital had to remove the hardware, decompress the trapped nerve and start again. I have waited this long to write a review because I recently heard of someone who was using him. Let my story be a strong warning that you should NEVER use this person. I would give a minus rating if I could. A disgrace to University Orthopedics, who otherwise have fine competent Surgeons. read more

I have had hip pain for four years, countless injections and seen Dr. Daniels and Dr. Schiller. Both who have tried, without success to cure me, but were very nice and cared. Today I saw Dr. Cohen who was rude, abrupt and had no bedside manner. I am changing practices after four years because they can not find the source of my pain and by hiring such a horrible doctor as Dr. Cohen. read more

Most mismanaged office is Dr. Derek R Jenkins office. I called for an appointment on 4/12/18 and was told to have previous Dr fax records to Dr Jenkins after which they would schedule an appointment. I then called more than 12 times to get an appointment. Each call reached his voicemail. Left a callback number each time and never got a return call. I made one last call on May21st and will never call again read more

I can't say enough great things about Dr.Mark Palumbo. I injured my back at work, had some disc issues with horrible pain to the point I could barely walk. Went to several Drs. before Dr. Palumbo who sent me to therapy, pain management, injections etc. Nothing worked. Finally had enough and after doing some research found University Orthopedics and Dr. Palumbo. He saw me that week and after looking at my MRI saw the issue and explained how it could be fixed. He was very understanding and never rushed me. I know when you go to most Drs they have many patients to see so you feel rushed at times because they want to move on to the next patient, not Dr. Palumbo he made sure you had no unanswered questions before he left you. Well anyway I needed surgery . Dr. Palumbo met with me in Pre-op, explained everything in detail as to what was going to happen, spoke with my wife and let her know that he would personally call her when he was done to tell her how everything went. When I woke up from the surgery the staff at RI Hospital took good care of me. Dr. Palumbo came in that night to make sure I was doing well, came in the next morning to make sure I was doing well and called before I was discharged to check on me again. Recovery was a little rough but that's to be expected but with the help of the University Orthopedics Physical therapists I made a speedy recovery. When other Drs . said I would not ever be able to work my very physical job again, Dr. Palumbo proved them wrong. I have been back to work for over a year now. read more

I went to the ankle specialist at Univ Ortho. He kept me waiting about an hour, and walked in the room with two interns, with whom he was more engaged. He asked me where the ankle hurt and I told him all over. He said isolate one spot, and then jumped to the conclusion that subtalar arthritis was my problem. He recommended a steroid injection which turned out to be useless and prescribed a very expensive brace, which also turned out to be useless. He told me if I wasn't better in six months, to come back and he would fuse the ankle. All told, he spent 12 minutes with me and treated me like a teaching specimen. I did some research on ankle fusing and every fiber of my being was saying 'run away from this jerk!' I had seen my MRI and knew there were multiple problems in the ankle so I spent 6 months looking for a better doctor and finally found one. This doc repaired 3 ligaments, two of which were torn, took out a bone chip and cleaned up the rough joint surfaces. I am now pain free and the injured ankle is stronger than the 'good' one. If I had listened to the 'ankle specialist', I'd now have a fused ankle and would still be suffering because the real root causes of my pain would not have been addressed. Some people never heal from ankle fusion. The competent doctor tells me fusing is the very last resort, even after ankle replacement. My advice: run away from the ankle specialist at Univ Ortho. Or if you can't run, hobble really fast and find a better doctor. read more

I think doctors are fine and physical therapists are great, but I have had an unpleasant experience with management of office. Here's my story: I needed to schedule earliest possible appointment and was told that only one time/date was available. I changed my schedule to make that time. Then when I arrived for appointment, I was told that, as of 1 week ago, doctor no longer saw patients at Providence location. I was told my appointment was for East Greenwich office. Unfortunately, no one ever bothered to inform me of this change. I received no phone call, no text, no email. Secretary at Providence office simply told me I "was supposed to show up" at East Greenwich office. Well, it would have been nice to have been told that before I showed up at Providence, before I re-arranged my schedule, and before I missed an event at my son's school. read more

I recently had hip replacement by Dr Limbird. I have to say that he has been great and his entire staff, as well. The pain that I had prior to surgery is gone and I'm just dealing with the soreness from the surgery which is normal. Working with Joe DeOrsey for PT and he is outstanding to work with. I am 0-for-2 on my PT sessions here. Both therapists were nice and seem knowledgable but the first one kept me waiting for 15 minutes and the second one started my appt 45 minutes late with barely an apology. I'll update if it gets better - I have 6 more to go but if they're late on the next two I am finding another group to see a therapist. read more
