Emergency room does not give thorough enough information upon discharge. Ever since upmc has taken over it has become impersonal and like a factory. Had a pelvic break and was led to believe it was a minor fracture when a healthcare provider who is a personal friend read the ct results told me there were three fractures! Also prescription was called in incorrectly and when i called the emergency room they said there was nothing they could do about it since that Dr was not there!!! When upmc called me to schedule a follow up with an orthopedic dr they scheduled me with a dr who specializes in sports injuries. I am 70 years old and have 2 hip replacements. Will never go back there again! read more

It was really just the professionalism that we didn't like. I mean this is my girlfriends first birth, and they brought 3 training nurses in, had like 3 different people going in and out, and then the male nurses tried to come in while she was propped up and they could basically see her entire private parts, both chest and pelvis area. Now we hopefully don't think they did since 1 nurse blocked them from entering, HOWEVER, they did not ask if it was okay for the 3 training nurses to watch, as we wanted it to be a private moment since this is our first born child, but we now shared the experience with 3 other people that we didn't even know. And the final thing that actually got me to write this review, was in the middle of her 5 breast feeding, they just brought a training MALE nurse in, and mind you, my girlfriend and I have not been with any other significant others, so for her to be looked at in her private areas, by both men and women who WERENT there to help HER, was pretty unprofessional, disrespectful, and just downright awful. It made her very uncomfortable which is more import to me than how I even feel. Because I too am upset about this, i feel as if they have taken both the private moment and the her private areas from me, and just basically put her on display, again, with no confirmation. It genuinely has made us both upset and has caused a lot of emotional distress for my girlfriend and lesser but still, for me as well. read more

A review I wish I couldn't make but... kids. We're on vacation and a little one woke up screaming and crying with an ear infection in the middle of the night. We went to UPMC Lititz emergency room. We arrived around 2:30 am and there was no wait. No one in the waiting room and everyone was very efficient getting us back to the dr quickly, meds for my little and back home. Couldn't be happier with our visit. Wish we didn't have to make it, but happy they were there and speedy! read more

Don't go to their ER if you're in any type of pain. Clearly they don't know how to properly triage patients: I had High blood pressure with diastolic over 105 and accompanying dizziness with a potential for a stroke+ 8/10 back pain from back spasms. Could hardly even sit upright in the waiting room chair without passing out...(this was AFTER already" triaged" & sent back to waiting room.) Meanwhile, they called 4 different people, who arrived after me, into the ER treatment area for "cold & flu symptoms" these people were laughing and chatting on their cell phones while they waited. Bottom line: possible "Covid" symptoms/diagnosis are more of a money maker for them, clearly. Had to leave & seek treatment elsewhere. read more

