Several years ago I sustained a spinal injury, as an Occupational Therapist, I hoped to find a Spine Specialist who provides least invasive surgery. At my visit Dr Emami first asked about symptoms, provided assessment and required imaging for definitive diagnosis. The second question was Amy, what have you tried first? and discussed non surgical options, I thought to myself how interesting a surgeon who tries to avoid surgery and this was very reassuring. It was determined based on findings that surgery was necessary. to stabilize my lumbar spine. Dr. Emami performed least invasive approach and discussed every aspect of the surgery. Once recovered I was able to follow up for after care with Physical Therapy as per Dr's. orders. even following surgery , I was supported regarding recovery and returned to my prior very active job full capacity. I am writing about a residual issue from severe whiplash injury . As I continue to express I am feeling emotional as I write this review. Recently , I had an emergent event. My left arm felt very weak and my hand began to shake uncontrollably., my feet felt like I was walking on sponges, I was unable to urinate properly, and I became extremely dizzy. I am an Occupational Therapist so, I immediately new that it was likely a concern related to my spine. due to prior VERY SUCCESSFUL outcome, I called Dr Emam's office . Given my symptoms , I was directed to the ER with Dr. Emami's team waiting. Kassie Physician's Assistant, was so knowledgeable and almost literally held my hand throughout the entire experience. Knowing that I could reach out to her also helped with very much needed emotional support . following MRI it determined that Spinal fusion was necessary to prevent permanent loss of function. In addition to the support provided every step of the way, Dr. Emami is a caring , compassionate person who looks patients in the eye rather than at a computer screen. I would like to add that throughout this very scary time, with the additional Covid Precautions from the stellar office staff, scribe ( so that Dr can listen rather than type). I can go on and on but this is a review, not a novel. I am currently recovering and making remarkable progress. I had minimal pain 1 day after surgery I am completely pain free now, no longer have bladder issues and I can feel the floor when I walk. I feel so BLESSED being in the rehabilitation field, I have treated many patients who were not as fortunate. In addition, I am somewhat of a vain woman and have a very small scar. I am eternally grateful and now have the quality of life I have hoped for.
