I went to Crouse after a failed home both due to poor positioning of my baby. When we got there they were quick to get me up to L&D to get an epidural so my muscles could relax and baby could get in the right place. All the nurses I had were absolutely amazing. My one nurse I had through the whole process took care of me so well and stood up for what I wanted. I would give five stars just for the l&d nurses. However I had a bad experience with the doctor on the floor. I went into the hospital for one reason and one reason alone and that was to get help relaxing to get baby in the right place for a vaginal birth. Nothing else was wrong. The doctor felt the need to tell me and my support people that there was "no way the baby was coming out naturally without serious complications". And pushed rather hard for a c-section. And tried using MANY different tactics to scare me into it. Mind you this was after five hours of my nurse moving me around. And successfully getting baby in the right place. And I had finished dilating and was at a +2 when he was saying all this. This was my first baby at 23 and I seriously felt he was pushing for an unnecessary procedure for someone who was perfectly healthy and capable of having a vaginal birth... and probably felt he'd be able to scare me into it because I was young and looked like I didn't know anything. After I refused and told my nurse I wanted to try pushing and have the baby naturally she was so supportive and had my baby almost in the room before she called anyone back in. I was able to catch my baby. But I still felt very uncomfortable having that doctor back in the room. If I was able to do it again I would have asked him to leave and just had the OB and nurses with me. Because he had made me so uncomfortable and angry. Overall our experience was really good aside from that one doctor. It also felt to me that he was pushing his nurses to push tactics they didn't want to. Kind of like an "I know best because I'm old and experienced" yet he's not a woman and will never truly know that we as women know our bodies best and know when something is wrong or needs to change. (Woah that's why I was there because I knew when I was at home that something wasn't working. Shocker I know my body) I just didn't like at all how much he undermined every woman in the room just because he was the doctor. read more

The worst hospital I have yet to experience. Two elderly sick parents one passed away from cancer. I have been to hospitals in Utica, Albany,Rochester Florida and by far this is the worst experience. My Mother has been there for one week and they have told her she had cancer and the next day she didn't. Told her she was going to have a procedure and the next day she's not having it. They come to a conclusion that she can't be helped and there is nothing they can do. She will be sent home. The very next day a doctor came in and said you can't leave until we fix the problem. Asked two nurses and a Dr. If they could put cream underneath her breast as there is a rash started. Completely ignored request both of them. It's as if they do not care at all and that is sad. I would recommend googling your illness and fixing it yourself before you go to this hospital. read more

My wife and I had a great experience with Crouse! We went to have our pregnancy induced for various reasons and we could not be happier. Firstly, huge shout out to Jenn on the 8th floor who was super cool and relatable! She worked like 17 hours that day and got us through labor start to finish! Very talented nurse and deserves major props! The rest of the team on the 8th floor was also great and incredibly friendly, by the time our baby was delivered we had about 15 people in the room helping out! Epidural guy was cool and so was the suction/stitches doc. Dr. Brown delivered our baby and we're very glad he was the one on call that night/morning! 7th floor gets major props too! Sandy is so nice! Everyone truly cared about our baby and Sandy even made sure to come back when the residents were done one night to say goodbye! If you're lucky enough to have Sandy you'll have a very great experience. Overall I think Crouse is awesome. Rooms are spacious on the 8th floor, and the 7th floor they try to give you a room by yourself (so the dads can sleep on the other bed). We also took a birthing class through Crouse and got a tour, it was nice to help calm ourselves, but the tour was worth the class on its own! Also, a tip, park your car in the garage but have someone come pick it up right away. Then have them drop it off the day you go home. You'll be given a free day parking pass so you'll save a lot of money right there! I can't compare Crouse to other hospitals for childbirth but I can say I'm glad we chose Crouse! If we ever had another baby we'd go back without question! read more

