I want to start with I was not please with customer service when walking in they dismissed me and I did not greet like others who walk In. And when I was ready to check out I had to move around to get someone to notice me and ask me if I was checking out and when I did get check out the associate that assist me was short with me and was not really getting welcomed vibes and when she gave me my receipt I was expecting like a typical shopping bag but I guess they do not do that or at least told me they do not. And when she was done she just kind of walked off . Overall experience was not terrible but it wasn't the best customer service interaction and I feel like as a business that serves with intent to make people feel welcome and appreciate it to find nostalgic pieces or even fashion in general should feel equally welcome and it just felt divided there . And I actually only stopped by because I was near the area and I was recommended by this by vintage store nearby. The only good thing that I can say is that the clothes options were really good and the price throughout the store was good and the way there organized the store was nice where you had a variety to pick from and I was able to find a lounge beach top with a black top and cargo pants skirt a perfect outfit for the beach or lunch date and more. Again, I wouldn't recommend going to this establishment other than buying clothes, but I hope in the future that they work on their customer service skills and treats people equally read more

Waste of time and energy. I brought in cotton and linen clothing, denied. They chose the polyester crap over quality. They even took my plastic sneakers and gave back never worn, high quality leather booties. Don't bother. This place certainly deserves my first review of 2023! As much as I love "vintage and antique" ANYTHING I absolutely loathe shopping at thrift stores. (Weird right??) But let me tell y'all....this place gives boutique vibes all day long! When you first walk in, there's this unbelievably fresh scent that says "pssst, you can buy things from us, we're clean!" ....which is NOT the smell we're typically greeted with at those 'other' thrift stores. You'll immediately notice the well organized racks and the friendly staff. There's a vast array of popular brand names there also! I found a brand new Michael Kors coat for SIXTEEN DOLLARS! (May not be typical, but what a find, right??) The prices are super reasonable and they have the nerve to have sales on top of that! (Make sure you sign up to receive texts for upcoming sale events!) On Friday, August 29th, my son and I came into this store to sell some clothes he has grown out of. We never got greeted and the very first word out of the employees mouth was, "we don't take bags with clothes right now ". Not a hello, we'll be right with you, nothing. I asked, what kind of bag are they supposed to be in, and basically like a cloth bag or something like that. Umm hello, I'm not selling them the bag, I'm selling them the clothes. I shook my head and walked out. I will never go to their store to sell anything again and it's my first time there. **UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE** Stick to Plato's closet! Our time is valuable and VB Uptown Cheapskate does not seem to care. After visiting the Virginia Beach location to drop off items, I was immediately turned around as the employees told me "WE DO NOT ACCEPT DROP OFFS ON SUNDAYS." The Virginia Beach website DOES NOT specify any days that drop offs are not accepted. There were no signs visibly posted on the outside of the store either. I called later to double check the policy. I asked if there was somewhere on the Virginia Beach website that clarifies the policy. They told me: "I'm not really sure. Our website is run by corporate so we have no control." I brought in four items, two brand new with tags, current fashion, neatly, very good condition They literally offered pennies on the dollar. Dropped off my items waited an hour to receive an offer for all four items that seemed appropriate for one new item. They returned my items, wadded up, stuck in the basket I brought them in. In a haphazard manner. I will never bring items there to sell again and I probably won't ever shop there again. The selection was very poor. I'm not one for thrifting myself, however my daughter is. So we drove across town to a newer business that's actually a chain consignment store named Uptown Cheapskate. Located in Red Mill Commons off Upton and Nimmo in a strip. Parking is plentiful and the lot clear of debris. The sidewalk was also debris free. Signage is excellent! Upon entering I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the floor was. No smelly stale, or fowl odors were present. Everything was displayed as if new and actually some items are. Items were organized by style, size and gender. Only around 10% is men and no Chikdrens apparel. The intake area where customers bring in items was busy. There is a monitor that tracks the status of who is waiting. They seemed to be very fast and knowledgeable about what their business. It's obviously a delicate balance of taking in the correct amount consigned to not overwhelm inventory. My daughter found several items she liked that were a super bargain. So after trying them on in their clean dressing rooms she decided to purchase and we moved to checkout. Everything was friendly and they take all major credit cards. The inventory of mostly branded gently used clothing will have us coming back. For a single visit it was a good one. read more

