A stroll around the large parking lot is a good way to see what stores are here and browse in each for something to purchase and bring home. The Whole Foods Market is definitely a huge treat for me to walk around then hit it last to find something to cook or snack or enjoy their most tastefully and expertly decorated baked items along with lots of breads to choose from. So Derby Street Shops is like a one stop shopping place. I like that and go home with everything I needed and wanted.

That was a pleasant surprise and I will definitely be going back to buy a jar to keep at home. A great stop if you want something rich, unique, and worth the calories.

Lord and Taylor are still empty, as is California Pizzeria. That flummoxed me, California Pizzeria. No clue why it closed. Always packed. Reasonable prices. Not bad food either. Perhaps a victim of COVID-19? I don't remember, but I remember it was good for my daughters. Davio's was palace my bride and would go every other month. Or we'd meet my daughters there when they were home from college. Why'd they close? Always busy. No place to get a cup of coffee... even the Starbucks left. SSP has changed in many ways, and not for the better.

the layout of the entire plaza is so spread out and detached from one another -- there are at least…read more5 parcels of retail areas that are separated by traffic -- making it too exhausting and even dangerous to walk around on foot (and it's outdoor!), but it's ridiculous to store-hop on wheels. maybe they design it for the "1 destination, in and out" shopping style? if so, then they are quite successful. but even the traffic flow layout it's just plain ridiculous, bordering on hazardous. in an attempt to prevent speeding, stop signs and raised dividers are everywhere, which is fine by itself. but the overall design just makes one feel like they're in a corn maze, making stops and turns every 3 seconds. going from Washington Street to Shaw's averages just about 13 turns/stops. landscaper needs to be fired as well. why are tall grasses placed so strategically that one would almost think that they did it on purpose just to block drivers' sight line for oncoming traffic? not like they have something against car insurance company... maybe it's just me, but for the number of times i come here, that's bc i know there's a store i need/want to visit. with the current layout, there isn't much chance to wander around to "see what's there". you must know where you need to go coming in, and you won't realize that some shops have existed no matter how many times you've been here.

GAP, Bath & Body Works, Hallmark, Hilliard's Chocolate, Talbots, and the list goes on and on. Places just keep closing. And why, you ask. Well, I am almost sure I have the answer. Location. It's in a remote location away from major highways and lots of traffic. Even though a fair amount of people from the local Canton, Sharon and Stoughton area do come here, there isn't enough to make it a destination for shopping, there just simply isn't enough. Plus, lots of the chain stores here are not competitive with their counterparts... Shaw's here doesn't compare to the brand new Norwood Shaw's (that was just renovated), Marshalls here doesn't compare to the also brand new Westwood Marshalls (well, it's ok), and more and more of the other stores people just do not go to. The current list of stores consists of : Starbucks UPS Store Bertucci's Partners Urgent Care (coming soon) Orange Leaf Five Guys Olympia Gourmet Garden Mattress Firm Shaw's Village Toy Shop GNC GameStop SuperCuts Verizon Paper Store Marshalls Chico's LOFT Shoe Dept. I honestly shouldn't say too many great things about the renovations to the parking lot yet.... they added tons of islands and curbs inside each parking row. With the winter season on the way I am hopeful these will stay in the condition they are in. Hope isn't reality though.... I am nearly certain that the curb cuts are too tight for all of the plowing vehicles, but we will just wait and see. Anyway, the entire plaza looks great. Everything was completely redone and renovated. Everything looks brand new. My favorite changes are the addition of so many plants and the changes to the parking areas. It definitely seems considerably more user friendly and safe for pedestrians. They added many benches and what appears a small "garden" like area in front of TJ Maxx too. Pavement was all repaved and all the stores just look completely refreshed. Definitely some great improvements made, keeping Norwood look great. I commend Gravestar (the company who owns this shopping center) for putting the time and money into Norwood's largest in-town shopping center (you know, in-town meaning NOT on Route 1!). 4 stars.