My husband was in this butcher shop for a stroke. I told them in the ER and in the ICU TWICE he was ultra sensitive to Lopressor. They gave it to him anyway. Tossed him around like a piece of meat on the bed while he was screaming in pain. When I yelled for them to stop I was threatened with being removed from the floor. I'm my husbands medical proxy, he was in no state of mind to give permission for testing. They did an ultra sound without my consent. When I took him home they signed us up with a homecare provider who was unable to provide the services the doctor ordered. The nurses are RUDE. The doctors incompident and the only thing they care about is money. This place should be closed down ASAP! I not only feared for my husbands safety, I feared for his life! read more

This was hands down the WORST emergency medical care that it has ever been my displeasure to witness. My brother collapsed on my living room floor and when an ambulance showed up to take him to the ER, I had no idea which hospital to ask for because I just moved to Syracuse a few months ago. The EMTs said Crouse was the closest so I acquiesced. At any given time there were at least 2 homeless people who had absolutely nothing wrong with them clogging up the ER. I heard the nurses saying that they just wanted a place to sleep but no one made them leave. We arrived at 8:45 pm and my brother was given fluids and nausea medicine in triage. Thank God we came before 11 pm because after that, THERE WAS NO ONE WHO COULD ADMINISTER ANY PAIN/ANTI NAUSEA MEDICINE IN THE ER! Only one nurse was staffing the whole ER, no doctor or PA! Just one person! A man sat next to me with a dislocated shoulder and had to wait for 6 HOURS until someone could finally give him anything for the pain. By this time, around 2:00 am, the homeless people in the ER started badgering my brother because he had an IV and the nurses wouldn't give them one. I thought I was going to have to fight one of them if he started messing with my brother's IV. The security staff did absolutely nothing to control these people. Finally at 3 am people from the ER started being called into the hospital to receive care. My brother and I went back and they misdiagnosed him with dehydration when he actually had a severe anxiety attack, so to this day (3 days later) he is struggling with severe anxiety. We have an appointment with a different doctor in another few days when finally I'm hoping my brother will get some relief. My brother and several other patients, some of whom were much worse, all waited between 6 and 8 hours to receive care. I could not believe I was in an American hospital. If you need immediate care, avoid crouse at all costs. read more

Worst patient care I've ever received. I'm actually writing this review from my gurney. I came in experiencing symptoms of what felt like a heart attack. To their credit they got me looked at quickly. It was downhill from there. The triage technician Rich was really short with me. I told him I felt nauseous to which he answered, "Don't throw up on me. Throw up in this." and handed me a bag. My nurse Jennifer was nice. I was supposed to be drinking a ton a water and she assured me she'd be back with water. She never returned. Nor did anyone else. 45 minutes and during that time I called the nurses station who said they'd bring it for me and they never did. Finally I got a hospital pharmacist to grab me a couple cups. Also, I needed to be unhooked from all the machinery to use the restroom so I called the nurses station and they said they'd send someone in. No one came. I decided to unhook myself from everything and astonishingly, despite hearing the beeping coming from the hall as soon as I unhooked, no one came to check and see what was going on. Maybe it's shift change time or something but that doesn't excuse not following through with a patient in distress. Seems like it may have just been a nasty anxiety attack and thank god. Had it been an actual heart attack who knows if I would have gotten care. read more

