My family has tried various online "fresh food" companies, pre-made meal, you name it and they were just ok... usually the food did not last and was mediocre at best. We love our local famers market but even with our good intentions, we rarely made it on time. When my hubs stumbled upon FTF I was skeptical but really liked the idea of delivery, subscriptions and ala cart options and loved supporting our local farmers and businesses so we gave it a try. Here we are two yrs later and we still LOVE it! The fruits and veggies are so fresh that they typically arrive still covered in soil... this is actually our families favorite part! After about 6 months of receiving the subscriptions, we started ordering ala cart items and for the last year or so we've been getting about 75% of our weekly food from FTF. The meats, bakery, dairy and pantry items are all great! FTF is also not like a CSA where you tend to get the same items week after week. They have variety and this makes it fun for the whole family. We've received items that either we would never have chosen or had never eaten and we love it. If you are a meal planner than FTF is a wonderful option bc you get an email of the items that will come the following week and you have plenty of time to plan accordingly. The recipes and storage tips they provide are a great touch too. If you are traveling then it's super easy to suspend the service for as long as needed. Now, are they perfect, no however they do a darn good job fixing mistakes and are quick to respond to any questions or concerns. Sometimes there are missing or unavailable items and we will either receive a credit for or will get a little extra of another item. Personally, we would rather get that credit or extra item then a subpar product that would end up in the trash. There is a lot of talk in the reviews about the surprise email halting delivery to re-vamp and let me tell you, we were SAD... so sad but they worked hard to get back online and we were super excited to receive an email a week later announcing they were back up and running. Dealing with the logistics of fresh foods and delivery to the (very large) Balt-Wash area can not be easy, fresh food is very temperamental. The best part of it all... our 5yo son gets super excited to see the "red bags" on our front porch every week and he's learning about fresh foods and how important it is to support our local farmers. Then, the next 10 weekends are just to hard to get out of bed and down there in time?? Yes? Well then just have From the Farmer deliver those groceries to your door? You heard me....YOUR DOOR!! You just wake up on a Friday morning and there is this cool basket stuffed with produce picked at a local farm....maybe even some cheese in there made locally! Small batch jam is your thing.....I GOT THAT IN MY BASKET TOOOOO, along with fresh baked bread, one week I got pasta sauce!!!!!! If all my capital letters and exclamation marks weren't enough to convince you to give this product a try, let's just say that I've heard horror stories of other "organic" or local-based CSA deliveries. I don't have time or money for shriveled and half rotten fruits and veggies! I also want to help support my local economy and keep my carbon foot-print as low as possible (heaven knows I waste enough glass products on my mimosa weekend brunches....and hence can't make it to the Farmers Market.....do you see the cyclic scenario here?)! Professional and reliable, great products, helpful website and Facebook page! This product is legit! Give local a try. Small basket options for people who don't need to much run about $45 a week, and a larger basket to feed the whole family are about $70. Stay seasonal, eat local, be happy, be healthy! Here's the latest and greatest vendor list from 2023: Timber Pizza - Scrumptious wood-fired pizza with a pillowy soft crust. I can't count on how many fingers and toes I've had the pizza at different farmer's markets! While the lines can get long 12:30pm, you only have to wait for 15 minutes. Taco Dirty To Me: Crispy battered cauliflower tempura tacos, bursting with flavor! Bun'd' Up - Delicious fried tofu and mushroom in squishy soft bao buns topped with microgreens, scallions, and a nice creamy aioli sauce. Light and tasty! Urban+ade - Refreshing lemonade with less sugar than classic lemonade. The Sage & Tarragon is my favorite! Veg Heaven - Decadent sweet treats, the dark chocolate cookies and brownies are the best! While the cakes are moist, they aren't as tasty. Taco Loco - Giant burritos are amazing! There's a swarm of people waiting in line, so be prepared to wait 10-15 min before ordering and then another 5 min for your order! The mango and watermelon juice are refreshing. Hipp Sippin' - Cold-pressed juices and acai bowls made to order. Ravenhook Bakery - Great selection of freshly baked loaves of bread and baked goods. DMV Empanadas - They sell out fast! We spun a wheel to win prizes. I won a bike lock. We sampled produce from a vendor. Someone else had yummy salsa. The shopping area is about one block. People were strolling with their dogs and kids. There aren't any crowds. I would guess that more vendors are added during the summer. Bring your own shopping bags.

Normally, we would have chatted with each vendor to learn about their produce or recipes. I would have greeted dogs and lingered around the canopies while looking over products. Since Covid has impacted our lives, the farmer's market experience was different. We wore masks and arrived early. I didn't want to be in a large crowd. My "socializing" these past few months has been with cashiers and chatting with the neighbor through the window. The staff and Mt. Vernon employees did a great job of roping off the area and placing signage explaining the rules. Duct tape was used to mark off six feet distance in the lines. There was only a handful of vendors. The produce looked great. It was priced slightly higher than the grocery store. The herbs were hubby's top choice. The vegetables were beautiful. The home made apple butter and apple sauce from Black Rock Orchard ($6 ea. or 2/$10) was worth the trip. The staff celebrated opening weekend by handing out facemasks. Most of the attendees were respectful of social distancing. Dogs were not allowed in the market area. It was a beautiful day. I was happy to enjoy the sunshine. I suggest making a reservation on Open Table and ordering online. The web site lists merchants and products for each location in the District. Orders must be completed by Friday. You need to wait in line to enter the market, but you can pick up your order and leave. Reservations aren't mandatory. It just makes your visit shorter. If you don't want to attend, some businesses will waive a delivery fee with minimum orders. Many years ago, my uncle used to visit each office on Capitol Hill, selling produce to staff members. Local farms need our business. I hope this farmer's market continues to expand.

It seems as if the only explanation for this was the rainy day on which we visited and catching the market on a slow day- at least we hoped this was the reason for the market being so sparse and empty - not many visitors at all (practically empty really). I was able to get and/or try a few great items (pea shoots, other leafy greens, pizza, green hat products, amazing tomatoes, apples, cider, peppers, baked goods, etc.). Everyone was very pleasant and interacted with the customers. I'll miss it after next week :( but look forward to it next Spring.
