October 1st 2025 I delivered my son at UPMC Carlisle women's health. Every single nurse and midwife was amazing. I had 100% natural birth and those ladies got me through it. They were absolutely respectful of my birth plan and things we did and did not want for our birth and our child. They helped me stick to my goals even when I started to doubt myself they were so considerate and kind. Totally different experience from my first child with a military hospital. I am extremely grateful for this hospital and UPMC in new Cumberland also as they were my primary up to delivery. I felt safe, cared for, and respected! I wish I remembered the midwife and nurses names but they were so wonderful! read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE. I have experienced Chronic Pancreatitis my whole life, caused by an auto immune disorder. I came in today when I had major back pain that radiated to my pancreas area. I was in severe pain crying. I had several tests done while remaining in the waiting room which was completely fine with me. It was a bit busy, and I was fine waiting for a room. They brought me back after about 3 hours. I was in agony at this point. I spoke with a doctor who seemed nice. He explained that everything on my scans looked fine. I kindly explained to him my situation, he assured me that he would re-check my results. The doctor came back after about 15 minutes. He had told me that my scans looked fine, and that my pancreas and gallbladder looked good. However, I had my gallbladder removed 7 years ago. I was alarmed, and informed the doctor. Afterwards he shuffled out of the room quickly. I was extremely upset, as I was still in pain. The doctor didn't explain any other test results, and just offered me an anti-acid medication. At this point I was frustrated, and it was incredibly obvious he didn't review my results, and prescribed a medication that I had never used to treat my pancreas before. I left that hospital without any medication, I decided to wait for a second opinion from my PCP, who will actually review my results. Stay away from this hospital if you have any choice. read more

My first time visit to the ER and my LAST! Waited over two and a half hours to see a doctor, never did, and I was so disgusted with the unprofessionalism of an ER intake nurse who talked to me like I was one of her kids in a sarcastic manner, I walked out. You'll drop dead before you see a doctor. I was totally SHOCKED! I worked at UPMC in Pittsburgh back in the 80's, and if anyone would have told me that professionalism has plummeted significantly, I would have called them a liar, but I experienced it personally. A roomful of sick people in the ER and staff are busy engaging in unnecessary conversations with security guards, while people are crying in pain and discomfort. They will NOT get any of my business. I'll go to Hershey Medical Center where I will be treated with dignity, respect and given the continuity of care that I deserve as a human being. read more

THE WORST excuse of an ER. Extremely rude front desk workers, especially Terry. Had to wait 9 hours for my 14 month old to be taken back to a room to be told that "we don't have pediatric equipment here" and had to be transported to Harrisburg. They don't even deserve 1 star but I had to select something. read more

Since my original review of CRMC, the hospital has been purchased by Pinnacle, and then UPMC, and so it is now called UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle. My wife and I also had a second baby at The Women's Center since then, and while the traveling OB was really distant and impersonal (referred to my wife by the wrong name on multiple occasions, didn't remember the gender of our baby less than 24 hours of delivery, other than the actual delivery was only with us for maybe 5 total minutes), the nursing staff and the pediatrician (who was also a traveling doctor) were great. Every glucose test was made easier by compassionate staff who helped my wife, who has a serious fear of needles, survive each experience. Tammy, the lactation consultant, is an absolute gem of a professional and human being. She's followed up with my wife on a regular basis and her feedback and guidance is always practical and helpful. She also provides support groups for moms that have been highly recommended by everyone we know. Additionally, just this weekend, I had a hernia repair here by Dr Sneider (from Carlisle Surgical Institute, also with UPMC Pinnacle), and my pre-op team was amazing. When talking about an antibiotic I would need during the procedure, the anesthesiologist helped prevent a possible allergy issue, thanks in part to his background as a former pharmacist. Everyone seemed to have this EXTRA expert level in all they did with me and I also found every single professional that worked with me to be incredibly pleasant and supportive. Carlisle is fortunate to have this place! read more

If I could give a ZERO, I would. My Mother lost her life due to the ineptness of the staff of this hospital. I honestly can't fathom how a 'retired military' town population would put up with a central hospital as terrible as this. My Mother went by ambulance to the ER around 4pm, was released at 7:30pm TO A CAB- no one on staff called the 3 emergency numbers our family insured were on record, nor the retirement community she lived in. She was dead later that night. It sickens me to think that this is the level of care this town tolerates. Immoral actually. read more

