I stopped into Burger Barn on my way up to Virginia for Thanksgiving. It was easy to find just a short distance from Main St. in Warrenton. Look for the white-gray nondescript building just passed the NAPA Auto Parts. You park and order at the window then wait in the parking lot for your order to be called. I had a really hard time hearing the cashier who was taking my order and she seemed to get frustrated at me for that. Between the distance between us and the cars going by on Macon street, there is a healthy amount of background noise. I ordered a hot dog with chili, mustard, and slaw and a regular cheeseburger. Once I picked up my food, I drove up to Main street and sat in front of the courthouse to enjoy my food. Both the hot dog and the hamburger were good. The burger was a bit overdone for my liking but that's ok. The toppings were good but I wanted the patty to be more seasoned. The hot dog had good flavor and the cole slaw and chili went together well. There was a crowd when I arrived and when I left so I know this is a go-to spot in Warrenton so keep that in mind for your visit. read more

Serving food since the 1930's Burger Barn is right next to NAPA auto parts and has the look of a community staple. It's a little run down but the workers are kind and man, is the food good! We got cheeseburgers with bacon and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked, not too greasy, full of deep smoky flavor. They use American cheese which is not my favorite and the fries weren't very flavorful but they do come with salt and pepper in the bag. There's a gravel lot to park in but nowhere to sit and eat so come prepared for a car trunk picnic. read more

My annual go to spot when I'm traveling through North Carolina. On my most recent stop here I had been working a photography run on US-158 with another photographer and said "Hey, I know where we're going for lunch". We pulled into the gravel parking lot and walked up to the counter. I already knew what I wanted while my friend looked over the menu. We both ended up getting Bacon Cheeseburgers and Onion Rings with a soda. My burger was as good as it always is and my friend was duly impressed with his a well. I did notice the onion rings had changed since last year. Previously when I had them they were hand made. These appeared to have been frozen from a bad. They were still good. I love to slather my onion rings in mustard and that's exactly what I did. I'm looking forward to another visit at Burger Barn soon. Real soon, in fact right after everything is back to business as normal I'll be taking a trip down to Lewiston, NC. Guess what's on the way!!! read more

Warrenton is a town with very few restaurants, and even fewer good restaurants. I probably would not have come to the Burger Barn for a second time, except for the fact that there was no other place to eat and it was lunch time. I was even more disappointed this time than I was the first time I came here. The fries were obviously cooked in very old oil that had previously fried up some fish, there's nothing worse than fries that have a fishy aftertaste. Also the burger patty was severely overcooked. I would guess that they pre cook the burgers and then just heat them up as people order them, which would explain why it was a flavorless hunk of chewy meat. The only thing saving it was the tasty toppings, however I would never return to this Burger Barn again. I think I would rather go hungry and wait until I get to the next town over. read more

Solid hole in the wall/off the beaten path burger joint. I was passing through and looking for something quick so I turned to Yelp. As always the reviews and photos help steer me in the right direction. I ordered a burger and onion rings. This is paper bag, greasy, gut punching, old drive-in style delicious. You go to the window and order, then it arrives soon after. Now I'm not sure the meat quality - or if it is even pattied there. It didn't seem like it necessarily was, but either way it was good. If you are looking for an old 50's style menu, cheap, greasy meal - this will suit your craving. I'll definitely be down to go back when I'm in the area again. read more

The Burger Barn is a no frills, no seating, takeout stand that has been in Warrenton for as long as I can remember. The food here is always good, always predictable and very traditional. The chicken tenders are usually overcooked and the cheese fries have american cheese just stuck to crinkle cut fries. They don't pretend to be something their not and don't charge you more than the food is worth. The fried fish sandwich is pretty yummy but they don't remove the pin bones so don't be alarmed. My eight year old was craving a burger traveling home from SC. I refuse to eat at most burger chains so found this place with great reviews. It was a little ways from the interstate but was well with the detour. It's a walk up and order only type of place. There was a line when I got there which is always a good sign. We both got burgers and onion rings. My daughter ordered a cherry chocolate shake. She said it was the best burger she's had. I have literally been patronizing the Burger Barn since the early 60's when it was on Main Street across from the cleaners when I believed it was called Hardy's. The hotdogs were great at 25 cents "all the way". Today in 2018 and under new management, the same quality of food and superior customer service has not diminished. It is not a prevarication to state that I have traveled on numerous occasions throughout the years at a rate of 187 miles each way to dine on the tasteful cuisine of this business. The pork chop sandwiches are, as the cliche goes, "slap your mama good". The employees are exceptional demonstrating performance of duty that stands-out even in an industry known for exhibiting such outstanding traits. Particularly noteworthy, is the one black lady that takes the orders. Normally, I call-in my order and yet upon my arrival she knows who I am. She always greats me, as well as other patrons, with a warm friendly smile. The food is always prepared under the "Doctrine of Perfectionism". Personally, I have NEVER, repeat, NEVER, had to return a meal because it was not prepared properly. In short, one who patronizes this high quality restaurant is delivered superior tasting cuisine at more than a reasonable price coupled with SECOND TO NONE customer service.
