Avoid at all cost. You would receive better and faster care, if you went to Cuba, or Mexico. There could be no lower bar to be set.

Upstate Community Hospital - I "passed" this huge kidney stone, 2 days AFTER ER "physicians" couldn't find anything on a CT scan with contrast , AND an ultrasound.

I went there ONLY because it was Memorial day weekend, and my primary care doctor was not available and told me I should go there. Once there, the receptionist had the personality of a rotten potato. I was suffering from SEVERE, acute pain in my lower abdomen. After an hour of waiting, I was finally brought inside to triage. The young nurse was SUPER nice and efficient. It was all downhill from there. The young attending physician was chipper, but TOTALLY clueless as I explained my symptoms. After drawing blood, taking a urin sample, and running an ultrasound and a CT scan, I waited 6 hours for them to tell me they had no clue what was wrong with me and sent me home, without so much as one aspirin. Two days of extreme agony later, I passed a huge 9mm X 7mm kidney stone, that looked like it was made out of broken glass. The ER physician was incompetent, the "reading" physician that looked at my CT scans and didn't see a huge kidney stone blocking my urethra wasn't even at the hospital, he was in MICHIGAN! Total incompetence on the part of the ER "physicians", to the point I called the head of the ER department and he ADMITTED that "mistakes were made" that night". Upstate doesn't care about your well being, they only care about making money. Six hours in that ER, with NOT even a clue of what might be wrong with me, resulted in an itemized invoice for just over $10,000.00! The CT scan alone was $4932.00, and one bag of IV solution cost $1600.00. THIS is why everyone's insurance premiums are so ridiculously high.

I threw it while I was in an argument. I am not making this up. I am not lying. After being sent to Hutchings, the social worker and therapist insisted there was something wrong with my brain. I'd tell them my issues with my parents and people around the town, and they would roll their eyes and look at ceiling. The television was on all night and when I'd tell my doctor about this the staff would insist I was hearing voices. Originally I was on the "south" side, where people of "ethnicity" were. The people there were very scary and they then sent me to the "west" side after complaining many times. The food was practically inedible, probably worse than the food you would see in a prison. On the West side the staff would call me names like "kike" and they would write reports saying what I was doing at every moment. I had told my doctor that my parents were abusive and when she would ask for examples would say that my dad had borderline personality disorder and that my mom had been stealing and wearing my underwear. There is many other examples but I will not say them in this review. One time as a prank I had set up a mannequin to scare people. It looked like a child with a blanket over him, completely white similar looking to a ghost, and I had created it out of the two hampers, some pillows and a pair of shoes I didn't use. My social worker told my mom that I should be kept in there longer since I was having hallucinations of a ghost. I also asked for a belt since my pants were getting baggy because I was rapidly losing weight from malnourishment. They never gave me a belt. I also asked for a book, band-aids, a purple sweater, and a CD player with jazz Cd's that my mother had given the staff for me, and they never let me have those things the whole time I was there even though they told my mother that they had given them to me. I also got an infection on my face, from a pillow that the staff gave me that reeked of urine. The first week I was not allowed to go outside, and they didn't even let anyone go outside. After a week of complaining, we were allowed to go to the "patio", which was the size of a very, very small backyard. For "group" the activity organizer made us do things like read children's books and paint using acrylic with overused brushes. I kept on asking if I they would let me have a discharge since I needed to get back into school before it started, and instead they made me go to "school" with a teacher who didn't know anything about the assignments I was given from my school. My mom had short visits with me and the staff would act completely different when she was there and she was not allowed to see where I slept because of a "policy". The temperature was constantly 62 degrees. I had said to my doctor once, "How's that insurance money working out for you?" And she turned a deep shade of red. After my discharge I was in worse shape then I was in originally, and I was just acting so they would let me out. On the day of discharge they made me fill out a form rating the hospital, and they said that it was required for when I would leave. My hands were shaking and I rated everything "good" to "excellent" because I was afraid they were going to keep me in there longer if I didn't fill it out they way they wanted. The whole time I was filling it out the doctor would stare me straight in the eyes. My mom would also stare at me the whole time I talked and would cake herself with makeup, and she would never wear makeup at her job or in real life. She was also wearing gold earrings that I had in my jewelry box, and when I got angry and said that my mom stole them from me she would say to the doctors that I was lying about it. There's much more to this story but I think you can get the picture from this review. I also think a guy from the staff was having sex with one of the patients.

I went to Crouse after a failed home both due to poor positioning of my baby. When we got there…read morethey were quick to get me up to L&D to get an epidural so my muscles could relax and baby could get in the right place. All the nurses I had were absolutely amazing. My one nurse I had through the whole process took care of me so well and stood up for what I wanted. I would give five stars just for the l&d nurses. However I had a bad experience with the doctor on the floor. I went into the hospital for one reason and one reason alone and that was to get help relaxing to get baby in the right place for a vaginal birth. Nothing else was wrong. The doctor felt the need to tell me and my support people that there was "no way the baby was coming out naturally without serious complications". And pushed rather hard for a c-section. And tried using MANY different tactics to scare me into it. Mind you this was after five hours of my nurse moving me around. And successfully getting baby in the right place. And I had finished dilating and was at a +2 when he was saying all this. This was my first baby at 23 and I seriously felt he was pushing for an unnecessary procedure for someone who was perfectly healthy and capable of having a vaginal birth... and probably felt he'd be able to scare me into it because I was young and looked like I didn't know anything. After I refused and told my nurse I wanted to try pushing and have the baby naturally she was so supportive and had my baby almost in the room before she called anyone back in. I was able to catch my baby. But I still felt very uncomfortable having that doctor back in the room. If I was able to do it again I would have asked him to leave and just had the OB and nurses with me. Because he had made me so uncomfortable and angry. Overall our experience was really good aside from that one doctor. It also felt to me that he was pushing his nurses to push tactics they didn't want to. Kind of like an "I know best because I'm old and experienced" yet he's not a woman and will never truly know that we as women know our bodies best and know when something is wrong or needs to change. (Woah that's why I was there because I knew when I was at home that something wasn't working. Shocker I know my body) I just didn't like at all how much he undermined every woman in the room just because he was the doctor.