This hospital is the worst hospital I have ever been too. The patient care here is immensely disappointing. I came to this hospital with a laceration to my finger. It was bleeding tremendously at the time of arrival. Considering the fact that I am a patient worried about the amount of blood loss, none of the faculty here gave me a time frame of when I would be seen. I was not informed by any of the faculty here to drink fluids to help compensate for the blood loss. Instead, I was told by friend to do this. When the nurse saw me for vitals, and medical history, she did not clean my wound. She did a horrible job redressing my wound. The EMT did a better job than her. I waited three hours in the waiting room before being called in. When I was finally called in, the male nurse walked into the room and did not bother to check my wound like he stated he would. He looked at the gauge-covered wound, and walked out without asking any details. After waiting awhile in the room for a doctor, I finally asked the male nurse of a time frame of when I would be seen. He stated that he didn't know and that he would check.Instead of informing me or reassuring me of some kind of progress, he socialized with his fellow co-workers. Several times, I have seen him pass by room, hands in his pockets strolling around doing absolutely nothing. He was incredibly disrespectful, and was inefficient at this job. Like an idiot, I continued wait. I waited an hour in this room. Why bother to call a patient in, if no one will arrive anytime soon. After trying to get answers from this nurse, and his constant reply of "I don't know", a male nurse practitioner walked up to me to see me. There were no stitched that needed to be required. He cleaned to wound, and saw that it would have been fine with just streri-strips. I felt that if any of the nurses bothered to clean the wound, I wound have seen that I could deal without any help from of any of staff and would have gone home early. After reading the reviews on this hospital, I realized that it wasn't just me that felt this way of your patient care. This hospital has got the worst ratings. I would never recommend anyone to come here. I regret coming here, and I will make it known to many people that this is the worst hospital. The male nurse also told me that the average wait time for a patient in the ER is 6 hours. That would be understandable in a case where the hospital was busy. The hospital was not that busy. By the time I was called in I was practically the only one in the waiting room. I understand completely that I had a minor case, and the it doesn't go by first come, first serve. But during my wait time, someone could have at least bothered to make sure everything was alright. They could have apologized for the wait time or given me a progress of what was going on. None whatsoever. The nurse surely could have known that I would be definitely waiting more than an hr or 2 when she took my vitals. Honestly, there is nothing to justify the behavior and actions that happened here. To Crouse Hospital, DO SOMETHING About it, and make your hospital more efficient. Nurses are rude and are horrible at their jobs here. read more

This hospital saved my life and my daughter's life. I am so thankful for you and your awesome ER docs, surgeons, and L&D staff. I had a terrible gallbladder and was in a dire amount of pain. They evaluated me and found my gallbladder was in very bad shape. I had to have surgery to get it out of me ASAP. The surgeon was awesome, the doctors, everyone was just the best. I wish I stayed in NY and had my baby at this hospital. You never know what you got until its gone -- I guess. I really owe our lives to you guys at Crouse, and recommend you to everyone I know in the area who needs hospital care/attention. I will never forget the L&D nurse who held my hand for me down to surgery because my husband had to stay with our toddler. I cried and was so afraid but she comforted me like a sister. Miserable experience with a hip labral repair. My surgical time was 11 AM and they told me to report at 9 AM. Then they called me and told me to report at 8 AM and then they called me and said report at 7 AM. When I got to the surgical suite I said what's up how come I'm waiting till 11 AM for my surgery. They said I've been on the board for 11 AM all day so I sat there for two hours for nothing and got up at four in the morning for nothing and was exhausted. Then, when I got up to the room after the repair I already use the bedpan and I had to go to the bathroom. I told him I wanted to use the toilet this time because I didn't empty with the bedpan all the way. They said I had to be cleared by the physical therapist. The physical therapist came in and said you can get up and walk on your leg and go to the bathroom. I said I had a labral repair not a Debridement. I said my surgeon said if I had a repair I was supposed to use the walker with 50% weight-bearing. The physical therapist had not checked my medical records before she told me I could walk on my leg. The physical therapist directed me to reach my shoes put my shoes on and get out of bed and as my feet were hitting the floor I just said - I don't think this is right this is not what my surgeon told me I would be allowed to do. So the physical therapist went to go check the records someplace else and came back a freaking hour later. And said oh I checked 'somewhere else' and you do have to use a walker. Her name was Stephanie and she could've ruined my surgery. Then I wrote a letter to Crouse explaining what happened. I received a letter back that said I was trying to climb out of bed and the physical therapist was restraining me and keeping me in the bed so that I didn't hurt myself and sat with me for quite a while when really what happened was the physical therapist came in for three minutes the first time and left. I was the one who stopped myself from walking on my surgery. I had also gotten up at like four in the morning to make all of this happened and I was absolutely exhausted but I couldn't fall asleep because I had to go to the bathroom and they just wouldn't help you get to the bathroom. It took me days to get over just the exhaustion of the whole thing. I thought the Care was pathetic. read more