Let me preface this review by stating that I shop at ALL of the buy, sell, trade stores in the area (Plato's, Clothes Mentor, and Style Encore) so I know how these kinds of stores run and make money. I enjoy buying gently used and selling stuff that I no longer use. I heard about Uptown Cheapskate on Instagram and was excited to check it out! My first visit was early August 2021. I had a bag of clothes to sell and I was going to shop as well. However, the wait to sell was extremely long. You could see piles on piles of bags that people had brought in. It was understandable for them to be backed up being newly opened. I checked in my items and they said it would probably be completed the next day. The store was very organized and the selection was pretty good for women. Unfortunately for men, the selection was poor. I picked a few things off the rack and went to the fitting rooms. They are beautiful! Another thing to point out was that the staff was extremely friendly! It was like they actually enjoyed their job, LOL! Anyways, I ended up checking out, signed up for their free reward program, and even got 15% for it being my birthday month. The cool thing about that is the 15% is for your ENTIRE birthday month, not just one time. I received a call the next day that my items had been gone through and that I could come in to see what they were interested in. I received a pretty good payout and they offer a little bit more money if you choose store credit instead of cash. After having a pretty good experience with my first visit both buying and selling I decided to come back to shop & sell. My second visit was mid August 2021 so I was hoping most of the kinks with selling would be worked out by now. I brought one bag of clothes/shoes to sell and they informed me that the items wouldn't be completed until nearly a week from the date I brought them in. I thought that was CRAZY! This tells me that they just don't have enough staff trained to sort through items and price them in their system. I still decided to sell to them since I had made the trip out to Red Mill area of Va Beach. I shopped around too because I couldn't help it! Both times I found some great brand name items and the prices were pretty good, on the same level as Plato's closet with most things but UC does price their lululemon pretty high in my opinion. Overall, I would give this location a 3.5/5 but round it up for their super friendly, down to earth employees. They are fun, stylish, and seem to truly enjoy their jobs. They make me want to keep coming back, I just hope their selling process improves so I don't have to wait a week for my items to be processed. read more

Gosh we luck out! Impressive selections, abundance of xs-xxxl selections, separated by color, by style of top and bottom, used but not used up like local Goodwills here in SE Virginia. Shoes, bags, scarf, belts, even NEW socks. I am so impressed with this store I can't imagine taking my teens anywhere else. Unlike Kohl's and the like, you are not limited to seasonal clothing. SERVICE was exceptional. I am in a wheelchair most days due to severe spinal and joint rheumatoid arthritis and the staff's kindness appreciated. However I noticed it was how they treated anyone who asked for help. The 3 ladies working on 10/29/23 were excellent representatives of customer service. we were there for probably over two hours and I never sensed frustration. A bonus is an Aveda Salon next door and a tailor two doors down for any alterations needed, but not open on Sundays. yes people under 5'5" basically alter all pants or have torture feet and back in heels. read more

I now have a problem! Uptown is only about 2 miles from where I work and I was blown away by them today. From service to selection! It was an amazing shopping experience! I got a really nice pair of rain boots for under $15. I wish I would have had more time too look bc I am sure I would have found even more amazing deal than what I did. I left with a pair of shoes, two tops, two pairs of shorts, and one pair of athletic pants for under $60. Everything looked to be in amazing shape and great condition! I've been into UC twice now. This store has an excellent selection of shoes, clothing and accessories. The employees are very friendly and seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs. The prices are high for my liking on a regular day, but they offer great sales (typically on weekends) that you can be made aware of via text message. My opinion of the price doesn't reflect the quality to price conversion in the current resale market. I'm a frugal shopper and would compare the prices of this store more to Plato's Closet than a standard thrift store like Goodwill. They have more than a few fitting rooms to try things on and have had a good ratio of staff to customers on the occasions I've been in. read more

It's a great store with generally fair prices (except shoes seem to be pretty high for used). You can get a lot for your money! I have found incredible finds including my much loved, retired Dr Martens Aimilita boots, some St John denim trousers for $10 (!!!), and a gorgeous Anthro dress for under $20.