First time here. Brought my mom for an outpatient test and everyone has been very helpful and professional. This hospital is more of a drive for us but they could fit her in their schedule quicker. This hospital is also smaller than Harrisburg Hospital, making it easier to navigate with her walker. Will definitely choose this location over others if given the choice again. The last few months of my dad's life were plagued by health problems and he resided in a nursing facility. After being diagnosed with covid on Christmas Day 2021 we thought he was in the clear. Little did we know that weeks later, in the middle of Jan 2022 did we learn that covid made a minor heart condition considerably worse. I was told by the nursing staff at his home that he needed to go to the ER, and I instructed them that he be taken to UPMC after his chaotic and frustrating stay at LGH a few months earlier. Other than a day surgery in 2013 I had no prior experience with UPMC, I just figured the ER would be less crowded and not as chaotic due to it's suburban, out of the way location. That proved to be just the case and not only was he immediately accessed and seen, but his stay was much more organized and communicating with the staff was not problematic. His first day or two there he was confined to a room in the ER, simply because they didn't have enough staff or beds (due to the rise in covid cases) on the floors that were staffed to move him to a regular room. However, he didn't mind and was seen by several doctors, including a heart specialist within 3 hours of his arrival. Had that been LGH we would still be sitting in the waiting room! The doctors were thorough in their examination and explanation of his now terminal condition. One doctor, a relatively new doctor probably in her early 30's tried to be a tactful as possible when telling us that this was a terminal condition, although at times when she spoke to him she was condescending and spoke to him like a child. I didn't appreciate that much, but thankfully his care was quickly turned over to someone else. Unlike LGH, they immediately asked us and him about a living will and if he stood by his DNR order. It was an uncomfortable but necessary conversation and the doctor tried to comfort us both the best he could. When dad was finally sent to a hospital floor for the remainder of his stay he raved about the size of the room, the staff, and the food. His room had a large wall of windows that overlooked a grassy landscaped area. He had the perfect view for watching the airplanes take off and land and was in awe. Because he was on a restricted diet the menu they provided him was packed with so much nutritional information he requested a copy to take back home. Every time I called the staff was professional, friendly, and easy to get ahold of. All the doctors I met with during his stay were also pleasant and explained his condition, and what to expect moving forward, in a way that was easy to understand. Because he was wheelchair bound, they arranged his transportation via handicap van back to the home. The day of his release there was a few hiccups with his condition, as now he was leaving on oxygen, they made all the arrangements with a local company. Not the best supplier but given that it was a last-minute decision at release they did the best they could under the circumstances. Somethings I didn't care for was the conflicting information I was given pertaining to who and when you could visit. My husband was told he could visit, only to be refused when he arrived. Also when I was trying to fill family members in on the depressing news there was no where private to go in the emergency room and we ended up in the day surgery waiting room, only to be gawked at and bothered repeatedly by staff although it was obvious we were in a time of distress. The positives were the immediate care, communication, ease of parking, cleanliness, food, and overall peaceful atmosphere. UPMC will be my hospital of choice moving forward. read more

I have had MRI, Cat Scan,Ultrasound, X-rays at UPMC over the years but never at Lititz Hospital. All of the tests were performed at or around Harrisburg area. NEVER did I have to wait up to 10 days for the results. Always within 3-4 hours information would be on my portal. Not sure what makes this Hospital so slow performing simple tasks. I would hate to find out 10 days later that I had a real medical issue. read more

I went to UPMC as part of a request from my family doctor as they could not do holter monitor tests. They were polite when setting everything up and had a student perform the work as they are a learning hospital. I do my period with the monitor on and went to drop off the monitor... you just drop it off at a front desk and no one knows if you hand in paperwork or what goes with it or what you do ...you also receive no receipt that you have turned it in. It's now over 1 month later and I still have yet to get a call or even a voicemail from UPMC to discuss results or anything. I did get a bill however when I went to go online it stated "We could not locate your accounts. Please try again." I tried multiple times and followed the instructions provided via the website to no avail. The paper bill did not state a due by date so when I called in I only got the automated system and my bill was different from my invoice. I paid it in full as to not get screwed over anymore from UPMC. It's also annoying that every time I go there my contact info is wrong even though I update it with them. I won't be utilizing UPMC for any further services. For context I'd rather utilize the VA hospital than UPMC. read more

Dr Christine Dang was unprofessional and belittling. She did not perform an assessment or provide plan of care information. When asked to order Ativan for my anxious father she stated "we do not order Ativan in the ER. Maybe they will if he is admitted". She lied. As an ER nurse myself I know personally ER's regularly use Ativan to treat many conditions. She delayed life saving treatments for hours and waited many hours to consult the specialist who needed to treat my father. She's an embarrassment to emergency medicine and has horrible bedside manner. read more

Well wonderful hospital, nice staff but their billing system needs improvement. I had surgery over a year ago, no bill was ever sent..I learned from my insurance that my bill exceeded $90,000 just for the hospital....also paid my deductible at the time of service only to have it held hostage since each entity (ie hospital, doctor and anesethia) are all separate billings and my insurance charges the deductible to the first $5,000 billed to them, convent for the hospital. Anesethia was out of network! A year later after receiving a refund of $1,200 (which I used to pay the it of network doctors) and another small bill for $50 I now get a bill for $2,200 (physician charge). Easy just to blame the doctors, but after calling for a bill and no one I mean no has a complete bill...ridiculous! read more

