I have been working with Up and Running for many years... and I was of my own volition- had a website that was less than it could be... it was hobbled together and was - what I kindly called a "frankenstein monster"... it was always breaking and when it did it was costly- it was unfriendly and at best a huge challenge. Enter Up and Running- for several years they helped me mend or at least patch my persistent nightmare website... They did all this with Professionalism, Kindness and Compassion- that is something that is rare these days... to find a Good Company that gives Great Service and does so with Kindness and Expertise! Recently- because my "old monster" was no longer going to be supported... I asked their team- specifically my U&R Associate Bing- what he would recommend if I were to upgrade- and fully appreciated the difficulties and challenges... Bing took some time- reviewed my case- and came back with an Incredible Suggestion- he saw my needs - he appreciate my challenges and knew how to guide me in finding a resolution that would work for me... THEN- he proceeded to guide me through the process- prepare and set me up for Success... during the migration- to the NEW Website! I've done lots of updates and launches in my life- and I've been into technology since it began it's existence decades ago- I've never had a good launch or migration... UNTIL THIS Experience... it was Smooth, Comforting (that a huge word to use here) and Professional... It was INCREDIBLE... and Bing Led the charge along with his associates at Up and Running... My Website is "UP AND RUNNING" and it's Epic- it's amazing- and more than I could have ever dreamed... I do not use these words loosely... I've seen it all... However - this time was different- It was Incredible... I'm Extremely Thankful and Grateful for the Professionalism, Expertise, and KINDNESS and UNDERSTANDING that are "Just part of everyday service" - (INCREDIBLE Service) at Up and Running... After working with UAR for over 5 years on two software platform (one build, one maintenance) and spending in excess of $2.5 million for their services, we had an incident whereby a UAR programmer working on a software platform negligently exposed the confidential data of hundreds of publicly and privately held businesses. We received confirmation of the mistake directly from the programmer. After confronting the CEO, Ian, with a reasonable settlement offer that would have capped UAR's liability in exchange for modest financial concessions, the CEO abruptly suspended services and refused to allow programmers to do work necessary to ensure the two software platforms continued functioning properly, thus inflicting further damage to our business. I would not recommend doing business with UAR based on our experiences. RESPONSE TO UAR FALSE AND MISLEADING CLAIMS: First, the security issue resulting in the leak was completely and absolutely unrelated to the "other" security issues. There is zero connection between the programming/programmer incident and earlier, well known security concerns (all of which pertained to security enhancements). Second, our firms had a long standing Net 90 agreement on payment due date. For over 5 years our firm was timely with all payments. Rendering payment on the April invoice due July was delayed for two reasons, a) to allow time to evaluate and decide on an appropriate course of action in light of UAR's alleged negligence and b) absence of our owners, due to a two week vacation between July 10-22. Third, payment was made on the Net 90 overdue amount, yet UAR refused to lift its work suspension. These are facts. At the end of the day, if a long time business partner, one whose services are essential to the smooth operation of complex software systems, is willing to cut off service because the company feels threatened and exposed due to its own errors, rather than negotiate in good faith, then that is not a company I would consider doing business with in the future. read more

I was introduced to Up and Running (UAR) by a friend who'd worked with them and recommended them. That was a bit over three years ago. I've been working with UAR for almost three years now! We use UAR for almost all of our technical dev needs. From websites (CSS and JS) to hard-core development (MVC app dev/ w/ AWS back-end), Peter and his team cover the entire gamut. Peter and his team have developed two products for us, and both of them have been excellently developed. They scale very well and are built on solid tech that can take a heavy pounding of users and keep working without breaking a sweat. In addition to being a great guy, Peter is a technical all-star (the same goes for everyone on his team I've worked with). He can understand a problem and think of multiple possible solutions. Peter also keeps customer needs, UX and business problems in mind and is often thinking two or three steps down the road to anticipate what might happen. Peter is often hands-on too, helping resolve urgent issues if necessary. UAR's approach to software development is one I love: incremental development. Rather than building the final product based on a spec, UAR takes baby-steps: First a high-level concept (or an MVP-Minimum Viable Product), and then incremental additions. This approach not only lets us see our software organically grow, but it allows us to make a course correction if we have to, without having spent hours on development. I often recommend UAR to others as well. They've knocked the ball out of the park for me so many times I'm compelled to recommend them when asked for a recommendation. read more

One of my colleagues had a good experience working with Up and Running, so he highly recommended this company. I worked with Pete and he took the time to learn about what I wanted out of my website, then explained everything he could do so it was easy for me to make the best decisions. He was very patient and made excellent suggestions. After speaking with Pete, he made us realized its not just about getting a website built, but how use that website as a strategic tool to get more clients. Which now makes perfect sense because there would have been no point of building website if no one is going to go there anyways. Up and Running is great at building websites to meet business goals. Our company approached up and running to build a complex web application for me. Peter Hanson and his team did a fabulous job in architecting the application and once we approved it, they built the entire application in a reasonable time and within budget. Our company's IT team interfaced with one of their project managers (Andrew McKellar) a regular basis for updates etc. Our company has a very stringent acceptance process and once the code was ready, Andrew and Pete also helped deploy it for us and supported us during the critical go-live. Our CTO has been quite impressed with them and has now approved additional work for them which involves enhancing the existing application but also for some new work. Our project involved a complex Magento set up. The new project will be in PHP/MySQL. We are also talking with them about additional Magento work. Thanks a lot Pete and Andrew. read more
