Who reviews a post office? I DO! Here is why…read more
I love getting mail. I love sending mail. I make hand made cards in my spare time, so I love mailing them for all different occasions: birthdays, thank you notes, sympathy, encouragement, Christmas, Easter, etc! I love wrapping packages in brown paper and mailing them out to good friends and family. I cried writing letters to one of my best friends while he served in the Marines stationed in Afghanistan for two tours, but was elated when he told me the letters made him smile when he felt most alone. Letters...the good old fashion kind... they can be magical, did you know? :)
Of course, I use the post office for serious business as well. I'm working on my dissertation remotely, and I mail each chapter draft to my PhD advisor in North Carolina approximately every two months. These drafts are always time sensitive for I'm always behind, but not one chapter draft has ever gotten lost and it has always arrived by noon on the day promised by the post office. I also sent important documents often to the history department and graduate school by mail, which are signature required. No problem. This post office ALWAYS delivers ON TIME! Which is amazing because when I lived in North Carolina for 5 years, I cannot tell you how SLOW the mail service there was. I think it took two weeks for my mom to receive a birthday card. If I send a card out to a friend of mine in NC now, it takes three days, boom! In fact, I mailed a package out to the middle of no where of North Carolina the Monday before Christmas and it arrived Friday, by noon! Talk about, signed, sealed, and delivered!! (breaks out in song!! haha!)
The staff at this post office is incredible. They are hysterical and I feel like I've been transported to a small town post office in the middle of the suburbs. Once day, I was wearing a T-Shirt in support of the wounded warrior project around veterans day and Bobby (or Bob?), gave me a pin to go along with it. I felt really touched! I think I even forgot I was wearing the T-shirt haha!
Staff will always get you the best deal for your money. Whether you want priority mail, something sent over night, with or without tracking, signed or not signed upon delivery, etc. I've made it known I'm a graduate student so they incredibly helpful in helping me decide the best way to mail out items. I have overnighted SEVERAL chapter drafts over the past year, and yes, they have gotten there on time!
I always think it is worthy to note that the mail carriers in this area are fantastic. My daily mail carrier works hard. Almost any order I place on amazon comes through the U.S. postal service, and you should see the LOAD of boxes in the back of her truck! My neighbor had to assist her in unloading a package that he had order the other day. It was huge. She needs a hand truck! I've seen her early in the morning and even at 8:30 at night during the Holiday season.
I also have a huge dog with a somewhat vicious bark. He's afraid of her "truck" and goes bananas when he see's her coming down the road. Yet, she leaves him a bone in the mail box every day!!! She must be immune to barking at this point going up down and neighborhood streets, but the fact she leaves a bone... well... I'm grateful, and so is JQ my puppy!
The only negative about this post office is it closes on 4:30 on weekdays and is only open until 1 on Saturday. Of course you can still drop off your bills, etc., for 5pm pick up, but you can't go in and buy stamps, etc. Given the fact that people work and have jobs, if they are going to close early, it would be nice if they were open all day Saturday. I'm not sure who dictates these hours, because they were the same when I lived in North Carolina. Then again, you can always use UPS for mailing packages, etc! ;)
I'm not sure how useful this is to yelpers outside my area, but I wanted to take the time to write this review especially during the Holiday season. The post office works hard, yet the staff and the mail carriers always have a smile on their faces. They are the embodiment of patience and customer service. They deserve to be acknowledged, in my humble opinion.
It is rare that I don't post a picture to go along with my review, but I think it is fitting that you read this review, as you would a letter. You know, the old fashioned way ;)