My 90 year old father just had pacemaker put in at UPMC Lititz. His medical care was excellent and the staff was so nice and helpful. From the registration person and volunteers, to the doctor and most of all the nurses, we were treated with respect, kindness, and professionalism. I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone. We have been to other hospitals in the area and this was easier to park and smaller, giving it a homey feel. We were even impressed that the president of the hospital walked into my Dad's room to check on the care he was receiving! And the food was good! The review is about the baby center and the billing. Most of the nurses seem new and are pretty clue less about babies. if you are having your first child i definitely DO NOT recommend this hospital as they will not make you feel comfortable. good thing only our second child was born here so we were pretty much ready. as to the billing dept. they are very rude and dont care to help you. We set up a payment plan with them and they were to mail a packet to us to fill out and have never received it. we have called every month since and we were told to just keep paying something until we get it so i have paid $50 every month same exact day for last 4 months but they decided to send it to a collection agency and they wont do anything about it. now my credit i have worked hard to keep very good is ruined. not even the business manager of the hospital will answer calls or call me back read more

I want to say this first... This review is pertaining to their billing department NOT the hospital itself. To sum it up... they must have training employees working their billing department as I have not received a SINGLE bill that has been correct thus far. I delivered in September and the first bill I received was for over 700,000 dollars YES I said OVER SEVEN HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS for a normal uncomplicated VBAC. Of course, I called and was issued an apology and was to watch out for an updated bill... Well here it is January and we have yet been able to pay anything as EVERY bill received has had an error on it and every time I call its the same thing... "please hold I will talk to Melissa (which is the head of billing there apparently)" the employee comes back and apologizes and tells me to disregard the bill and they have re-billed and will get a new bill in the mail. Unbelievable, good thing I worked billing previously so I know what to look for but I feel horrible knowing others may not know there are mistakes on their bill and pay it. Moral of the story is their billing department is awful and check your statements and if you have a question CALL! read more

I just had my daughter via a c-section at Heart of Lancaster. My treatment by all the staff was excellent. All my concerns were addressed and all my questions were answered. The doctors and nurses were responsive and caring. Even the housekeeping and food service staff were friendly and empathetic. This review is for the pathology lab only. I have had to go there twice now and both times they opened a half hour after their scheduled opening time. People who are fasting or need to get to work depend on that 7:00am opening time as they advertise. In my case I am pregnant have already had to fast for 12 hrs and then another 3 after my first blood draw. The longer they make me wait to start that initial draw longer I have to fast. It is unacceptable to be so late opening with no apologies. read more

Due to a careless physican in the LGH emergency room, I hemorrhaged and was not diagnosed. I lay the entire day and was treated only for pain and refused hospital admission. My left leg was numb, nerves were damaged and I collapsed as I left the gurney. They put me in a car and sent me home. After unsuccessfullly trying to find help for the night it was suggested I go to Heart of Lancaster. They took one look at me,= and admitted me. I was there for 8 days and then went into health care at Landis Homes. Heart of Lancaster is 5 stars in my book. It was not the first time I was treated there and the doctors and staff are top flight. They truly cared about my misfortune and were true to their profession. I recently visited HOLRMC's ER when I was experiencing chest pain. It was the most horrific experiences of my life. I was taken in immediately and given an EKG but after that the story gets much worse. They left me lying there for 3 hrs. never telling me a thing about what was going on. I finally used the call bell to call a nurse, (which, by the way, was laying on the floor behind my bed). I had to get off the bed to get it myself. No one made sure I had the call button in hand in case my pains got worse or needed anything. When I called the nurse I asked how much longer I had to wait to go home and was told I wasn't going home but being admitted!!! No doctor came in to inform me of anything in those 3 hrs. Then I lay there for 3 more hrs. until they got me upstairs to a room. My room did not have a clock (I was told I would get one ASAP) but that never happened. I never got a pitcher of ice water which is supposed to be standard procedure. They even say so in their "welcoming" packet. I finally asked for water and got a styrofoam cup, no pitcher. I was never given any sock/slippers as is supposed to be standard procedure. I guess if I had fallen, it would have been my fault for not being careful. I was scheduled for a stress test @ 8am. I wasn't transported until almost 9am. The cardiac group was excellent but that is the only part of my stay that wasn't ridiculous. After my stress test, I returned to my room and no one came in to put me back on the monitors or oxygen that I had been on before. The nurse on duty happened to walk in and see me 1/2 hr. later and was admittedly shocked that I was there. Again I laid for hrs. waiting for test results to be read and discharged. Finally, at about 1pm someone came in and told me I was discharged and she would go get the paperwork started. I waited and waited and waited. At approx. 5pm a nurse came in with medication and I asked why I needed more medication when I was leaving. She said "who told you that you were leaving?" No one knew this person who visited me and told me I would be discharged. Everyone is running around trying to find any discharge papers and they couldn't find anything. If I had not had an IV in my arm, I would have walked out on my own. Finally, at 5:30pm after I was so worked up I wanted to tear someone apart they took my IV out and discharged me. They were the most incompetent group of nurses I have ever witnessed. I will NEVER return to Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center for any reason. read more