Plainville Commons is a decent sized shopping center built about 13 years or so ago…read more It's located off of Route 1 in Plainville, right by the Wrentham town line. It's located south of the intersection at Route 1 & Route 152, and right off I-495 (exit 14) for Rt 1 towards Attleborough. Main point, it's in a convenient location. While it's not as large as it probably should have been built (especially with the casino across the street now....), it has some decent stores and an ideal setup. The parking lot is large, spread out and perfect for this type of complex. Sometimes a back up occurs at the beginning of one of the closest parking lanes, but it's never too much of a problem. Only complaint with parking is that Chili's NEVER has enough parking. Getting in and out of here is also easy. They recently replaced the traffic light at the intersection of the plaza and Taunton Street, and made it even easier. The flow of traffic is actually surprisingly good and much better than most other shopping centers I can think of. That being said, this area isn't nearly as busy as where most other big-box shopping centers. This shopping center consists of: Chili's Target Stop&Shop TJ Maxx / HomeGoods Sleepy's (or Mattress Firm now?) Panera (and possibly something else I'm forgetting) Good place to stop if you are in the area, or looking for some shopping after winning big at the casino across the street! Only real complaint about the shopping center is that it's so spread out that other buildings could be built to make it bigger, better, and more of a destination. Late in the evening, there was plenty of parking. The plaza is anchored by the Shaw's grocery store but there is also a Marshalls here among others. Two major entrances, one of which has a traffic light. You could also sneak out by the fast food place or out the back past Shaw's. It is a short walk to the T station but don't be tempted to park here for the T. They have signs posted that you'll be towed.

There is also Lowe's, Michaels, and Staples right down the road too. This shopping center includes more of the "higher end" type places, but also regular national retailers. It's honestly a good combination that can be attractive to all shoppers. Talbots, CVS, Old Navy, Ulta, and Bed Bath & Beyond just to name a few. Many restaurants surround the complex including Wahlburger's, AlmaNove, Panera, Menchie's (my personal favorite), BeerWorks and more. Two grocery stores, Trader Joe's and The Fresh Market are also both inside the complex. A movie theatre, Patriot Cinema 6 is also inside the complex. Not the most options around; however, a good assortment of places to go. Overall, I'd definitely come back here, it would just be better if all the places to shop in Hingham were closer together for convenience (Derby Street and here); however, I guess I shouldn't complain since that could cause traffic nightmares. Fine plaza in Braintree. Some decisions the plaza have made…read moreI don't agree with, like the weird, weird, entrance, and having only one exit that is impossible to avoid a huge traffic backup on ANY day, but overall it's getting better. First, this plaza used to have a Borders Books, which I really liked, and wished stayed, but that company went out of business, which wasn't the choice of Atlantic Retail, who owns the "Marketplace @ Braintree". Guitar Center isn't really my thing, but I guess it was an ok place to put in the former Borders. Next door to Guitar Center, they have recently added a Five Below (maybe 2-3 years ago). Five Below is probably my favorite store in the plaza, technology, candy, gift supplies, arts & crafts, sports equipment, games, and other great stuff, for all under $5. Next, in the actual plaza there is a Petsmart, Sports Authority, Kmart- which is closing in January, to become a Nordstrom Rack & Saks 5th Ave (good move by Atlantic Retail, that dirty old Kmart needed a lift), ULTA Beauty, Bed Bath & Beyond, Babies R Us, Staples, GameStop, and Best Buy. All of these stores are all fine for the most part, just old, and not as clean or large as other locations in the area (such as BB&B, Best Buy, Petsmart). But overall, the Braintree Marketplace has a lot of good stores and has made this plaza a destination to go to in Braintree. I'm looking forward to Saks 5th Ave & Nordstrom Rack to open (as well as a restaurant). Located off Route 3 (Take Exit 17 for Union Street) on Grossman Drive. 4 stars.
