It is a one-stop shop of medical care making it easy and convenient for patients. Huge selection of doctors and specialists as well as satellite facilities. There is always room for improvement though, and more attention must be paid to keeping patients safe. My personal experience following routine hernia surgery was unacceptable. Luckily, I wasn't hurt or killed, but giving someone fentanyl when they are allergic to opioids is not pleasant for the patient. Yes, they did that to me post-op and it made the routine surgery immediate recovery miserable. Once I got over the nausea and vomiting, I was fine. That was 2 hours of unnecessary suffering for me and it cost this place a star. Should be more... Lesson learned for me. Always advocate for yourself and make sure you tell all medical staff about your allergies to medications. Good facility otherwise and I've experienced and witnessed firsthand quality care in this hospital.

I arrived by ambulance, got a quick vitals check -- and then sent to the waiting room with high blood pressure. 7 hours later my blood pressure is still high and I am 60, got tired of siting as I have bad knees/arthritis and couldnt sit anymore. I called Penn Health Hampden and they told me they could take me right away. It was so sad. When the ambulance brought me to UPMC West Shore no one smiled-- when I saw how packed the ER wait room was I could understand why! There were people waiting 10 and more hours for assistance! MY GOD. That is NOT ok. Too many people falling through the health care cracks and not enough staffing to assist! Welcome to the New America? Thankfully I was stabilized by Penn Health Hampden. Sugar was 350. blood pressure brought down, and breating issues treated. I was okay, there were alot people waited ,some had to leave due no doctor. I waited for ten hours from Sunday 8:25 pm to 6 am. No doctor excepted got called for 2nd blookwork to doublecheck. Oh my god, do not go to this place again! Lucky I was able to see my regular doctor same day and got the treatment. What kind healthcare is this? The staff at Hershey medical system were blessed with the skills to save my mom. My mother had a major stroke on Saturday. She had a complete blockage in the area controlling speech and movement on her right side. She arrived at Hershey able to understand but unable to communicate. She couldn't lift her arms. She literally was scared to death. Likewise, my dad, who witnessed everything, was panicking. When we got the call, we threw some stuff in a suitcase and drove all night covering over 800 miles to get there as soon as we could. When we arrived, we went directly to the hospital. Of course I had updates from my family, but I still wasn't sure what I would see when I walked into her room in the NICU. The moment I stepped over that threshold, I knew I still had my mom. Not mom with a new normal, but MY mom. How did I know? She was complaining about something. Yep, that's my mom, bless her heart. (And I mean that in a true southern way!) I've already established my belief in divine intervention, but it was the excellent staff at Hershey that actually performed the miracle. The moment mom crossed the ER threshold, she was hit by a whirlwind of activity. Time is critical for a stroke patient. Within the first 1/2 hour, they confirmed the stroke and had a specialist paged. Less than two hours from getting wheeled in into the ER by the EMTs, she was in recovery from surgery. The surgery was delicate (as are all brain surgeries, of course). This particular surgery takes advanced skills - her neurologist said that even they revere these surgeons. The doctor said that they got the entire clot but didn't know her prognosis. He did say that recovery was going to be slow. The wonderful care didn't stop in the ER and OR. The nurses and support staff were second to none. Not only was mom well cared for, we were also recipients of the helpfulness and kindness of the staff. We were kept abreast of every test and procedure. They made sure that the doctor came by while we were there - keeping us tightly in the loop. We had pertinent phone numbers so we could always speak with her nurse. They helped us set up her portal (clear cookies before enrolling). Mom was a nurse so she has exceptionally high standards for nursing care. Even she was impressed. There were a couple of hiccups. The food was awful. I wouldn't have eaten it either. They did not do a very good job at helping her with hygiene. She said she had a bed bath but whatever they did, sure didn't do what was intended. In 5 days, she had only received 1 bath. Please be aware that the medical center is HUGE and you will most likely have quite a trek to the room. Seriously, after the first day, I traded my cute sandals for my tennis shoes. There are a couple of places inside to eat but we didn't try them. A very busy Starbucks is in the lobby. Us fellow Penn Staters feel especially at home with the replica of our beloved Nittany Lion sculpture in the rotunda. A life size replica of our mascot sits on an outside bench just begging for a photo shoot. If I ever need urgent medical care while in town visiting, there will be absolutely no question on where I'll go. Hershey Medical Center. It's undoubtedly one of the best. And, to the staff - thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving my mom. Bless you all.

My second visit to Patient First was even more excellent than my first visit nine months ago…read more This time I was able to see Dr. Sean Perrine, who is intelligent, personable, kind, patient and caring. Dr. Perrine suggested that I have the impacted earwax removed from both ears. Paige, a medical specialist in earwax removal, did a superb job to accomplish this complicated and time-consuming task. Dr. Perrine also prescribed an antibiotic for me that he called in to my pharmacy on record. The prescription was ready for pick up when I arrived. The wait time was less than five minutes because I was there when they opened at 8 AM on a Tuesday. I was unable to get an appointment with my family doctor that week. Pansinusitis should not be left untreated for too long, so I did the right thing by going to Patient First for superior medical care from a friendly, caring and knowledgeable staff. I would give Patient First a 23+ out of 10 ... fabulous ... fantastic and a life saver when a family doctor cannot provide immediate care. Patient First on Jonestown Road in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is THE BEST in 2025!

I was very please with how the staff treated us, from greeting us to helping us get around the massive building I felt the care and compassion from all the staff members we connected with. I was very emotional at my visit but was met with support and understanding. I know that not every staff member understood why we there but their smiles and kindness went a long way. I was grateful for the grace I felt today.
