My life was destroyed going to this University Spine facility. I saw dr. Emami a week prior to surgery. He explained in detail on having a procedure called disctetomy. The day of the surgery I don't see Emami before or after immediate surgery. The following day, I was told that all procedures went well by an associate by the name of Dr. Kumar at my hospital room? I ask what he meant with procedures and informed that I was at the hospital for a disctetomy. He replied by saying "oh no" and that I had laminectomy, fusion with rods and screws, grafting, etc. I was taken aback to say the least. I requested for my file post surgery and realized what this office did to me. After Emami explained to me in detail about performing a discectomy at his office, his nurse practioner Michelle Brenner came to the evaluation room with a batch of forms for me to sign. In that batch was BLANK CONSENT FORMS. Emami, along with Michelle Brenner and the other two associate, Dr. Kumar and Dr. Whang, of which I never met or consulted prior to this elaborate procedure, had also signed the consent form making it look like I consulted with them as well, and made it look like I agreed to this surgery never discussed with me.
This was a crime what these doctors did to me and were all in cahoot and in concert. I had all sorts of difficulty working and walking and I ended up collapsing in my home a short time later. I lost lots of nerve endings in my left leg. This Dr. Emami ended up crippling me. He misled me to collect insurance money in the amount of almost $250,000 (a quarter of a million dollars). I now walk with a waddle and a limp and I will walk for the rest of my life with a cane. I now experience pain in my back on a daily basis, compounded by now struggling to walk short distances. I can't walk through a mall and have difficulty even food shopping. I can't even do house cleaning and I'm always losing my balance where I have fallen in the streets. Needless to say, I'm embarrassed to be seen in public and have lost out on attending events, like family weddings and I just can"t attend any functions.
I ended up at Hospital for Special surgery where I ended having 2 revision surgeries at different times from honest, reputable doctors. Due to the loss of the nerve endings, I also had a ligament transpose on my left leg to see if I can build strength; it was a gamble and it didn't better my strength. Since I am walking so poorly, I ended having meniscus surgery on my right leg. All these surgeries were bought on by being misled by this Dr. Emami and his associates. My Insurance carrier has paid out over a million dollars seeing various doctors, paying out for multi surgeries, coupled with physical therapy. I now rely on pain killers to make it through the course of a day. These doctors, along with nurse practitioner Michelle Brenner, should have their medical license revoked and be behind bars for a long time for this crime committed.