The nursing staff at this hospital LIES. They are DECEPTIVE. My Mother-in-Law was in for a fall, and they were sending her out to a therapy place. We had arranged for me to drop off clothing for her to take to the therapy place. When I got there, they refused to take it. They flat out refused. I had to drive to the rehab place myself to drop off her clothes. That would have been fine if that had been the arrangement to begin with, but they LIED saying that the clothes could go along with her. Do not trust these people. read more

Absolutely disastrous registration staff. Wrong information. When asked about leaving they said they only way to receive your test results was to wait, and if you left you would need to take the test again because they could not share the test results. Bold lies. When you ask to speak to someone they say they have already brought out the charge nurse to speak with you and you declined to speak to them. They operate on the fringe of patient rights if not entirely unethically. When you are able to speak to a person "from the back" they are kind and supportive and they can actually get the registration staff to conduct themselves in accordance with the patient of rights but that is no solution. Managment needs to stop apologizing in this forum and implement meaningful change. Anyone thinking this local option is worthwhile should stop and turnaround and drive to Harrisburg or Hershey. There is no reason to ever think this place could possibly be better than a drive to someplace else. An absolute disgrace to the UPMC brand and the community. Left after four hours and literally the only thing to show for it was a bill and a headache. read more

My fiancé comes into the ED saying symptoms consistent with a possible stroke or TIA. Was put through triage and sent back to waiting room. We were told that he would be getting ekg and some bloodwork, also spoke to a provider in the back. Since then have been sitting back in the waiting room without any information. To make matters worse a gentleman came in and said the same symptoms and was taking back immediately. I know that hospitals are short staffed and everything and I get that personally, but not getting any blood work or a basic ekg is a disappointment to say the least. It's sad there isn't any real system for patients and staff. read more

Well I am a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania and never went to the Carlisle Hospital myself. I've heard horror stories for years from friends about the bad care received when going there so I've avoided it. My Mother is in Manor Care nursing home and needed to go to the hospital and they sent her there. I wasn't real happy but had no choices on where she was sent. I visited her this evening, my first time there ever. Her dinner was delivered a lot later than her room mates and the only reason she got it then was because I went and asked if they were feeding her. There was a full staff on, nurses all over the place, the only thing was the nurses didn't seem to be worrying about any of the patients. My Mother had to use the restroom and pushed her button, within a half hour nobody showed. I went in search of help once again. The staff that was on duty were either on their computers or talking to each other in the hallways, NOBODY noticed my Mother pushing the button for help. I had to interrupt a nurses computer time to get her to help my Mother. I was not a happy camper at all and pretty much made a scene in the hallway. I think with that much staff on and nobody making any effort to help or even to see what my Mother needed that is pretty POOR service on their part. The only girl that came to our rescue was an aid, NOT a Nurse or anybody else it was an aid named Amanda that finally helped and cheerfully helped. Of course she herself could not get any of the nurses to help her either, they all acted like they were too busy to help her out. I said loudly that she should be getting their pay since she seemed to be the only one on the third floor working! As far as I myself am concerned I would never even take an animal to this hospital for help. I would never recommend a place that is apparently more interested in the all mighty dollar than helping people. I am very angry my Mother was treated that way and I can't imagine taking a loved one their for care - for "care" is what you will not receive. read more

My pregnant daughter waited in that waiting room at Carlisle hospital for hours and hours. She went in with covid and was afraid she had pneumonia. All Carlisle hospital did was give her fluids and then sent her home. 2 Days later she went to the Gettysburg hospital and they found out she had double pneumonia in addition to covid. They flew her immediately to Johns Hopkins where she is now on a ventilator. If Carlisle hospital had done their job correctly, she might not have had to be flown to Johns Hopkins or she would be getting better by now. Do better Carlisle hospital! read more

