Ashley was very sweet and she really listened to where I needed her to focus and her technique left me feeling good. I visited this spa after receiving a spa & wellness gift card for nurses week. There were numerous spas to chose from with this gift card but I chose this spa specifically because of the Yelp reviews and location. It was easy to schedule an appointment online! The spa did not disappoint! Located off Richmond in the Montrose area, it was easy to find and they have a small parking lot adjacent to the building. Check in the was easy and they offer water and wine. Ebony was my esthetician and she was friendly, gentle, knowledgeable, and professional. I don't think I've ever fallen asleep during a facial but I did in this one, it was so relaxing. After, my skin looked and felt great! As I'm writing this review, I still see and feel the effects of this facial. Ebony gave me suggestions on products to use but there was no pressure to buy (I love that)! This was my first time at the Montrose location! & the receptionist greeted me with water & wine! I got the Clear Skin Facial. Christina provided such a great hospitality and guidance. Rihanna did a wonderful job at the facial. The pressure was really good and the technique she used was spot on. All the cleansing made my skin felt really clean before starting the extractions. They got quite a lot of gunk out during that portion. The massage of the neck and shoulders was also relaxing. And the best part was the cooling mask facial afterwards. Y'all! For a first timer getting the Brazilian wax, it doesn't get any better than this! I had Cynthia as my therapist and she was amazing! Really took her time to calm me since I was feeling so nervous! It really was a total experience as I've never done a professional wax on my hoo-haa HAHAHA! Let me tell you? She was really gentle, and applied the heated wax in smaller areas so that it would sting less. She reassured me and then made sure I didn't want to go too far, so she'd check in and see my pain management level...she was friendly and so sweet and said I handled it like a pro! FYI: if you schedule your appointment in the evening and the sun has gone down and it's also your first time going to the Richmond ave/Montrose location, beware that it is very difficult to see the storefront sign. It's covered by bushes and plants and you really can't see it in the dark. There's also very little lighting, and the entrance to the parking lot is very NARROW! steep and narrow so be careful when you're turning in. If I could make a plea and recommendation, please add more lighting in the area, as it felt very unsafe walking from the parking lot to the spa... and light up your store front sign so people can see it from the street. If you're interested in getting a facial for the first time or even just switching spas I recommend Bare Necessities. Yesterday I had my first facial EVER and I can't believe I've gone this long without ever pampering myself in this way. I booked a clear skin facial with Ebony and she was amazing. She gave me a skin analysis before starting our session and customized my products. All of the products are from their natural state which makes for a really soothing facial and enhances the aromatherapy during the process. She worked magic with the extractions and that eye cream, wow. I left already being able to tell a difference in the texture of my skin. Next day was even better, my forehead is so smooth I can't wait for my next session which I've already booked. I had such a great experience I even booked a wax with Ebony for the future and plan to retire my European Wax Center membership. Aside from my actual facial, upon entrance they offer wine or water which is nice perk. They have heated beds with blankets for that additional relaxation during the facial. I'd come to Bare Necessities for spray tans, facials, and massages in the past (all lovely), but never a wax. So, I did my research and saw several positive reviews for Bare Necessities, especially Helen...and she didn't disappoint! She uses a combination of soft and hard wax (love) and was very thoughtful about applying pressure after pulling the wax to lessen the pain. She was also super easy to talk to and put me at ease instantly. BN is just a great local business I feel good supporting. The customer service is always warm and I've never had an issue with an appointment or payment. Parking is pretty straightforward (always plenty of spots) and prices are fair. The first time I went I liked my upper lip and underarm wax. My beautician was efficient and considerate and even used tweezers to make it extra clean which I always feel is a sign of a good beautician. My second time was with a different person, I did the same plus a bikini wax. Hairs remained on my upper lip and underarm which I could only see after because she didn't provide a mirror during. But worse was the bikini wax which for some reason turned into a Brazilian. She didn't communicate well. There were several pulls that weren't going anywhere except practically making me jump off the table. She put pressure to the point where it hurt and one of the waxes she used was too hot. After the wax I was upset to see it all gone (except for some random strands of hair) and felt worse when I found that putting my pants back on and walking hurt. I've had waxes before and they've never felt like this. I was surprised I still got charged (-25%) for the bikini considering that's not what I requested nor what I like. It's like going to a salon for a trim and they give you bad bangs. Then you have to show up to an event and it's embarrassing. It would've been nice if she had been straight up about what issue she was having and given me the option of waxing more off or just to have a wonky bikini wax. She seemed to act like she was hoping it wouldn't be an issue. I would expect a place with 5 stars to have 5 star beauticians. I can't really trust going back even if just to stave off the awkwardness of seeing that beautician again. Careful who you choose. read more

I wasn't really impressed. My esthetician was super sweet and friendly. I also enjoyed the Emminence products that were used for my facial. The base cost of a facial is $100. I normally pay $60 for a facial at another well known establishment and love the results. After tipping I walked out paying $120, which was alot for a regular facial. This establishment doesn't really do anything different that sets them apart from the competition. So I will be returning to my usual facial massage spa, bec it is more cost effective. read more

