The UEC is an absolutely wonderful organization that is doing amazing work in the city of Milwaukee. Their passion for nature and protecting our city's natural beauty is amazing. But their programming is really where it's at! As a teacher, I can speak firsthand about the incredible job that the UEC is doing to teach young people to love their environment. The UEC has programming for all ages and their staff does a great job ensuring that the activities are age appropriate and tons of fun. They take groups on hikes, explore the river, learn about Wisconsin habitats, and much more. At the Menomonee Valley location, they have an animal room that guests can visit that includes snakes, turtles, and salamanders. They also have tons of outdoor equipment that you can rent, such as snow shoes, canoes, and even wearable gear like boots and gloves. They make outdoor adventure easy and accessible. My students especially love the secret slide they have inside the center. Always so fun! I can't say enough good things about my experiences with the UEC. If you work with kids, I highly recommend looking into a partnership. They even have their own buses that can come pick up your students! We are so fortunate to have the UEC here in Milwaukee and I highly recommend it to everyone!

It was intimidating walking in and seeing all the gorgeous works but everyone there was incredibly welcoming and that extended into the Hand Building I class that I took. The instructor, Lila, was engaging, exciting, and incredibly knowledgeable (and she brought in fresh bread one week!). The class was a touch more free-range and self-directed than I expected but in the end I think that was really for the best - it pushed me to dive into my own creativity (what little there is) and in the end I will be walking away with a handful of fun pieces. I absolutely intend to come back for more classes and potentially signing up for a membership. And well they were pretty bad. The instructor did not even teach me basics of maneuvering. He just took me directly on the road and kept asking me to raise my speed. I agree roads have speed requirements but I'm a beginner driver so do you really think I'd be comfortable driving my first lesson in traffic? The instructor kept yelling and cursing at me. I get it, he's passionate or aggressive as he calls it, but maybe taking that tone with a learner isn't the best. In my fifth lesson the instructor asked me to parallel park without any instructions. And when I tried he said well you sucked. No doy sir! But did you teach me? No! I felt horrible cause I'm all alone here but being professional is not a thing I saw with this school.
