I am def not in the best shape but have wanted to get back there and Ryan is great with working with all abilities but you get a great work out in! He works with times and different days as well! Since I'm a student, I'm constantly looking for the best deals for any and everything, including gyms/workout classes. I have yet to find a workout as satisfying or inexpensive as Dynamics boot camp classes. You can get a single class for $7.50 or a 10 class pack for $60. You can also share your classes with other people, so you could split a pack with someone, which not many places allow you to do! I have yet to leave this place without shaking a bit and already knowing I'll be very sore the next day. No matter how many people are in the class (I've been in classes with as many as 30 or as few as 6), it's always a good workout. I've also taken classes from a few of the different trainers and love them all. They each have a slightly different style, but you'll get a great total body workout no matter what. The last thing I love about these classes is that there is ZERO judgement from anyone - your fellow attendees or the trainers. The trainers always give options for modifications or show ways to make the move easier (or harder). Everyone is going through the class to the best of their ability and all classes are completed with clapping and high fives all around. The trainers even make sure to go around to everyone and give them a high five and say "good job!" Seriously check this place out if you can!!!

When I'm not rocking it out at Yelp's Fit Club I come here for my regular boot camp classes. I say…read more"boot camp" but really they are just group training classes at a variety of levels. Nobody yells at you and it isn't a super competitive environment either. Usually a class will include a variety of elements--kettlebells, dumbbells, body-weight moves like pushups or situps, cardio--and the instructors are great about giving variations for those that are recovering from an injury or perhaps aren't yet able to do a harder version. You'll generally get a demonstration of each movement, and extra help if you're not getting it right away. Perfect for beginners, with flexibility for regulars to get better over time. This is the perfect setup for me because I've finally come to the conclusion that I will never be motivated enough on my own to really workout hard. I get bored after five minutes on a treadmill. Jogging or riding my bike outside occasionally capture my attention, but that's really only good when the weather supports it and here in Maine that's like two months out of the year. Train Maine also offers personal training or private classes. They have two nice-sized rooms so that a personal training session can go on at the same time as larger group classes. Usually any given class isn't too crowded and the price is extremely reasonable. Plus they offer morning, mid-day and evening classes to meet a variety of needs. The only downside of this location is that there is no shower facility so you really can't workout here and then go to work (or back to work for mid-day classes). You WILL get sweaty, there's no getting around that.

Dynamics provides two different group classes. An introduction/ beginner class that is 45 minutes long and a regular class for an hour. They have a ton of different classes throughout the day to accommodate people working. The classes usually begin with a warm up and stretching and then they lead into a few different circuit workouts. Every time a go there is always a new work out or a it has been modified so you are not working out the same part of your body. You will do a lot of things using your own body weight which is a lot harder than it seems. The instructors are very nice and will motivate you and not in a condescending way. $7.50 for one class or 6 dollars a class (60 dollars) if you purchase the 10 class pass which is a steal, cash or check only, no cards taken. Bring a water bottle and change of shoes if you can. The first time walking threw the door is the hardest part. Embrace it! They want you to succeed there and so do you.

This is the same business as Dynamics Fitness in Portland, which I have already gave a 5-star…read morereview for, but I wanted to emphasize that it's really a great place for anyone looking for a challenging, dynamic workout! Every class is different and you won't be bored. The Scarborough location is a little bigger than the Portland location, and from my experience tends to be less crowded. I am a regular at the 6am Tuesday/Thursday class with trainer Jaime, who is kind, motivating, organized and really just all around great! Their website has their schedule with all of the boot camp classes. They rarely cancel unless there are extreme weather conditions. I have noticed that a lot of other gyms/trainers cancel boot camps last-minute so I really appreciate this about Dynamics. They have regular boot camps which last an hour, and basic boot camps which are 45 minutes. Boot camp goes like this: A 10 minute warm up with drills like butt-kicks, lateral squats, skips, and ending with bear-crawls. Dynamic stretch is next followed by resistance band-work to strengthen your butt and hips. Then comes the circuits which work out your whole body and keep your heart-rate elevated. Sometimes there is back and forth partner work, and sometimes stations with TRX, KetlleBells, Medicine Balls, Body Weight, Fitness Bands, etc... Examples include TRX Rows, Push ups, Tricep presses, medicine ball shuffles, kettle bell swings, sprinter sit ups, squat jumps, dead lifts... etc.. You can always modify any exercise. There is usually a finisher which includes something awful like Burpees :) After a quick stretch, you are out the door having accomplished an awesome work out! There is water for sale for $1 but I always bring a full water bottle and towel. You can go at your own pace and everyone in the class is kind and encouraging. For first timers, try the basic boot camp and work your way up. You won't be disappointed!

In this review I speak for the workshop that this establishment put in for runners. I look forward…read moreto checking out one of their regular classes during the work week. A chilly Saturday afternoon was perfect for stepping through this yoga studio's door. The lobby area was clean and well organized. Coat hooks and cubbies for belongings, curtained off changing stalls and benches for readying for practice, and items for sale for any level yogi. The woman running the workshop was friendly and remembered my name from the facebook event page. Oddly enough this was comforting to know that she wanted to put faces and names together. I had done all the paperwork and payment online so she invited me to settle in where I felt comfortable. I found my spot near a wall located near the exit (I don't like he feeling of being surrounded) and made myself comfortable. I listened to the many people that were chatting and milling about. All runners of course, of all levels. I have always found comfort and familiarity with this clan of people, being brought up in a family that all ran and a dad that did marathons. What a great way to keep connections open during the cold months as a runner. As people settled in and squished in, the yoga instructor introduced herself and encouraged questions during the two hour workshop. She stated it would not be very "zen" as this was a time to explore how to help each person with their running and stretching. Yoga began and it was pretty apparent by the grunts and questions that their were many non-yogis present, but all were and felt welcomed to share this experience. As a group we learned many stretches we didn't realize was important to running nor did I know they existed. I found the two hours to fly by due to how intriguing and new a lot of it was. I again will say I look forward to going to some of their regular classes and maybe another workshop. The woman running this workshop was very knowledgable about all that we did and would use many stretches as a time to educate us on the stretch and how it affects us. I only hesitate on the workshop due to the amount of people she let join this workshop. She capped it at 25 I believe and this room just was not meant for that many. Maybe 20? I did a few stretches half way due to having to squish up to the wall and having a lady's mat around 6 inches from mine. At one point when doing a floor stretch, her leg hovered over my shoulder while I was laying down. Too close for comfort I will say.

The studio is located near Bow Street Market in Freeport, with plenty of parking. There is an extensive schedule with plenty of class options to fit your needs, and the classes are clearly labelled with useful descriptions to help you choose the best fit for you. Terry the owner is an excellent instructor, and I always learn something new in her classes. Great queuing, plenty of modifications offered both up and down, and an all around great community vibe. She is also a runner and offers runner specific classes. Well worth the drive up from Portland, or down from the coast. Easily the best yoga studio I've found in Southern Maine.