I have always suffered from severe acne that left horrible scarring all over my face with a lot of hyperpigmentation, I had tried everything, I went to dermatologists, I got consultations for laser treatment and everyone told me I will have to live with that scarring unless I was willing to spend a small fortune on multiple sessions of laser treatment that would only make it fade away but will still be visible, I had basically lost hope and thought there was no point in spending all that money. being a guy makes this harder since I don't really use a lot of products, just face wash because growing up no one invested the time to show me what products to use. this is until I recently got to know Helen and she offered to help me with my acne and scarring, I had a total of 2 facials done in Bare necessities and I gotta say I'm impressed my face has never looked that good, not only that but Helen suggested a bunch of different products I should be using, she provided the names, when I should use them and how often with instructions on what to expect exactly I gotta say I was very shy about going to a spa being a man and all but the girls at Bare Necessities made it easy and less awkward. Okay Yelpers I did another thing today. Thanks to Yelp I found this Gem. I got a Brazilian Wax for the first time and I loved every "strip that was ripped" of it. I will explain that further later. But let's talk about Bare Necessities. This cute little spot is nestled in Montrose in a cute little remodeled home turned business. When you enter it is very clean and inviting. It is very Anti-COVID and virus friendly. The check in process is very simple with the completion of two forms that ask general health questions. Then the esthetician comes and greets you to take you to a private room. The place is very small and intimate so it's not much walking if that is a hindrance. The private room is very comfy and cozy. There is nice spa music playing and it is very tranquil. I had the pleasure of having Helen. She was so nice and patient. She explained the entire process and made me feel very comfortable. She had small conversation with me to keep me distracted and that was a great tactic because I barely noticed when she "ripped". Everything was clean, all the tools and she definitely wore gloves and a double mask. When I got off the bed she tore the paper off and sterilized everything while I was still in the room. Overall the experience was great! I did think there prices were a little high at $70, especially when I found other places that were $50. But they do offer a membership that will bring the price down to $55 which is good for 3 months. But if you are considering a wax, and it's your first time like mines. Get some good numbing cream off Amazon and apply it an hour or 2 hour before to the area and cover with Saran Wrap. Then wipe with baby wipes right before they began. She was very knowledgeable and made the whole experience great. I consistently have a positive experience here. April is my fave and I always schedule with her. She uses the wax that pulls off without paper strips. I'm not sure if that's called "hard" wax, but it is way more comfortable than the strips. She's very personable and that helps make a somewhat intrusive Brazilian wax seem a bit less embarrassing. Ok, listen... these reviews are not telling you stories! I usually get my wax done at another location that doesn't seem to keep their staff and when they leave they don't tell you where they went, but I digress... I tried this place on a whim because I was looking at yelp and the reviews were great! They are not lying! From the time I called to make an appt until the payment, everyone was amazing. The business etiquette of this place is spot on! Let me start by saying this is only a review for the Brazilian wax that I had done by Emma! She was great! Pleasant, well versed in convo, and most importantly professional and knew exactly what she was doing! By far the best wax session I've had in my life! She used soft and hard wax and when I tell you it was the least painful I've ever experienced, I'm not kidding!!! No one likes to get waxed, let's be serious, but I barely flinched and the best part was that I walked out of there with no sweat marks on my back from the normal stress and adrenaline pump you get while you're basically getting hair stripped from your body (or is that just me?). Maybe the complimentary wine helped :) but I've already booked my 4 week appt before leaving the building and I'm not sorry to say goodbye to my old wax fling! I love that they use gloves and actually give you a few minutes to yourself to undress and a towel to cover up right before they come in instead of just laying there with your goodies out! Parking is ample and I probably waited about 10 mins total from arrival to appt time. I did have to fill out a new client form so if you're new, I would arrive at least 10 mins early to be thoughtful of your aesthetician's time. I'm truly disappointed because I thought I found my go to wax place but had a really bad experience during my recent visit. I arrived to my appointment within the five minute grace period they give but was denied service for 'being late'. Apparently they don't allow a five minute grace period for certain services such as eyebrow waxes (a lower cost service) which is not stated anywhere on their website. The waxer, Ebony, refused to do my service because she had another appointment in 10 minutes. This place obviously values money over their customers by denying my service for another client with a more expensive service booked. They also lack proper time management to not allow enough time in between appointments to abide by their own 5 minute grace period. The women at the front desk even agreed with me that I was right about this policy not being listed on their website and that it should be. 5 minutes is already an extremely small grace period. So to deny service when the customer falls within that grace period is ridiculous. & to say that smaller services don't have a grace period goes to show what matters most to them. Money. I don't think I can support this business anymore when they clearly have shown that they do not value their customers, do not follow their own policies, and will waste your time with no regrets. read more

Bare Necessities Spa is cozy and inviting. I have been for treatments before but I went in a few weeks ago to inquire about some skincare products and Tracy gave me a ton of information and samples. I used the samples for a week (yes, they lasted that long!) and returned to purchase almost half of the products I'd tried because I was so impressed. My skin ranges from bone dry to normal with the occasional oily t-zone day but even in summertime it is most often dry. I also have extremely sensitive skin and have had issues with eczema on my eyes this past year. Tracy's suggestions helped me find Eminence products that leave my skin clean and refreshed without any dryness (!) and I have been once again able to apply serums and moisturizers without reactions. I am feeling good about my skin for the first time in over 6 months. I look forward to enhancing my skincare routine with masques and more as time goes on!
