We happened into this lovely, hometown bar and grill for dinner one night and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. The inside is nothing special, but don't let that fool you. This was the worse restaurant experience of my life. I will never be back. An absolutely terrible Valentine's Day experience. I had emailed requesting a reservation between 6:30 and 7, and the restaurant replied "okay" without specifying which. When I arrived at 6:30, I had to wait at the door for 10 minutes before anyone helped me. Then we had to wait 15 more minutes for our booth, which was open and available the whole time. The table at which we were seated at was covered with crumbs. When I asked our server to have someone wipe the table she replied "it's just the finish on the table, it's sticky". I pointed out the crumbs and she angrily wiped the table. The food was okay, but not great. The main problem is the service. For the $60 PER PERSON fixed price Valentines meal, neither of our entrees came with a steak knife. When I asked for one, the bartender yelled at me to be patient. No brah, when I'm paying $60 a head, I will not wait for my steak to grow cold while your "server" mills about finding a knife. What "steakhouse" sends out meals without knives? Also, the collard greens sucked. They were wilted spinach. I've never seen such bad collards, which I absolutely loved. My dates "martini" came served in a flute glass and wasn't what she ordered. Plus we had to ask 3 times only to be told the bartender was "fittin to" make her drink. Then another waitress came over and asked our desert preferences. We wouldn't know, since you took our menus. We visited on Saturday, June 8 after getting in town late and they were closing in about 45 minutes. We'd traveled in from Pennsylvania and wanted a good, filling meal before heading home to go to bed. The waitress was helpful and friendly, especially for the time of night and considering we walked in so late. The food was delicious. Bathrooms were spotless. Restaurant was clean. We are from the area but for some reason have missed out on this gem. We will definitely return. I ordered Alfredo, son got corn dog and fries, and my husband got a philly cheese steak. This was the 2nd time eating here. Not sure what happened but we waited almost an hour to get our entrees. The food was almost room temperature, the prime rib tasted like it was days old and dry. On the weekend evenings they have live music. It can be a bit noisy at times but for lunch or dinner it's fast becoming my favorite near home! The 101 burgers are cooked to order with Mac and cheese and it's oh so good! They also have a very good ribeye steak (prime cut) shrimp and grits, lamb chops and pork chops! I'm giving four stars for location. If this was in Raleigh I probably wouldn't come here but in downtown Oxford it's a great place to meet for lunch or sit at the bar after riding and enjoy some good food. Not keen on the Eagles parafanella. Place would look much nicer without it. read more