I had my daughter at the womens place back in 2010. I had high hopes that the delivery would go fairly well and that I would be in good hands. Well I had gestational diabetes and already had a chance that the baby would be on the big side. On Thursday March 11th my water broke. My husband came home to to rush me to the hospital. We get there and they say its not my water it is just cervical fluid. keep in mind that this didnt stop until I finally had my daugther. They sent me home and told me to keep them posted of my progress. The fluid kept going and going. I called them on Sat early in the morning only for them to tell me unless my contractions are 5 min apart not to bother coming in. I finally said enough is enough I am coming in and thats all there is to it. Once I was there on Saturday they had me walk around to get the labor really started. I asked to go into the jacuzzi tub to relieve my back pain. Finally they admitted me. When they tried to break my water they said oh it appears your water has already broken. By the time the early night rolled around they had determined there was an infection so they had to do a semi emergency c section. The c section went smooth I must say but as soon as they got my daughter out she was rushed to the nicu to get iv started for her blood infection. The mid wife who was on our shift later told us that the strips they used to test my amniotic fluid were old. This is not acceptable for a new facility or for any facility for that matter. The mid wife who was on the shift when I first came to the hospital was incredibly rude and didn't seem to care about the well being of her patients. Because of their lax in their jobs I wasn't able to see my daughter until the next afternoon and she was in the nicu for a whole week for something that could have been prevented. And to top it off the lactation concultants were worthless and extremely unhelpful. My overall birth plan was sabotoged and ignored. I would never recommend this hospital to anyone ever. read more

I spent a LOT of time there, as I was a patient there for a few weeks before I delivered, and was also there several times thereafter due to complications afterwards...and the staff there was great, no matter what area I was in (but especially in the NICU & Women's Place)...I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone in the area...5 stars!! read more

