I moved out of town for a couple years, and recently moved back to Houston and made the mistake of seeing a salon closer to where I live and got the WORST cut. I made an appointment and realized when coming in that an appointment was not needed. While the place seems like a lesser salon like tgf or super cuts. I was quite impressed by the cut, I would return next time I need a trim. The stylist was also very sweet and talkative. read more

In regards to Covid-19 precautions this shop is great. They have hand sanitizer throughout and even a sink to wash your hands when you enter. Everyone is masked and stations are spread far apart. I've driven by this place since it was first opened. I hadn't been happy with my usual salon the last couple times there and decided to give Uptown Shears a try. First, I was almost 30 minutes late when I showed up and was ready to reschedule at the very least, but they were able to work me in. They took their time we me. Had a great, relaxing shampoo then Lizeth gave my grown out, dried out curly hair a cut that brought new life & bounce! The staff here is awesome, and they were so accommodating considering I showed up half an hour before they were about to close. I was looking for a haircut with layers to fix my split ends and dull style. Lizeth was a perfectionist and I couldn't be happier. I was loving this place and then boom. Something happened with the pricing. And it wasn't subtle. How can it be that a color, cut and blow dry price was 100.00 in August and when I returned for a color and blow dry it was 90. Hmmmmm. I'll need to post all the different pricing. Very confusing. I'm a working mom and never have/take time for myself. After Christmas I had one of those 'I have to have my hair cut today' days. The problem is that I HATE the stress of trying a new salon and risking that new haircut with a new stylist. Lucky for me this was a no stress event. At the end of it I would have happily booked a standing monthly appointment! Katie clearly is focused on her clients. She doesn't chop off 2" more than you'd asked. She doesn't gossip with other people the whole time. She respects an appointment time and doesn't keep you waiting! She actually listened to me and cut my hair the boring way I'd picked, then she made a great recommendation and we cut off more. I can't explain it. Katie just has an eye for great haircuts and will make it happen without stressing you out. BTW this is right at the corner of chimney rock and westheimer. Either come down chimney rock from 59 and turn right into the lot before the westheimer light or head down westheimer toward the galleria and turn into the lot immediately after the light at chimney rock. read more

This salon is totally kitschy with all the jewelry and the cheap bags they have in the front of the shop. It is kind of cluttered with everything they sell here, head mannequins included. Regarding the hair services: I wanted simple long layeres and I got short chopped layers which will take long time to grow back. They do not look bad, but not what I wanted. Same thing with the highlights, they look ok but they are orange, not honey blond as I wanted. read more

I went for a haircut at Uptown Shears back in June and I was really happy with my experience. Katy was friendly and professional. You can't beat her prices. I got a simple cut, with no blow dry for $24. I have been trying to grow out my hair for some time and it doesn't help that most hair dressers cut off INCHES when you go in for a trim. Katy did NOT do this. She gave me a great straight cut. Just about a 1/2 inch off the tips, as I requested. The only reason why I am giving 4 stars and not 5 is because every once in a while you get a cut that leaves you feeling like a superstar. This wasn't one of those cuts, but I can't blame Katy. I asked her for something basic and what I loved most was that she listened. Very happy customer. Would go back and would recommend to friends. read more

Lizeth Did really good work on my husband and I. My husband needed a cut as well as a beard trim. She took her time and was very precise and showed she cared and loved what she does. She did a small upper back/neck rub which was nice. The lines came out great on all the work done. I had eyebrows that needed to be waxed but she offered threading. Since i have never done it I opted for it. It was precise and she took he time once again. Another small neck/upper back rub which was definitely needed as my head was cocked back. But all around a great job! The cost was only $40 ($10 was threading). Thought it would be more. We tipped big! Go see Lizeth. Her front desk gal (didn't get name) was very sweet too. read more

I live in the galleria area and having lost all hope in the salons nearby ( No, i' am not going to Toni n Guy for a 80$ haircut ! ) I went to Uptown Shears. Katie, is a really good stylist. She listened to what I wanted and gave me a perfect haircut. It was kinda hot outside that day, so she even offered me a bottle of water. Such considerate behavior ! I have been to Uptown Shears twice in the past year. The first time was a great experience with Chrissy. She did the exact cut I wanted and didn't waste time. Unfortunately, it seems that management has changed hands and there are all new hairdressers now. I thought I would give them a try though. The haircut was just ok. I told the dresser that I like angles and layers throughout. Perhaps I wasn't specific enough since she completely neglected the front layers. Then she proceeded to blowdry my hair for about 30 minutes. It takes 10 at home. After that mediocre cutting experience, I proceeded to the register. The girl probably didn't have much experience with the register and I found out the hard way. She charged my credit card twice. The manager helped to assuage the situation by giving me a cash refund on the spot. It took an extra 25 minutes to get everything straightened out. Needless to say, I didn't leave a tip. I don't think I will be returning anytime soon. read more

I purchased a Groupon for this place and first impression was I wasn't sure if it was a full hairdressing salon on first entering (lots of handbags and jewelry for sale). Ended up getting a nice colour but was disappointed with the cut, not what I asked for, but may get better as it grows out a bit?!. From what I can tell there is only one licensed hair stylist at here. This is fine because it's a small boutique, but made it difficult when there were two people booked for her. However, the stylist did an excellent job cutting my hair (one of the best cuts I've had in years, listened to everything I asked for) so I left the salon a very, very happy customer even though there was a bit of waiting time. read more

Beautiful salon that's the only great thing. I've had mosread an ad post on CL page. When I arrive I was greeted by a young lady. But I guess since I waa not dressed high end the customer service I got was terrible. It took 20 mins for someone to apprach me regarding the service I seeked. When I told the hair dresser I wanted color she made a face regarding my hair said since its already black the color won't show my hair is naturally black. Ten minutes later I got asked again what I was seeking. I could tell they didn't want me there. When I told again she said I misread no biggie. But she dodnt bother to reschedule me.