We sat in that waiting room for 3 hours with a very sick dehydrated man. They refused to give him ice chips and were unapologetic and apathetic to his wait. I witnessed 3 other people in the waiting room who had also waited for hours for a room give up and leave to go elsewhere. We ended up leaving to go to Wellspan in Carlisle. I walked into the ER thinking I was going to wait for hours. It was Friday Sept 13. I was triaged quickly and taken back immediately. Dr Ortiz came in my room promptly and started my care immediately. My ER nurse was wonderful, I think his name was Eric. I was transferred upstairs to room 318. Those nurses were absolutely wonderful...The 12 hour weekend Nurses I absolutely loved. The team work was wonderful. The RN's answered call bells just like the rest of the staff. The doctors that were on my case/care were on point with everything. What I thought was the flu turned into something more dangerous. Dr Alex (greek last name) called me several times to check up on me after discharge. He has to be the most caring doctor that I have met in a very long time. Thank you to this amazing staff for putting me back on my feet just in time for my daughters wedding. God Bless all of you!!!! read more

My 90 year old grandmother was taken by ambulance from her nursing home to the hospital. She was having severe hallucinations due to her Parkinson's and the social isolation from COVID. She was unable to have any rational thought. The hospital seemed okay at getting tests accomplished, however, they managed to lose her $600 glasses. Apparently, because a Consent to Treat form was signed, they believe it is okay not to take any responsibility for losing her glasses. I think it is so ridiculous that a 90 year old who is by herself and completely delusional is treated with such disrespect. read more

I walked into the ER Tuesday morning (12/27) around 2:30. I was seen promptly by a nurse and I was also impressed with the short time it took to see the doctor. After a CT scan the thought that they were going to need to operate. The surgeon came to see me and was surprised by the way I look. He expected me to be much sicker looking and in a ton of pain. I was sitting calmly, with little pain. The had already scheduled the OR room but he put the breaks on everything and went to read the Scan again and consult with other doctors. He came back and listened to our concerns and wants, and he shared his. He decided to hold off on surgery and try some other treatments. I almost fainted. I have had Crohn's for 17 years and I have never encountered a surgeon so willing to discuss other options. I was impressed and very pleased. Just one day later and I am doing great. Doctor is planning on me leaving tomorrow. Had I had a different doctor or gone to a different hospital I wonder if I won't have ended up with a long recovery. Thanks CRMC! read more

Went into the hospital with issues with coughing up blood. Had Labs drawn, vitals done, normal poke and IV etc., was told they were going to 'run more test'. Waited a 2-3 hours and the doctor comes into the room giving me a script for bronchitis because that's what my x-ray results showed was wrong with me. I simply sad ok, jumped up and got dressed quickly not giving my sister-in-law a moment to speak out what we both know didn't happen ... I never got a flipping X-RAY, I mean... C'mon, seriously? I wasn't about to go and take any medication based on a test that was never actually done. Went to Harrisburg the next day and I had massive gallstones that were leading to some serious issues. read more

My father was scheduled for a simple outpatient surgery and we even joked about how bad the reputation of Carlisle Hospital is beforehand. I told him that he would probably be fine since it was a simple procedure, but if it was anything more serious, he should go elsewhere. The surgery was fine, but my father fell after he was discharged as they were helping him get up out of bed for the first time. He had cuts on his knee and hand, and a fairly large bruise on his back. Of course the hospital was not concerned about my father because he had just been discharged. My father could not move his left leg independently and he said he could not feel it and that it was like dead weight. My father is not the type to complain. I have seen him 'soldier on' through several injuries over my lifetime so for him to be concerned (and trembling a bit because he was nervous) was very hard to watch and we knew that something was not right. Immediately the staff went into 'we may have a lawsuit - we have to protect ourselves' mode. No one had mentioned any legal processes at all, and we were not thinking this at all. We were all concerned about the health and well being of our loved one who got injured in their hospital after outpatient surgery. We wanted him to be safe when leaving the hospital. A nurse reported that she saw my father bringing his right leg up under his left leg before surgery. He had actually crossed his legs in bed which is something that he always does. There were several times that the nurse came back to ask about something in his history. I know I am not a medical doctor, but I do not see how my father hitting his head 12 years earlier on a jungle gym while playing with his preschool grandson could be the probably cause of all this When they got him up to walk later, it was obvious that he could not bear weight on the leg and he said that it was still numb. When we remarked that this is not normal for him, they seemed surprised. If you would have seen him walk, it was obvious that he was not walking appropriately, and he needed two nurses to help him walk. He came into the hospital walking independently. It did get better, and several hours later, he was able to walk much better. Eventually the nurses came back and said that he had been administered a numbing agent before surgery and that they believed it has seeped into his leg. That made total sense and explained why he was having the problems he was having. My advice: Send your loved ones to a better, more respected hospital for any procedures, no matter how small. read more