Run, run the other direction!!! Good things about this hospital: the one Er dr is AMAZING!!! Down to earth, compassionate, and thoughtful, not your typical "better than you" dr, and it's a simple lay out, and parking is NEVER an issue. (Maybe my following comments are the reason why there parking lots are empty!!!!) Ok, went in for chest pains, after 40 minutes I was hooked up to the monitors, the NURSE said "you have heart burn, and let me sit for another 30 minutes, the dr finally came in (super super guy) asked some quick questions and immediately ordered an EKG, and offered a pain management, then the nurse came back in (ugh) she started an iv, leaving all the trash on my bed, walked out of my room with a glove on and then after 2 or so minutes returned to my room w the same gloved hand, and continued w what she was doing, "you just have heart burn, you'll be discharged soon" for my EKG she didn't feel like shaving my chest so she just tried to tape the patches down, (ahh no) that didn't work, then she tried holding them down, (ah again no, it would pick up your heart tones) so she finally left and got a shaver, oh my goodness, she didn't cut any hair, she ripped it out, I still to this day don't think the EKG machine worked properly due to the prep or lack there off. After all this, I ended up upstairs for observation, I've was never told that I needed to order food by a certain time or I would not get any, so after a big fuss I finally got a cold sandwich, and water in a styrofoam cup, then finally the 3rd shift staff came on and I can't say anything bad about them, my nurse was nice, and helpful, and the aid was even better :) then the next day came, "you need a heart cath because you had a heart attack" ahh what? "We will be sending you to another hospital for that, now sign this paper!" Ahh what hospital, why do I need to go to a different hospital, and what I am signing? "We can't do the cath here, and it's the consent" I'm not signing anything until I know what I'm signing!!! Then it took 4 sticks and a bunch of "digging" to get two tubes of blood. Anyways I could go on and on about the "details" of how horrible of an experience I had, but why bother, oh just one more detail...a person walks into my room says "I was just here talkin to you about oxygen and I need to ask if you smoke, ever smoked and want info on stopping smoking" IVE NEVER SEEN THIS PERSON BEFORE, you didn't talk to me, and she never asked or checked my name or wrist band!!! This place is crazy!!!!!!!!!! I will say it again, the er doctor was wonderful, the (well some) of the night shift nurses were good, but other than that, I'll never ever go there again!!!!!! Oh and make sure you get "rules" in writing, I asked a question and first shift said one thing then night shift YELLED AT ME, when I did what 1st shift said it was okay! My head almost popped!! Sadly, there was no option for zero stars. Was sent there by my doctor for an "urgent" ultra sound. Appointment was scheduled by my doctors office, I heard them confirm time for same day appointment. Arrived at Heart of Lancaster and met one of the most condescending and rude reception people I've ever met. Was told that the appointment was set up for the next day. Had to argue with her and have them call my doctor to finally agree that it was this day. (why have an "urgent" appointment for next day???) Received ultra sound from nice, helpful person. Then waited more than 2 hours for it to be read before I was told that my doctors office would call me. Spent this time in pain laying on the floor of their waiting room. Then to make things even worse, I received my bill for these services and mailed the payment 4 days later. Then I received a collections call from them exactly 1 week after receiving the bill. ONE WEEK!!??? My suggestion is RUN AWAY!! Do not go here. If you are bleeding profusely and close to them, drive past them to go somewhere else that actually seems to appreciate their patients/customers. read more

Well I just started and so far I can say that I feel so unimportant when I go there. Like they are rushing me and wanting to leave so quick. I feel like they aren't even listening to me. I'm trying to tell them concerns I am having and they just make me feel so stupid and like I said it's like they are rushing me out. Like they monitored me and I was having a good amount contractions and the doctor sent me to there two hours is what she asked for and they were like no we will do it for one hour. The midwife is a total female dog. She was very rude. I hope I never run into her again. She should have checked me to see if I dialated even more while i had those contractions. She said she might. It's like they aren't cautions and don't do the best interest for the baby. It would have take a minute to check but of course she was in a rush to leave. I understand they have other patients but don't leave mine out cause your behind. I just really want to transfer to may grant now. But idk yet read more

I chose them for the birth of my third child because of the private room and keeping my baby with me because I was going to breastfeed. I wish I had gone anywhere else. If they really want to promote breast feeding maybe they should stop trying so hard to medicate the moms. I had to have a csection. Something I wanted to avoid and was very nervous about. The surgery staff was wonderful, but when I was passed off to the maternity ward the experience was horrific! I didn't want to take the pain medication they wanted me to because I felt narcotics while breast feeding are bad. That was all they offered I should say they pushed them on me, getting nasty when I refused. The nurses were generally rude and unhelpful. I was unable to get up because of the surgery and I was made to feel like I was bothering them anytime I needed anything. They were supposed to get me up and moving around 3 in the afternoon, but the nurse had something else to do, her words. And didn't get around to me until about 6. The equipment that was supposed to be preventing blood clots in my legs wasn't working which I mentioned more than once when I got feeling back in my legs before a nurse bothered to check and fix it. I had to call for help to get out of bed and into the bathroom, luckily I didn't wait for the nurse who showed up 15 minutes after answering my call since I would have had an accident if left to them. Given the way there was always a group of nurses chatting at the desk when someone came in. I can only assume they simply don't care about the mothers they are supposed to be there for. I tried addressing this with the administration but they refused to even call back. Maybe the attitude comes from the top? read more
