I enjoy coming to this market for my lunch breaks on Thursday, especially during the summer time! There are plenty of vendors to choose from with options for various taste palettes and dietary restrictions. The lines move efficiently and the staff is kind - looks like a cool job too!

    Roast pork sandwich - a must-have

I came here yesterday with a group of coworkers. They have a lot of different options for lunch, from personal pizzas to dumplings and everything in between. I got a roast pork sandwich from one of the vendors (Cucina al Volo, I think? They're listed on Freshfarm's website) and it was the best sandwich I've had in a long time. I don't think I've ever had pork that was this tender and flavorful. The line was also short and fast-moving, though that wasn't the case at every vendor. Unfortunately one of my coworkers had to wait 20+ minutes at the Puddin' truck, which I thought was a little ridiculous. I didn't buy any produce, but a friend of mine who goes to a lot of farmers markets said she was surprised by how reasonably-priced everything was for being in the middle of DC. She got lettuce, turnips, and a few other things. Based on how good my pork sandwich was, and the wide range of other lunch options all in one place, I definitely see myself

VERY cute little market in front of the white house. Its just one short block but they pack a lot of merchandise: baked goods, cooked crab, poultry, beef, apples, cheeses, crab cakes. And on and on. I bought a few loaves of bread (black walnut, stuffed carrot cake, banana streudel) from the funny man at Rockahock bakery (no preservatives!). Apparently the cheesecakes are to die for - the two women in line ahead of me bought all 4 and would not shut up about how they freeze them and treat themselves to one slice at a time. Apparnetly the stuff keeps well despite no preservatives or chemicals. i think the market is only once a week but it is well worth it.

Here's the latest and greatest vendor list from 2023: Timber Pizza - Scrumptious wood-fired pizza with a pillowy soft crust. I can't count on how many fingers and toes I've had the pizza at different farmer's markets! While the lines can get long 12:30pm, you only have to wait for 15 minutes. Taco Dirty To Me: Crispy battered cauliflower tempura tacos, bursting with flavor! Bun'd' Up - Delicious fried tofu and mushroom in squishy soft bao buns topped with microgreens, scallions, and a nice creamy aioli sauce. Light and tasty! Urban+ade - Refreshing lemonade with less sugar than classic lemonade. The Sage & Tarragon is my favorite! Veg Heaven - Decadent sweet treats, the dark chocolate cookies and brownies are the best! While the cakes are moist, they aren't as tasty. Taco Loco - Giant burritos are amazing! There's a swarm of people waiting in line, so be prepared to wait 10-15 min before ordering and then another 5 min for your order! The mango and watermelon juice are refreshing. Hipp Sippin' - Cold-pressed juices and acai bowls made to order. Ravenhook Bakery - Great selection of freshly baked loaves of bread and baked goods. DMV Empanadas - They sell out fast! While the empanadas has a nice crispy hard shell and with so many flavors to choose from, they are a bit bland and overloaded with bland cheese. The Spinach and Cheese or the Bacon and Cheese didn't quite hit the spot, hubby like the Chicken. Al Volo Cucina: While I wasn't a big fan of the greasy eggplant parm subs. I wish they brought back the fresh juices (the watermelon and mango juices) were amazing! Wonderful market with plenty of delicious and diverse options to choose from. Lines start to form between 12:30-1pm, come early!

Normally, we would have chatted with each vendor to learn about their produce or recipes. I would have greeted dogs and lingered around the canopies while looking over products. Since Covid has impacted our lives, the farmer's market experience was different. We wore masks and arrived early. I didn't want to be in a large crowd. My "socializing" these past few months has been with cashiers and chatting with the neighbor through the window. The staff and Mt. Vernon employees did a great job of roping off the area and placing signage explaining the rules. Duct tape was used to mark off six feet distance in the lines. There was only a handful of vendors. The produce looked great. It was priced slightly higher than the grocery store. The herbs were hubby's top choice. The vegetables were beautiful. The home made apple butter and apple sauce from Black Rock Orchard ($6 ea. or 2/$10) was worth the trip. The staff celebrated opening weekend by handing out facemasks. Most of the attendees were respectful of social distancing. Dogs were not allowed in the market area. It was a beautiful day. I was happy to enjoy the sunshine. I suggest making a reservation on Open Table and ordering online. The web site lists merchants and products for each location in the District. Orders must be completed by Friday. You need to wait in line to enter the market, but you can pick up your order and leave. Reservations aren't mandatory. It just makes your visit shorter. If you don't want to attend, some businesses will waive a delivery fee with minimum orders. Many years ago, my uncle used to visit each office on Capitol Hill, selling produce to staff members. Local farms need our business. I hope this farmer's market continues to expand.

It seems as if the only explanation for this was the rainy day on which we visited and catching the market on a slow day- at least we hoped this was the reason for the market being so sparse and empty - not many visitors at all (practically empty really). Safe to say, we will not be making another trek out here, at least not for this farmer's market specifically.

It felt like we were in a kindergarten class field trip. Every single minute of the trip was scripted and chaperoned. The "excursions" primarily took us to areas we could have easily gotten to by land had we planned the trip on our own (with maybe one exception). Every hike was actually a nature stroll and you were required to stay with a group including their guides the entire time. The "highlight" of the trip was supposed to be hiking to waterfalls...that turned out to be three hours on a tour bus to a hotel that marketed mediocre waterfalls. Even on the hotel grounds we were required to stay with a group and tour guides all day. The zip lining in the hotel property was incredible, but something we could have easily done without going through National Geographic. Every night there was a mandatory briefing in the lounge before dinner which interrupted the sunset views. We skipped the briefing one night to watch the sunset and see a huge pod of dolphins, the cruise director came out on the deck and made everyone come inside. Based on the advertisement, we were not expecting a luxury cruise and were ok with in order to experience a true expedition. Since that wasn't the case, we were disappointed by the lack of activities on the ship...no TV in the room, no pool, hot tub, etc., just a few board games. Again, this would have been fine if the adventures made up for it. I will say that the food was incredible and the hospitality crew was fantastic.