I went here to cause I felt like I was having trouble breathing. They had me in the waiting room for almost four hours. Of course soon as I was about to just go somewhere else they said they were about to open up a room. So I end up staying, then they take forever to come back never checking on me. Finally the dr comes to do some test. I go to do the ct scan. They end up messing up with the contrast so I got charged for the ct scan but never got any results. Then end up just going off my blood work and then just releasing me without any real treatment read more

This is the worst hospital ever! I took my son to the ER because he was having chest pains. In the lobby and check in area, there are two signs that specifically say to be sure to let the staff know immediately if you are experiencing chest pains or heart related symptoms. I clearly let them know. Yet, they made us wait in the lobby for 45 minutes. No triage, no anything. We sat and waited. Thanks to God, my son is ok, but if he was suffering with any cardiac issues, we would have been in big trouble. In the end, we left their ER to seek help elsewhere. Today, they called me to obtain my insurance information for billing purposes. What am I being charged for? I literally sat in the lobby for 45 minutes for absolutely nothing! If you are in dire need, I wouldn't suggest going to that hospital, which is a sad situation for us Carlisle locals. read more

I'm a little late in sending this. My mom was admitted here at the beginning of December. They took really good care of her. Her ICU nurse, Mike was superb. He was patient, knowledgeable and showed the best bedside manner. Thank you Mike, in ICU and to the rest of the staff for taking such good care of my mom. She's coming along better. read more

Don't ever go to Carlisle hospital, there is one Dr. Matthew McClellan who will laugh at you, make a joke out of you when other patients are listening in to hear the conversation, he makes remarks if I have to treat you I'm going to make it hurt like hell. I said go ahead I'm here for my asthma, then he got pissed because he worked all day and I was seen a few days before him because my kerosene furnace broke down and there was smoke and soot from the kerosene fumes in the house. So he got pissed because I told him my lungs were still real tight and I couldn't get any air moving like it should, so he goes off the deep end and tries to hurt me like hell, but I thought it was funny I live with complex regional pain syndrome in my left foot, so his little needles did nothing to me. So I'm WARNING ANYONE THAT GOES THERE IF YOU SEE THE NAME DR. MATTHEW McClellan, don't let him get near you, he doesn't care about you he only wants to make fun of you! I received my bill for outpatient surgery and it was exorbitant. Also, there was no explanation of charges, just an amount. I called the number on the bill and was told this is the way they always bill. After getting my insurance company on the line I was told they would send me an explanation of charges. I received it and it had medical codes and abbreviations which I can't understand. I do not want to pay a bill when I don't know what I am being charged for. read more

Wow! My wife and I could not be any more grateful for the service we received. From Karen the midwife to the complete nursing staff, this was the greatest experience having a child. This is one of the worst hospitals known to PA residents. The nurses here are completely incompetent, doctor's just dont care. My friends had a baby here, worst place to deliver. All they cared about was the bill and since they arent married, treated them like they were irresponsible by default. The only part of the staff that seems to do their job is the kitchen. People have died in this place when they were MORE than able to be helped if they had gotten the proper medical attention, but because the staff here is so negligent, lives have been lost and that is just sickening. This hospital will more than likely get shut down in a few years unless they completely overhaul the faculty. If you ever have an accident and need to go to a hospital, DO NOT come here and if you go in an ambulance, tell them you refuse to come here. Make them take you somewhere else. If you value your life and dont want to die in a hospital bed, go somewhere safe. This place is the absolute worst and all Carlisle residents know it read more

If I could give this hospital zero stars I would. I was in labor for more than 24 hours before I even entered a hospital. This was not a planned delivery to say the least. When I did go to the hospital the staff there treated me horribly. I was given one pain reliever the entire time I was in labor all the way up until they decided to do an emergency cesarean. (I can't in at 2am and had my daughter at 3:41pm) My contractions were 2 minutes apart and I was being told to suck it up and deal with it because it "isn't that bad." The doctor who performed my cesarean could be heard from the O.R. prep talking negativity about me and my husband who could hear her... wanted to call her out. He wanted to shut her up and tell her not to talk about me, but more than that he wanted my agony to end so he didn't say anything to her. Imagine being in labor and contracting every 2 minutes with no epidural and nothing to numb the pain and having each If I could give this hospital zero stars I would.