You never know what to expect at an ER especially when you're from out of town and it's a Fri night. I had to take my wife in for a severe migraine. I thought we may be there all night but that was not the case. She was in and out in under 3 hours. All the staff and docs were friendly, courteous, and professional. They gave her an IV with meds. The migraine broke soon after and she was back at the hotel sleeping in no time. Top notch service! read more

This is my 4th experience with crouse labor and delivery and once again i needed to make several complaints. I guess its my fault why there having so many patients and that's the reason why they can't be on time for me to be induced. I was actually here yesterday they started my process n sent me home beacuse i was only 35 weeks i wish my birthing experiences were different this should be one of the most happiest days of my life but all i can do is stress and cry ill be glad if Syracuse makes a new hospital with a nicu ive had very bad experience with this n i wouldnt wish this on anyone if i had more money time and help i would take more action on this matter i just hope someone understands my pain and they get to the bottom of that unit something isnt right.. i thought this would be going smoothly and on time but no telling when i will have my baby there communication skills are,poor and weak read more

This so called Dr John Spokek has no business dealing with human life!!!! Could careless how much pain you are in and that you'd prefer to be dead than to live in this much pain. Speaks badly of other Dr's that you personally know are good Dr's. Does not listen, gets up in the middle of you explaining and gives a loud HUFF then walks away. I had my son here in 2012, this hospital was absolutely horrible! When I first arrived I was 3 cm dilated, they kept me. Everything was going great until it was time to push. My sons head was misshapen because of the way he was laying... They made me push anyway, even though they all agreed that it would be best for everyone to have a C-Section. After 4 hours of pushing and he was finally here!! Yay! I never got to hold him or see his face, my husband never got to cut the umbilical cord and there were no medical issues to not allow this to happen! About 3 hours later a nurse came in to push on my stomach, everything routine, until she cathed me...I refused and she did it anyway!! This could have cause serious problems because I just had a vaginal birth and stitches! They really do not know what they are doing! If yelp would have let me give them 0 stars i would have. A few of my friends had horrible experiences here too! Please don't use this hospital for labor and delivery! St. Joes seems to be the place to go for babies in CNY! read more

On Saturday, March 28th, I was transported to Crouse Hospital by family members after have taken a fall at home resulting in a broken nose and bleeding. I was pleasantly surprised by the prompt and courteous service that I experienced. The intake was fast and easy. Within a very short time I was escorted by a kind and caring orderly to my CAT scan. He made sure I had the warmest blankets, and was friendly to boot. The doctor and nurses who cared for me were competent and efficient, even though there were some difficult situations going on at the same time. I have a very large family. Over the years I have had several occasions to visit the ER at Crouse and various places. This was by far my best experience. read more

I had my medical records sent to the gastroenterological department of Crouse Hospital on January 30th. I have called several times to check on the status because I have not yet been called for an appointment. It is March 4th and they are still telling me that my file is on the doctors desk and he will review it and then they will make an appointment. I am changing doctors because I moved and cannot drive 3 hours to see my old doctor. I have to have my old doctor refer me to a new doctor, so getting an appointment is not an easy process. I don't want to keep contacting my old doctor to refer me to new doctors all of the time. I have been having flare ups that are affecting my everyday life. I am fed up with waiting for them to call to set up an appointment at their convenience. I am in pain and need to be seen. read more

We are vacationing from MA and my daughter fell on her hip where she had surgery 6 weeks ago so we went to get x-rays to make sure all was well. From the moment we walked into the hospital from the moment we left everyone was so super nice!! Very friendly, very helpful and very caring!! A big shout out to Seth our x-Ray Technician!!!
